Bake off 2022 thread to, to the final

Think they should all go home. And enjoy baking nice things instead.

OP posts:
FawnDrench · 08/11/2022 22:32

Sandro the shampro should have gone.

Abdul is the secret weapon, edited lightly over the weeks, now roaring home with his final last grand self-effacing efforts, and his so so appealing persona.
He's been lovely the whole way through.
Reminds me of when Henry won, how it slowly built up.

I'm probably wrong anyway, but I'll watch and moan as usual.

CentralHeterochromia · 08/11/2022 22:35

Syabira should have won star baker tonight.

AnImaginaryCat · 08/11/2022 22:44

I'm suprised Sandro made it through, thought his showstopper looked a right mess with all the burnt caramel slodged out at every edge.

I will watch the final but only because I've come this far. Don't feel like I'll watch next year though.

I agree.

I really wish Noel would stop with his “random” interjections. I’m so over it.

MrsThimbles · 09/11/2022 08:23

Towcat15 · 08/11/2022 21:18

That was absolutely the wrong decision. Sandro needed to go for his arrogance alone

Yes. His badly acted, pretend ‘I’m such a humble bloke’ act was nauseating and I suspect he’d be quite intimidating/sneaky in his day to day life.

There’s way more to him than meets the eye. Scarily so.

Emotionalsupportviper · 09/11/2022 09:59

Here you all are!

I was worried sick!

MrsMitford3 · 08/11/2022 21:19

It's Jurgen going all over again for me

DON'T!!!

I still have flashbacks . . .

KnickerlessParsons · 09/11/2022 10:35

It's been set up to make us think Syabira will win, so she won't.

I just lurk on here but am delurking to disagree with this. I am a big fan of Sandro's lack of false modesty and desire to win- it is a competition after all!

I do think it must have been v close between him and Janusz and I was gutted that Janusz left. I like Abdul's tactic of being the 2nd or 3rd shittest every week and letting the better bakers slug it out, then getting through to the final - good luck to all of them Smile

ihavespoken · 09/11/2022 10:47

I think Syabira will win though and hope she does

ArcaneWireless · 09/11/2022 10:56

I am not a big fan of Sandro. At all.

He’d probably sell his granny for a pack of fags and a buttery and send her down the Clyde for his 15 minutes. Confidence is fine. Being a blaw or false modesty is not.

He seems to be the sort who would be on Only Fans 18 months down the line with a six pack and either a questionably filled eclair or playing knob hoopla with a dough ring.

Not for me.

ArcaneWireless · 09/11/2022 10:57

I’m with you I think mrsthimbles

He is a bonny man but there is nothing attractive about him if that makes sense.

LadyEloise1 · 09/11/2022 11:14

I'm surprised Abdul got through over Maxy and Junusz.
His bakes just never stood out.
He seems a really nice guy and I don't want to be unkind but I just didn't have him down for the final.
I felt that he got Star Baker last night because they had to justify him getting in to the final.

Honeybee8409 · 09/11/2022 15:04

Yeah

Tulipomania · 09/11/2022 18:31

I'm so over it now.

The bakes are all ridiculously difficult , obscure and pointless.

The judges are far too strict and charmless.

The presenters are just beyond tedious with their unfunny, irrelevant 'jokes'.

I will watch the final next week, but then I am done.

BalloonSlayer · 09/11/2022 19:06

Syabira's bakes are such that it is genuinely the first time I have thought "I wonder what that combination tastes like?" I love her. I hope even if she doesn't win she gets her own show.

I 💯agree.

Catagonia · 09/11/2022 20:59

Sandro and the semi circle confusion made me
laugh out loud though. Absolutely befuddled.

HeadNorth · 09/11/2022 21:10

I am gutted lovely star caker Janucz went, he was such a delight.

YilingMatriarch · 09/11/2022 22:07

Series 1-6 are the only ones I've bothered to rewatch. GBBO peaked in Series 6 with Nadiya, and then began its steady slide up its own backside. Give me Mel & Sue any day over the gormless witterings of Matt and Noel.

SuperCamp · 09/11/2022 22:54

It was Janusz who said star caker, wasn’t it? Sweetheart.

He was good, but all those early samey drip cakes.

Sandro has been consistently ambitious and sometimes dismissively judged, I think. What about the 200 skulls on his Mexican week cake?

LadyEloise1 · 10/11/2022 09:12

Paul Hollywood is about to be interviewed by Ryan Tubridy on RTE Radio 1.
Ryan gave him some build up in the intro re the interview. It was a bit sycophantic tbh. To the detriment of the lovely contestants.
He obviously hasn't read the views of Mumsnetters on these threads.
Sorry I can't do links.
But I will be listening.

Piggywaspushed · 10/11/2022 13:51

Just watched it. Not a Sandro hater but do think he should have gone. Those min charlottes were ridiculous and he often ignores the brief.

I didn't like the showstoppers mainly because I wouldn't want one of those at my wedding - but was not wowed by Sandro's which looked a mess or Syabira's because green.

Turbrity is always sycophantic. As I'd rather poke knitting needles in my ears than listen to him, will you give us a summary of the interview please?
