I see the US Open have confirmed unvaccinated players won’t be able to play 😁

Raahh · 21/07/2022 11:20

I've not had chance to watch anything this week- the weather has played havoc with my tv (the virgin box keeps tripping- we think there is a fan to blame somewhere Grin)- it's cold and wet today, so hopefully it will resolve itself.
I get my tennis news from all over really, the scores mainly from the ATP sites/individual tournament websites.

The Express is surprisingly good for tennis news. The ATP can be a bit biased towards certain players.

I get lots of stuff in my emails, I must have clicked a lot of random websites and forums over the years and things just appear.
A lot of things re-hash the same stories (and some are not-great translations from international news sites- so that can be interesting).

I haven't found out why Bublik quit. He's an odd one though. If he got up in a funny mood, or the day had a 'y' in it, it could be the reason Grin
He was pretty 'salty' in his response to being beaten by Cressy the other day- apparently Maxime got 'lucky'.

Ice yes, it seems pretty cut and dry.
I saw yesterday, someone explaining names appear automatically , so many weeks ahead of the start date- so Djok would have appeared on the line -up. But that would not mean he would automatically be allowed to play.
This was the same in Australia, in November, but then all sorts of people got involved, and instead of sticking with 'the laws the law'- there were weeks of people trying to find loop holes and mess about- until it became a total fiasco.

This should be it now. No discussion.

He can't play until.... whenever the next tournament post Flushing Meadows, that allows non-vaxxed players in. The End.

But this feels like deja vu...

JaneJeffer · 21/07/2022 11:32

Ha yes I saw that Grin He also had an argument with Fergus about a foot fault which was funny though if you just read the headline you'd think Bublik had attacked him!

JaneJeffer · 21/07/2022 11:33

About Cressy I mean.

Raahh · 21/07/2022 11:50

Apparently, our mate Amelie was in the middle of a spat between Foggy and Bedene. They were arguing and things nearly got physical!. Aljaz was saying 'everytime you play. you always do something like this' Grin

I do wonder how Foggy is still allowed to play, at times, he is really no better than Kyrgios in many ways- but is clearly more charming in his racquet smashing and abuse.

OP posts:
Raahh · 21/07/2022 11:52

That was from the Tennis365 website- which is a prime example of something that just crops up on my news feed, because i must have read something eons ago Grin

Hmmugh.

I've just seen that Djok has been names in the Laver Cup Squad.
Probably got limited options in the Autumn for places he can travel to (not sure what the rules are for China- and although he went to the Olympics, it doesn't mean they haven't changed their vaccine rules since, as the US have done).

JaneJeffer · 22/07/2022 13:01

Phew, glad I couldn't afford those tickets Grin

Rafa's getting ready for Montreal but still unable to serve properly apparently.

My boy Pedro is playing Matteo at the moment. Keeping an eye on the score.

Might see if I can find Carlos on telly later.

Fizzywinegum · 22/07/2022 13:09

I saw that about Djok and the Laver Cup and ugh was also my immediate reaction Grin

I’m also glad that I didn’t fork out for tickets Jane - would be just my luck to spend £500 and end up watching Djok v Kyrgios!

Hope that Rafa gets better soon

Raahh · 22/07/2022 13:46

Fizzy can you imagine -they will definitely be lining up Kyrgios for the 4th spot on Team World, won't they?
I all honesty, and the greatest of respect to them all - but the tickets are ££££ -and Federer has barely played properly in over a year, Murray is a shadow of his fomer self (must mention 'hip') and Rafa will have either- not recovered from his recent issues, have foot problems, or be knackered after the US Open. or Baby Rafa will be due around then, and they will have to draft in Baby Rafa Alcaraz to take his spot. Grin

20 years ago, it would have been advertised as an over 35s Legends event, Grin

Maybe Mac only agreed to be captain again if Team World were given a head start and his mate Djok was there.

Oh yes because Kyrgios is box office of course Raahh Hmm

It will be interesting to see how many tickets have been sold - the prices really are ridiculous! (Especially to see a bunch of old crocks Grin)

I had baby Rafa confusion there Grin - yes soon there will be the real one and Alcaraz!

Raahh · 22/07/2022 14:36

Fizzy someone posted a picture on FB of Rafa, Roger and Djok , still playing in 30 odd years.

i can't find that one, but found this.
It's a bit creepy. Grin

Oh dear that is quite scary - old Djok reminds me of someone but I’m not sure who Grin

I think I saw the Roger and Rafa picture - I think one of them had a grey beard Grin

Raahh · 22/07/2022 14:45

Yes, I thinlk there may have been a beard. In one of the versions, Rafa has more hair than he does now Grin

Djok appears to have mislaid his teeth in this picture. That's what a diet of figs does to you.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 22/07/2022 14:48

Ugh he reminds me of Dr. Smith from Lost in Space who used to freak me out back in the 70's Grin

JuanPotatoTwo · 22/07/2022 17:40

Hi folks :). Someone sent me a funny TikTok video today which I thought you might like. It’s of Kyrgios but they have dubbed his speech with funny words. I haven’t explained that very well, and I also can’t link! But if you’re bored, look up hijosh on TikTok :)

JuanPotatoTwo · 22/07/2022 17:50

Re tennis news, I used to spend a lot of time on the Mens Tennis Forum. Was quite funny and got very heated at times. I got the impression that 99% of the posters were about 4 decades younger than me but there was sometimes interesting stuff being discussed.

I also used to watch TennisTv a lot but haven’t done that in a while. I liked it because it would show tennis from some of the lesser known tournaments, and it was a good way to keep an eye on the new up-and-comers.

Raahh · 22/07/2022 17:57

Juan Mens Tennis Forum used to get vicious at times!

OP posts:
JuanPotatoTwo · 22/07/2022 20:06

@Raahh it really did! I haven’t been on there for years now but I must have a look and see if they’ve mellowed!

Raahh · 22/07/2022 20:19

Juan when I used to read it, it was really mostly a lot of stuff between Fed and Rafa fans (and makes the comments FB from Djok/ Rafa fans look very tame). I think they came just short of actual death threats at times.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 23/07/2022 12:08

Matteo beat Domi. I feel sad for Domi because I thought a win here would give him a boost.

Raahh · 23/07/2022 12:17

Jane he's been having some good results lately, definitely a step in the right direction. His ranking is still pretty low- just within the 200 mark, I think- but aa as a former champion, I really hope he gets a wild card to the US Open . Will be a bit off if he doesn't.

At the same time, I think Matteo was so disappointed to miss Wimbledon (as were we- the whole Djok /Kyrgios thing might not have happened Grin)- it's nice to that he hasn't lost momentum- because he really was on roll before he got covid.

OP posts:
Raahh · 23/07/2022 12:27

Domi is on home turf in Kitzbuhel next week, so that should be a good for him. A win there would be a big leap. He is also playing Cincy on a protected ranking- which, thinking about it, might apply to Flushing meadows too (I know it can only be used for a certain number of tournaments).

That was one of the arguments a player made (forget who) prior to Wimbledon , for not playing, if no points were on offer- they had protected ranking status, but the idea is to make your way back up. They said there was no point wasting a PR spot on a tournament with no points on offer. Fair enough I suppose . (I'd be swayed by the hefty pay cheque, personally, but that's jut me Grin).

JaneJeffer · 23/07/2022 12:56

Carlos is on again later. I saw some of the second set yesterday. He's just amazing to watch. Karen didn't know what to do (apart from have a mini argument with Amelie Grin)
