Hello all GPTD fans the next series has been announced and will start on 8th January at 7:45. It’s a Sunday night and it’s on Channel 4 as usual.

Festive Pottery Throw Down is on Christmas Day too. James Fleet, Jamie Laing, Jenny Eclair and Sunetra Sarker are the celebrities taking part this year.

That's all right. In my old age ,I probably need to be told twice.

I'll be frank - I was thrilled that I could remember it myself.

I'm also at "that age".

World Pangolin Day
Let us all enter this date in our diaries and celebrate next year.
(Don't mention that virus)

I've put it in my diary.

It will be something to look forward to in the long waits between "Talk Like A Pirate" days.

(19th September, if you're wondering)

MadamLeota · 20/02/2023 16:38

Today is apparently national Cherry Pie Day. It's also love your pet day. Tomorrow is not only Pancake day but sticky bun day. I can get on board with all of these😂

Maireas · 20/02/2023 16:40

I can get on with all of these, especially as my pet is a pangolin.

bruffin · 20/02/2023 16:43

As soon as they mentioned metal glazes , I thought to myself i would make a Pangolin Grin not that i am very good at pottery, it just seemed the obvious choice.

Saucery · 20/02/2023 17:05

I thought a snake of some kind. Maybe swallowing a goat, so I could show off my hand building skills if I had any, on its enormous belly.

You could make the horns poke it out of shape at the top, and two little back hooves and a goatly bottom sticking halfway out of its mouth to show your sculpting skills as well.

No need to thank me - I have a million brilliant ideas like this. Grin

Saucery · 21/02/2023 06:15
Grin
Maireas · 21/02/2023 07:26

@Emotionalsupportviper - I can't think why you're not a competitor with your creative skills. 😉

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/02/2023 08:19

I've often thought of applying @Maireas, even though I haven't touched a piece of clay since the Great "O" Level Snail Disaster of 1969 but it seems so unfair on the other competitors.

Maireas · 21/02/2023 16:36

I admire your selflessness. I would also like you to make me a snail, @Emotionalsupportviper

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/02/2023 17:16

My snail days are over . . . it is toooooo painful. 😭

Saucery · 21/02/2023 17:48

I make snails out of blutac when bored in meetings .The skill is in getting expression into their little faces.

AnyaMarx · 21/02/2023 22:37

I started my pottery class tonight and LOVED it !! Omg it's so therapeutic! I made a pinch pot mug ! Needs firing and then I can paint and glaze it - making a plate using a mould next week . I'm addicted ! Cannot wait to go back !

My little mug is very rustic but first attempt at anything in clay !

I can't wait to paint and glaze it !

talkingmorenonsense · 21/02/2023 23:23

I loved the panda. Lois should have got potter of the week.

AnyaMarx · 21/02/2023 23:47

I liked the panda and the tiger - long way from my offerings Wink

Saucery · 22/02/2023 06:29

That’s fantastic @AnyaMarx ! Do you know what colours you will go for?

<nods in agreement>

Though I find that their little antenna can be very expressive, too. A strategically modelled "feeler" can speak volumes.

(There's probably a PhD waiting to be carried out in snail body language, if anyone out there is looking for a thesis).

Play-do is also an excellent medium.

That is gorgeous, Anya!

There is a rustic "mugness" to it which is really satisfying - and I love your little flowers. I'd have been thrilled to produce that - please post further pictures when it's fired, and then when it's painted and glazed. I feel like I am vicariously "potting" through you.

Just a thought - have you considered branching out into snails? 🐌

AnyaMarx · 22/02/2023 18:42

Ha!!! Thank you
Y friends are all laughing at my little mug ! The meanies !

I'm doing a plate next week - I was thinking of doing a little mouse and a price of cheese on it 😂. I could sneak a snail in 😂

Yay!

"Gatropods rule, OK"

(I love mice, too)

Sunbird24 · 22/02/2023 19:29

I always used to doodle snails at school - a friend and I made a whole flip book of a snail slowly climbing up a window and back down - plus I’m of the age that did Fimo modelling, so I made quite a few snails that way too. They were all called Brian.

LaChatte · 22/02/2023 21:25

Here's one I made earlier 😁

Bagzzz · 23/02/2023 05:57

Love it!
