I have made the terrible mistake of starting to watch The West Wing again

... on Prime.

Sigh. I have watched it all before, but not in years. Maybe 10 years. I love it so much. I'll never get to bed at a reasonable hour again 😫So many episodes!

What are your favourite scenes? Best episodes? It's so brilliant, every time.

I re watch every few years. I get new stuff out of it each time. This last watch I enjoyed the discussion around internet and computing. While they were dated they grappling with some ideas we are currently grappling with now. Like equity of access to the internet.

Loved seeing Bartlett's first scene again in episode one, 'I am the Lord your God'. Loved Charlie's first episode, he'd just applied to be a messenger. Loved Andrew Jackson and the big block of cheese day. I'm only on episode 7 and there's been a million amazing lines already. SO. GOOD.

Just finished my latest re-watching of the whole 7 series - still love it. My absolute favourite scene is when Bartlett asks CJ for a favour

Best tv show ever (I might have named DS1 after my favourite character), I have lost track of the number of times I’ve watched it. Think my favourite episode is The Supremes (the one with Glenn Close in Season 5), but so many good ones to choose from. There’s a great podcast, the West Wing Weekly, which goes through episode by episode with interviews from the cast, which I’d really recommend.

squashyhat · 07/10/2022 04:18

I've just been thinking about a rewatch. Thanks OP - I'm going in. See you in a couple of months Grin

VeganSoulFood · 07/10/2022 05:27

I still carry a huge torch for the glum and endlessly quotable Toby Ziegler.

emmetgirl · 07/10/2022 05:51

I've watched it 3 times right through. I'll probably watch it again too.
And The Sopranos

DifficultBloodyWoman · 07/10/2022 06:05

It isn’t a terrible mistake. It was your best decision ever.

I may or may not have started to rewatch it two weeks ago. ☺️ They should have had more Rob Lowe in the later seasons though.

wonderingwhatsnext · 07/10/2022 06:09

I loved Celestial Navigation from the early series. " So not only did you create a Secret Plan to Fight Inflation, but now you don't support it??"

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/10/2022 06:13

The one about maps.

Such a great series.

What a great idea! Time to start again, methinks.

ShadowPuppets · 07/10/2022 06:43

We’re just coming to the end of a rewatch! We’ve half joked we might just go back to S1 E1 once we’re done in 3 episodes’ time…

BrightYellowDaffodil · 07/10/2022 06:44

I still carry a huge torch for the glum and endlessly quotable Toby Ziegler.

Who can forget “How did you accidentally have sex with a prostitute? Did you trip over?”

Thats a series I've never watched. I take it I should give it a go

wibblewobbleball · 07/10/2022 06:49

The best TV series ever. I think I've watched it about 5 times Blush I'm about to start another round of mat leave, and DH asked me what my binge watching would include "apart from West Wing of course" Grin he knows the score!!!

LetUsPonce · 07/10/2022 07:10

I love Ainsley Hayes. Her first scene, where she hauls Sam over the coals in a TV interview, is brilliant.

lugeforlife · 07/10/2022 07:14

I must confess to bring a Josh and Donna fan. 'I wouldn't stop for a beer, I wouldn't stop for red lights'.

I love Leo as well. I cry a lot from n season 7.

Rayna37 · 07/10/2022 07:25

Not only will it stop you getting to bed, you get up incredibly let down about the gulf between your actual job/life and your imaginary one as part of the Bartlet administration.

Notonthestairs · 07/10/2022 07:30

Two Cathedrals & In Excelsis Deo are my favourite episodes but really every single one is a gem.

I stop my rewatching at the end of series 4. Not because Sam leaves but I think the writing dropped off after Sorkin left.
Years ago there was a great article in Empire about it -

"Toby, come quick, Sam's getting beaten up by a girl!"
"Ginger, get the popcorn."

Bobbybobbins · 07/10/2022 07:40

Two cathedrals remains one if the best episodes of any series. Love everything about the West Wing.

dudsville · 07/10/2022 07:45

I managed to just enjoy the fact that someone else was watching this, until that clip about maps, damn what a good show. I shall start this evening.

ReachedTheEndofCake · 07/10/2022 08:31

The Mrs Landingham end of S2 episode and Bartlett’s hands going in his pockets. Shivers. And plenty of tears for Dolores !
Another vote for favourite ever series.

Very true @Rayna37

Some great moments mentioned here. I do love Ainsleys first episode.

Haha, I actually showed a clip of Josh and his secret plan to fight inflation with my DH when there was all the stuff about inflation and the government wouldn't share what they were going to do about it, about a week before the mini budget. So funny.

The Supremes also a great episode.
