Do you think Daisy May Cooper is a MNetter?

Friday night comedy on BBC1

Wonder if we can do MN Bingo when it's on.... spot the phrases

  • cancel the cheque
  • ducks in a row
  • LTB
Etc, etc.....

Just finished episode 1.

The bit I didn't get or hear properly was when Nic was telling her new pal about her great love (whilst being taped). Did she say it was going on for years while she was with her husband?

Also, new pal totally lying about never having had passion. As if.

Awrite · 23/09/2022 22:53

Oh, I liked it from off but not sure I want to binge watch.

Alibro79 · 23/09/2022 23:00

She's been very open that it's based on MN i think? In interviews. And has said she left a partner partly because of threads read on here.

inappropriateraspberry · 23/09/2022 23:13

I think her new friend is Alex's sister or wife.

HashtagShitShop · 23/09/2022 23:20

Binged it after the cliffhanger of the first ep and many what the fucks after I got going.

No spoilers, I really enjoyed it. What an ending too! It's one of those that I think would be ruined by a series 2 but also there's so many unanswered questions that still make you wonder

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 23/09/2022 23:46

'Now the ubiquitous phrase has lent its name to a primetime comedy - and a bracingly bold one, too. I look forward to Mumsnetters furiously debating its merits in posts beginning “AIBU or is AIBU a bit…” '

Just binged watched it!

Fucking brilliant.

I'd give it another go @orangeisthenewpuce It's not what you think. It's very dark.

pisspants · 24/09/2022 01:47

I just binged it too, is soooooo good! It definitely gets darker as it goes on and very worth watching, loved it!

Ok I will.

Love Daisy May. Watched 2 episodes in one go. Its a bit manic - given me a headache! Can't binge watch it.

FrancescaContini · 24/09/2022 07:32

Watched it too. I spotted:

”Does your husband give you the ick and make your fanny dry up?”

I really enjoyed it: some good observations and the ending was unexpectedly shocking.

I love the way Daisy stomps around clearly NGAF. Will be following. Thanks, Daisy, if you’re here!

nettie434 · 24/09/2022 08:49

I was wondering whether to watch it or not but this thread has helped me decide, especially the advice to stick with it.

the80sweregreat · 24/09/2022 09:42

It was manic at times.
I loved this country though and I like her , so will carry on with it

trulyconfuseddotcom · 24/09/2022 11:05

Binged it yesterday - was definitely not what I expected from the beginning. Enjoyed it but felt it was trying too hard to be too many things. Wasn't sure the last episode was the end, had to check to see if there was another one. And some of the scenes with her mate, who I think is her mate in real life, felt a bit too ad-lib and indulgent. But I'd watch another series if there is one.

spiderlight · 24/09/2022 11:49

We watched the first one last night and loved it - much much darker then we were expecting! She is 100% a MNer - the title is so blatant, and the post about 'the ick' confirmed it for me. The son is absolutely brilliant. Love the way he's just there, being himself, without a whole big worthy thing being made of his disability - the 'why?' when she's offered money for him from the school fair was fabulous.

donttalkaboutbookclub · 24/09/2022 11:51

I have nearly finished watching this and think it's excellent. I love all the characters in it as well - it's very well done. It's more like a whodunnit than a sit com really, very cleverly plotted. I was so disappointed in Daisy May's part in the witches comedy recently that it was a relief to see her do this. It's kind of a proper grown up project for her, I think - moving on from This Country but still with a similar vibe from her at times of not really fitting in or being bothered about things other people are.

Gonksmum · 24/09/2022 11:56

Yes, the first episode was really good. Loved her and son's relationship ( he was also good in Dodger) and the way they made the other mean mother squirm when pretending not to understand about the " equipment " she mentions!

Gonksmum · 24/09/2022 12:24

I meant that they forced Mean Mum to explain why they were giving the proceeds of fête to the main character's son!

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 24/09/2022 13:32

Two episodes in and I'm hooked!
I know the actor who plays Alex as I used to work with him before he became an actor. So "the" scenes were hard to watch as he is a lovely bloke in real life!

the80sweregreat · 24/09/2022 14:49

I enjoyed it , although Nic did get on my nerves.
I think we were meant to not like her much!

BirdinaHedge · 24/09/2022 14:49

Watched the 1st epi. It's dire.

Bring back Motherland !

bob78 · 24/09/2022 14:55

Bring back Motherland!

Two completely different genres, not sure why you're comparing to that.

the80sweregreat · 24/09/2022 14:59

It's different to Motherland completely. That was much more lighthearted.
If this carry on watching this you'll see why.
DMC is definitely a mumsnetter though! A few tropes thrown in.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 24/09/2022 16:10

Didn't enjoy 1st episode much as it was shouty and OTT. Mostly due to the pissed scenes. Persevered, however and I'm getting really into it now.

MN Bingo ticked off so far:

"I'm going to get me norks done"

"Don't want to sound nasty Viv, but she's Batshit Crazy"

And a rather tenuous "They've signed us up for Mums Netball"
