new drama over 4 nights

we either love or hate ch5 dramas 😂😂

A newlywed couple living in the Melbourne suburbs have their lives shattered by tragedy. Alison Weston (Ackley Bridge star Jo Joyner) is left devastated when her new husband Sean (Neighbours star Peter O’Brien) goes out surfing one morning and fails to return home. After an extensive search of the coast near their home, the police conclude that Sean drowned in a dangerous riptide - but a grieving Alison, increasingly aware of the tensions among her family and close friends, begins to suspect that something else happened to him...

"What I think is unusual about this thriller is that you don’t spend all four episodes wondering who did what," explains Jo Joyner. "You spend a good amount of time being suspicious of everybody, but at a certain point the audience hold all the cards, and I think that has its own thrill. They will know who they shouldn’t trust, and then that becomes even more suspense-filled!"

Is that beige coat she wears a ' coatigan ' ?

PenelopeStrawberry1 · 28/12/2022 21:55

The ex wife was in Neighbours in the very early days, playing Zoe Davis

I watched it,the daughter is supposed to be 16! The actress looks to be around 30!

I also thought she didn’t look like a teen, googled and she’s 28!

duc748 · 28/12/2022 22:12

I'm enjoying this, but I agree about the music (awful!), and the dodgy hairstyle! 😀

duc748 · 28/12/2022 22:15

I remember Jo Joyner in No Angels.

<sighs >

RedRiverShore2 · 28/12/2022 22:19

The dodgy neighbour looked much better in A place to call home and Outlander, that must be a wig.

I recognised her straight away from Neighbours - definitely showing my age!!!

Few comments on Twitter is that this was filmed on same set as Neighbours and reused some of the sets. I didn’t watch at towards the end (except the final week) so haven’t spotted anything. Any eagle eyed viewers out there spotted anything from Ramsey Street?

Ah, of course, Lord John Grey! Why didn't I recognise him?

EachandEveryone · 28/12/2022 23:34

well, I have no clue. Whats her ex husband been in?

I know him as PC Gary Best from The Bill. But seen he was in Shameless (never watched it) and according to my mum he is currently in Coronation Street

I watched it and it took a bit of time to work out who was who. I couldn't see why the daughter had an Australian accent yet her mum didn't. Who was Ethan and was Jesse another brother or a boyfriend. And the timelines were not obvious but I assume that Alison and her husband moved to Oz maybe six or seven years ago, (Their DD - now 16 - would have picked up an Oz accent from having lived there since 10 but neither Alison nor (ex)DH would have lost theirs).
She must have left because DH was abusive and got together with Sean - married two years ago? Ethan left home but very angry and worried about not getting his father's money. (I think)

A bit slow in places and I didn't like the music but it's promising.

I've a friend who moved to Oz. Both children have Australian accents but she doesn't!

I am enjoying it. The neighbour must be dodgy, just don't know why 🤣

lazymum99 · 29/12/2022 09:14

Watched first episode last night. Bit slow and music really annoying. Unfortunately watched Mayflies afterwards and that really showed up how mediocre Riptide is.
I will complain and continue to watch though as usual!

AutumnCrow · 29/12/2022 09:20

The second episode was better but it’s still very plodding. I’m not warming to Alison and her big cardies and cardie shirts at all.

Rosecoffeecup · 29/12/2022 09:56

The acting is atrocious but I feel compelled to watch this to the end

duc748 · 29/12/2022 11:16

I hate it when they put spoilers for the next ep at the end; the Koreans are fond of doing that too. Anyway judging from those spoilers, it's all cut and dried that Ethan is the baddie and useless ex is just a schmuck, but there's two more eps to go, so surely there has to be a twist?

cobblers123 · 29/12/2022 11:30

I've watched both episodes and been totally underwhelmed by the series so far. I did think the neighbour was a big red flag, far too good to be true, thought it was a bit obvious.

The stepson is horrible, hope something awful happens to him.

I usually find Ch5 dramas are mediocre at best. I maaayy carry on with it but might go back to watching Man Down on Boxsets as I'm only on series 3.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2022 12:39

Seen 2

So the neighbour is def dodgy

Prob doesn't even have a dead wife

Shame she isn't preg via ivf

But ex hubby also dodgy esp if hanging about with his daughters bf who didn't know he was her dad

OP posts:
duc748 · 29/12/2022 12:48

And daughter's bf is also dodgy. But not as dodgy as digging up and moving a corpse! Obv we're meant to assume that person moving the body is the same person as who buried it in the first place. But is that true?

Wingedharpy · 29/12/2022 14:55

Well, @duc748 , assuming the neighbour didn't discover the body while building sandcastles on the beach - at night - if you stumbled across a dead body, surely your first reaction would be "I must immediately phone the police" and not " I must dig this up and put it in my car boot" wouldn't it?
And, unless you were involved in some way with the burial, how would you know where to dig to retrieve and move it?

Having said that, this is a chanel 5 drama - anything's possible!

duc748 · 29/12/2022 15:00

Well, quite. But I was just wondering if there's some misdirection to provide a twist.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2022 15:42

Did the ex dh bribe his daughters bf to kill her step dad

or was it the neighbour as saw him in his hoodie

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2022 15:42

And for such huge windows - shame no curtains

wanted to see Pauline behind them 😂😂😂

My guess is, they're up to no good, but not murder.
