Who will be victorious?

For me, one of the show's highlights was when Tom lost his rag (I forget why) and shouted out that Alex was his girlfriend. The look on her face!!! And no surprise they were both voted off sharpish because of the lies.

Good idea from the production team to include a couple, I'm assuming with the aim of seeing whether that couple will work together or betray each other. Shame that Tom blew the whole idea apart with his little tantrum.

I thought Tom’s outburst was probably scripted, as in he was told by the producers to reveal the relationship although Alex didn’t know he was going to so her reaction was genuine. I wonder if Tom and Alex were playing as semi-stooges/disrupters rather than gunning for the win. Alex was the one who came up the theory that Alyssa was a traitor (because she was playing it like Alex would). Again, that could have been a planted line to give the faithfuls a clue as they’d been so bad at identifying traitors.

Agree that it could do with some format tweaks including something to put the traitors at more risk of exposure.

John is also an actor apparently and I wonder if he’d had stayed in longer that would have been revealed and that’s why he over reacted to Aaron’s questioning.

nc824 · 03/01/2023 15:35

@GhostOrchid yes have to admit there were a few things that felt scripted such as Tom announcing the relationship and Maddy announcing she was an actress at breakfast, I didn't understand why they did that and weird times to do it.

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/01/2023 15:40

For me the most surreal moment of the whole series was when they were a final 6 and they all agreed that the 3rd traitor had to be a man ... and then they all voted for a woman Confused, except for Maddy I don't think? can't remember - but she probably voted for Will.

But just EH??

GhostOrchid · 03/01/2023 15:45

That was weird. But both Wilf and Kieran reacted very aggressively to being named, which made Hannah and Meryl back off. Female socialisation in action.

That was frustrating. I think tensions were running high at that round table and they voted for personal reasons, because Maddy was pissing them off...she and Meryl never got on. It was foolish and I think they did realise that later.

Lentilweaver · 03/01/2023 18:05

The last 6 weren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. Except for Will and Kieran of course. So of course they would forget what they had discussed.

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/01/2023 20:44

Yes! And then the three bluntest knives in the drawer, in the whole series infact, won the jeffing money! Absolute travesty.

I don't know...isn't it proof that it's possible to be too clever? As soon as Fay revealed she was keeping track of how people were voting, I knew she was getting whacked. And Amos was too popular, and Andrea.

WoolyMammoth55 · 03/01/2023 22:22

@ReneBumsWombats "It was foolish and I think they did realise that later."

I was actually very surprised that the faithfuls seemed (at least with the edit we saw) to hardly EVER express any regret or remorse for voting off other 'innocent' faithfuls by mistake...

There was a fair amount of "the traitors are winning, we really have to get one tonight" type chat but very minimal "poor Maddy, poor Ivan, we really let them down by not believing them" expressions of sympathy or contrition.

It was interesting! I think I'd feel really guilty if I had made that sort of voting mistake but the faithfuls never seemed to say any of that (Amanda and Alyssa DID talk about their guilt and that's why I preferred them both over Wilf who seemed really psycho with the endless back-stabbing!!)

PriamFarrl · 03/01/2023 22:45

I think there was a huge difference between Wilf accusing Kieron at the round table, where Wilf was perceived as a regular player, and Kieron basically telling them that Wilf was a traitor after they know that Kieron is a traitor and knows for a fact.

PriamFarrl · 03/01/2023 23:00

I’ve only just finished watching. What made me laugh was them all asking ‘are you a faithful?’ all the time. Like a traitor would say no.
Looking back it’s clear that the sharper people were voted out early.
I liked Amanda and I loved how she played it. It’s such a shame she was voted out.

I think they realised at least in the early rounds when bonds weren't as solid that there's no real victory in keeping lots of other faithfuls around. Faithfuls vs traitors is just a conceit, ultimately it's still a survival game of players vs players. The fewer the faithfuls, the more chance another faithful has of getting to the end.

They always seemed more distraught at the breakfasts - murdered contestants were more liked/influential, eg Traitors always saying such-and-such will never be banished/we'll have to murder them. Whereas banishment is the part of the game where even the faithfuls have the chance to stick the knife into the ones who are a bit different (or more intimidatingly clever and therefore more of a threat, both as a potential traitor and of taking up a space in the final).

It's because people like to think they can tell when someone is lying to them.

lljkk · 04/01/2023 13:55

I thought the faithfuls were very upset when they voted other faithfuls off.

PriamFarrl · 04/01/2023 17:11

I wonder if Wilf had stayed in if he would have chosen to split the money 4 ways.

Peasepuddingbloodycold · 04/01/2023 18:17

I don’t!

He couldn’t have - if a traitor was in the final group then they had to keep it all to themselves

Surely they can't dictate what they do with the money after the show? It's theirs!

oh I see you mean pay it out your own pocket?

Can’t imagine Wilf’s wife would be OK with that 😂😂

DillDanding · 04/01/2023 19:31

Dh and I just binged it all after watching only a bit of the first episode when it was first released.

We loved it! It was so entertaining.

I don’t believe for a minute it was entirely legit - lots of scenarios around the voting were stage-managed, and there was definitely plot manipulation by the directors.

So whilst we spent a lot of time picking holes in it, it was still daft, enthralling fun. Loved all of Claudia’s clothes, although not sure why she was in full winter garb when it was clearly high summer!

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 04/01/2023 19:33

@DillDanding the wind chill in the Highlands is something else even in hot weather!

DillDanding · 04/01/2023 19:44

True! Or maybe it was midge avoidance tactics.

idiotfacelicker · 04/01/2023 20:04

I went in July and had to buy gloves there!

Penguinsaregreat · 04/01/2023 21:48

It reminds me of The Weakest Link where contestants would vote off intelligent players in the hope that if they got through to the final they would be up against a less intelligent opponent.
If they do another series and any mumsnetters get through, we will all have to get together and think of tips for survival.

Heck no. He had no trouble betraying others, he'd have kept the lot.
