I had to sort out DD2- and didn't realise the thread was full.

I think Diego's kit might be green and yellow,

What a match, well done to Carlos! On form he should beat Tiafoe but those back-to-back five setters may take their toll, plus the crowd will be behind Frances.

I really don’t understand the scheduling. People say it’s for TV, but there can’t be much TV audience at 2am in the morning. Hope Carlos is able to get some rest now.

kazzaD66 · 08/09/2022 08:35

I've just read the BBC match report. Apparently, Tiafoe had joked after his win that he hoped this match would be a long 5-setter! I think they said this match ended more than 10 hours after Tiafoe's match! Plus, what time will Carlos get to bed, once he's done all the post match stuff? His body clock and daily routine - sleep, eating and practice - have been completely disrupted ahead of the biggest match of his life! It doesn't matter how young he is, it's a lot to recover from because it's not just the 5 hours 15 minutes match, it's the fact that his day has now become his night!

Fizzywinegum · 08/09/2022 09:09

Well done Carlos! Wish I’d been able to watch it

It can’t be good for the players finishing so late - Frances did say that he was hoping for them to have a five set match and he would be watching with his feet up!

Tennis seems to be more of an endurance sport these days with the conditions and late finishes!

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2022 14:39

I've just seen that Roger is unlikely to play in the Laver Cup because of a setback in his recovery. I can't remember what his injury was?

Fizzywinegum · 08/09/2022 14:50

Is it still his knee? Oh dear that’s not good for the Laver Cup if Roger or Rafa won’t be there

Raahh · 08/09/2022 16:10

I was reading about Roger last night- it is his knee again, and since the rules of Laver Cup are they have to play a certain number of matches- he can't just turn up to make up the team and let someone else take the slack.

If Rafa isn't there either, it will be a massive blow for the tournament (and I can imagine there will be some annoyed people who have paid a lot for tickets). That said, it was always a massive gamble that Roger would be there anyway. He's not played for a year. Or even Rafa- given the inuries/foot issues etc (and that this is the time of year he usually has a bit of a slump, not being an indoor player).

Casper and Stef will be there though- so no negative face Grin

Maybe it's Team World's year, finally. Grin

Mac will be hoping so Grin

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2022 16:24

Mac will be delighted Grin

I'm having an energy slump and sitting here watching the BBC News about the queen where they're desperately filling in.

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2022 16:24

X post Fizzy Grin

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2022 16:25

How come the queen can have gates with her initials on but if I did that it would be tacky?

Fizzywinegum · 08/09/2022 16:50

Grin Jane

I’ve had to stop watching the BBC coverage of the Queen - it is sad but there’s only so much they can say - I think they may have gone too early bringing out the big guns of Huw Edwards and Nicholas Witchell!

ChessieFL · 08/09/2022 17:59

I read an article just yesterday saying that Carlos wouldn’t have got to bed until around 6am after doing his media/physio etc after his last late match. Will be even later after this one. It’s not fair really and the matches don’t need to start as late as they do.

Raahh · 08/09/2022 18:15

Chessie- there really isn't any need for it. It can't be what the spectators want, either. At least it can't happen at Wimbledon, with the curfew.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 08/09/2022 18:21

It's ridiculous isn't it even though I suppose it is the city that never sleeps! It seems every tournament there's one player who ends up playing all last matches like Dan did in Toronto. It's very unfair.

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2022 18:22

late not last

kazzaD66 · 08/09/2022 18:47

I know it's not tennis. I know it's not unexpected. But it's hard to comprehend that HM The Queen has died Sad

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2022 18:50

I know kazza I was saying to DS1 that she's been the queen my whole life and there's no comparison with any other head of state anywhere. It seems very strange.

ChessieFL · 08/09/2022 18:53

It is a very odd feeling. Very strange hearing them referring to the King on TV.

kazzaD66 · 08/09/2022 18:54

I know, very strange. I keep thinking they're talking about her father, not her son!

Raahh · 08/09/2022 19:09

It is a very strange thing. It's not that long since the Jubilee, and I have been half expecting this- but it's still sad. Difficult for her children, to lose both parents within the year- what ever their ages.

Hearing them refer to the King is very strange. Sad

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 08/09/2022 19:12

Liz Truss just called him King Charles the Third and it's weird.

Fizzywinegum · 08/09/2022 19:46

Yes I feel quite sad about it all - I know it’s not unexpected but still sad all the same Sad

ChessieFL · 09/09/2022 04:42

We have an Iga/Ons final. I like both so I don’t really mind who wins, but it would be lovely to see Ons win her first slam especially after getting to the Wimbledon final. Iga’s won plenty this year!

Raahh · 09/09/2022 06:04

Chessie I wanted an Ons/Iga final at Wimbledon- so I am happy with this. I agree that it would be lovely for Ons to win.

OP posts:
IceandIndigo · 09/09/2022 07:31

Yeah I will be rooting for Ons, although I like Iga too. I wasn’t sure Ons would come through against Caroline Garcia but it appears she demolished her!
