Think they should all go home. And enjoy baking nice things instead.

Came on here purely for the result.

From the comments am glad I didn't waste my time watching it.

KnickerlessParsons · 15/11/2022 22:13

It's almost as if they've made this latest series so pants that no one will watch the next one and then they'll have an excuse to stop
making them.

Things that would make me want to watch the next series:
•if Mary and Pru were the judges
•if they went back to making proper cakes
•if they brought back the little baking history interludes
•if they get rid of Noël and Matt and brought in someone funny but at the same time not irritating to do the funny bits
•if they gave the bakers a sensible amount of time to make the things their asked to make

Kakibob1924 · 15/11/2022 23:04

I think Sandro doing the “extras” instead of sticking to what was asked should have had him eliminated weeks back. He’s going for a career in media/celebrity appearances.

Aye hints of Craggy Island Eurovision.

My loved bake off
Running through the big tent
Where are you going
With your faces glowing
In the heat

I want to shower you with craquelin
run you ragged til you drop
Make your ice cream in tropical heat
And watch you weep into your slop

My loved bake off
You’re a bake show no more
Running around with PH on your back
Like a Swiss roll that’s cracked, yeah
like a Swiss roll that’s craaaaacked

Wonderful. Much better than the show by far.

jay55 · 15/11/2022 23:14

Had to watch behind on catch up so avoided the thread.
What a shite final.
No grasp of the basics. Could have been week one in another series.

Bah humbug.

They really do need to get back to basics IMO. Focus on bakes we’ve heard of (cakes, bread and pastry!), it doesn’t matter if it’s been done before on a previous series.. Make the challenges achievable - don’t set people up to fail (e.g. by not giving them enough time), it’s mean-spirited, and Bake Off is not meant to be like that. Less of the “constructions”. If they’re doing a country theme, don’t take the piss (see Mexican week). Ditch Noel and Matt (especially Noel - his random interjections are getting very old hat). Get presenters who can talk to the competitors about their bakes. If they keep Paul (I suppose they will), tell him to chill the fuck out. Ditch the Hollywood handshakes.
It used to be such a nice show. This one was not an easy watch at all.

KnickerlessParsons · 16/11/2022 03:58

I'd like to see who could make the best lemon drizzle cake, or an apricot and ginger loaf. Show stoppers could be birthday cakes, Christmas cakes, wedding cakes etc like they used to be.
Less of the "rustic scene made from five types of biscuit" bollocks.

Agree with all of this. I get really pissed off with PH strutting around behaving like God too. All of the lame jokes.. it’s just wearisome.

PrincessScarlett · 16/11/2022 07:12

@ArcaneWireless genius! Craggy Island Eurovision! 🤣🤣

PrincessScarlett · 16/11/2022 07:14

Yes, we need PROPER baking where the showstoppers are birthday or wedding cakes. Always remember Nadiya's reconstruction of her own wedding cake which was absolutely stunning. We want to look at beautiful cakes, not soggy messes.

Agree with this.

This series was awful, I only really had it on the in background with half an eye on it as it just didn't capture my attention enough.
Thinking back to the show 5+ years ago, and it was s
o much better.

Oh definitely! When bake off first started I used to feel like I could identify with the challenges, I felt like I was learning from watching.
Now I can’t relate to any of the nonsense they are asked to do.

UnderHisPie · 16/11/2022 08:22

It was a bad series with rubbish challenges and underwhelming baking (what baking there was).

MichaelFabricantWig · 16/11/2022 08:39

Sybira deserved the win out of that lot but what a shit series.

mediocre bakers, no one improved at all over the course of the series. Crap “bakes” and challenges. Set up to fail by (in the opinion of my pastry chef husband) challenges that are too difficult for a home cook (eg the vertical tart) and with not enough time to reasonably complete.

LadyEloise1 · 16/11/2022 09:14

You know what. I don't think we're the audience the show's producers want.
Gushing tributes on other platforms re the show.
It's dumbing down you see.
I watched the original Married at First Sight (UK)) I know Blushfor the first couple of seasons. Then they changed the format. Glammed up but dumbed down. I didn't bother watching it.

knittingaddict · 16/11/2022 09:44

Well that was a mess.

I was still cooking dinner when GBBO started and I couldnt even be bothered to use catch up. I happily missed the first 15 minutes and I think that says something. The show stoppers and the technical both suffered hugely from time constraints and it was very unsatisying as a viewer.

Usually in the final the judges are pretty positive about everyone and make sure no one goes away feeling bad. That was impossible to do this year or PH was just being a miserable git (not sure which).

Also sabataging the technical with vegetarian gelatine was a nasty thing to do. Wouldn't be surprised if they did it to disadvantage Sandro. I didn't really like him and didn't want him to win, but actually felt sorry for him in the final.

Yesterday we finished watching the 6th series of the Australian Bake Off and it was like a different program. The show stoppers were amazing and the winner was genuinely a bit of a baking genius. It was also positive and had a lovely vibe to it. I think the comparison makes the GBBO unwatchable now.

That's strange. My adult daughters have stopped watching GBBO this year too. I wonder who it is aimed at. US audience may be? The Halloween one wasn't broadcast at the right time, was it? It seems to have gone out at Halloween in the US.

Croque · 16/11/2022 10:02

It was never resolved whether Sandro should actually have been on Bake Off: The Professionals instead. He was retained as this year's eye candy 😀

The result was unfair: In the finals alone, Abdul performed best this year just as Chigs had performed best last year. It is convenient how PH is prepared to go on record to say 'It is only about the performance on the day, never mind how well you did previously' as he did with Hermione but change it to 'She was the strongest throughout the series' as he did here.

Croque · 16/11/2022 10:04

i also wish they would start afresh with new presenter and judges. This lot are creepy in different ways individually so bringing them together is a bit like a horror movie . It is just not the wholesome, family show as it was in the beginning.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 16/11/2022 10:18

Yes, get rid of Paul. Prue, Noel and Matt.

They're all so irritating.

Clean sweep needed.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 16/11/2022 10:19

Tbh the move to Channel 4 was when it all started to go wrong.

Cuck00soup · 16/11/2022 11:12

Adding to the - it was shit - comments.

To repeat a comment I've made before they need bakers, not instagrammers. Their back story is irrelevant and the only reason anyone should win is because they are ducking awesome bakers.

No more structures. Proper baking. Make a cake without a mixer, pipe proper royal icing, make something that I can't bake and inspire me.

No more Matt, Noel, Pru & Paul. I really enjoyed BO the professionals with Stacey Solomon and Liam this year. Would also be so happy to see Benoit as a main BO judge. (Actually I'd be very happy to see more Benoit generally).

Perhaps we could invite the Aussie ones to come over?

Apparently they have been replaced as the shows producers have decided that they want to follow a less wholesome route, and race our Bake Off to the bottom.

They might be persuaded to come here and raise the tone again.
