I'm wide awake and considering putting the Nadal match on, but it might disturb the dogGrin. Dh still at the hospital and not been seen since 10pm when he was x rayed. ( we thought that was a good sign- but no-one has been near since.).

I'm awake worrying about bloody freezers and the fact someone might turn up at 7am- and the old freezer needs collecting ( and dh insisted it wouldn't need defrosting) it's got an ice maker in it- full of ice!).

Arghh! Why can't anything ever be straightforward?

Rafa had better win!

OP posts:
Raahh · 02/09/2022 03:28

Well, this isn't going to plan. Foggy is 5-2 up and I have a really bad feeling about the way the natch is going.

VAMOS!

OP posts:
Raahh · 02/09/2022 04:25

I set all. Rafa really could do with wrapping this up soon. It's getting late- he won't want a 5 set epic at this stage of the tournament.

I am also up early and watching Rafa. He has injured himself in a very odd way - his racket bounced off the court and hit him in the face. He’s now having a medical time out. Hope he’s ok and can finish the match.

ChessieFL · 02/09/2022 05:21

Yay, he’s up again after having his nose strapped up.

Raahh · 02/09/2022 06:18

I finally nodded off - missed the medical tome out- and woke up to see the last sets were a more straightforward, scoreline wise.
I hope his injury is nothing serious now!

Glad to see that Rafa won.

How is your DH Raahh? And how is the freezer??

Raahh · 02/09/2022 07:48

Morning magi I have just picked up dh- so nearly 12 hours there. He has morphine and will be no use to me with the freezer whatsoeverGrin.
It's coming sometime after 9.30. My mum's partner ( they own the house and are doing the kitchen) is hopefully going to be here by then.

This was not in the plans- and I was dreading the upheaval as it was.

I really need to work on my bedside mannerGrin. 'It's your own bloody fault' probably wouldn't sound sympathetic right now.

But - yay! To Rafa. Xisca has been/still is(?) In hospital- the baby is ok, but Rafa has been very unhappy at the press leaking the story. Must be playing on his mind. There were points in the first couple of sets I thought he just wanted to go home.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 02/09/2022 08:07

Hope it all goes ok Raahh - I’m not sure I would have much sympathy if it was my DH!

Hope Xisca and the baby are ok - must be a worry for Rafa - he’s also having beef with Mac about how long he takes between points but Mac seems to be backtracking a bit now

Rafa’s got Gasquet next who hasn’t troubled him the last 17 times they’ve played so hopefully won’t this time!

kazzaD66 · 02/09/2022 08:54

Sorry, I couldn't help but laugh at the description of Rafa's injury. How did it bounce back in his face?! If it was Foggy, I could understand it, he's always throwing his racquet around.

Sorry to hear about Xisca.

I see Serena and Venus lost their doubles. Hubie is out aswell.

Hope your morning goes as well as or better than expected Raahh. And* *DH will get the bedside manner he deserves.

Raahh · 02/09/2022 09:42

I am sad Hubie is out-- i do like him.

Rafa's accident is definitely an odd one- and yes, I can imagine Foggy whacking himself over head with a racquet, but it's very unlucky for Rafa.
I damaged my nose once, in a 'freak' accident- I was turning the mattress on my (kingsize) bed- and being very short, this involved standing on the bed base (don't ask). My house rabbit jumped up on the base, which scared me because I thought he was in the kitchen- and I fell and squashed my nose. Narrowly missed the bunny, who did end up with a bit of blood on his tail.

Blimey that hurt. Grin

Fizzy Mac is irritating me, because every time I read anything he's still banging on about Djok. He's never been much of a Rafa supporter anyway, and (like all of them) is obsessed with the shot clock.

Yet another player can harrass officials, wasting more time arguing with people than Rafa ever does between points, swear his head off and be a total dick- and he's the saviour of tennis. Go figure.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 02/09/2022 10:37

That does sound like a very freak accident Raahh Grin

I’m not quite sure what happened with Rafa - he didn’t throw his racquet - I think he just somehow managed to hit himself in the face with it!

I was going to watch a replay of the match but even Rafa admits he was terrible - especially at the beginning. He says that he’s playing really well in training but not so well in the matches Grin

Rafa tried to defend himself about the shot clock thing - he said that he doesn’t swear or throw his racquets or leave a mess on the court Grin. I’m not quite sure what he means - hopefully it’s a bit of Rafaese lost in translation!

Meanwhile Kyrgios, the saviour of tennis, has been fined (again) for spitting on the court - nice! Hmm

Fizzywinegum · 02/09/2022 10:42

Rafa’s words were ‘doing a mess on the court’ - the mind boggles even further Grin

Raahh · 02/09/2022 10:52

I really think that spitting should be an automatic default/booted out offence. Unless a player is actually coughing/choking and it's unavoidable. Especially now, when we've just spent over 2 years trying to avoid being coughed and spluttered on.

'Making a mess on court' that does sound a bit Rafa-ese. Grin

I remember my nose accident vividly - it was just before Christmas 21 years ago. I had two massive black eyes for the festive period. Grin and my 30th birthday.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 02/09/2022 11:06

I agree about the spitting Raahh - it’s disgusting and potentially dangerous - yuk!

I also had a nose injury just before a birthday - the moral of that story is do not go on stepping stones in the dark (after having a few drinks!) - it was a very long time ago but I had a miserable birthday that year!

Raahh · 02/09/2022 11:14

Fizzy i've always managed to injure myself most when stone cold sober- which is annoying, because my broken wrist would have been a lot less painful had I been drunk. But I was 4 months pregnant, and slipped on an icy step. I did attempt to drive home- til I realised I couldn't physically move my hand.

I have never, knowingly, injured myself with a tennis racquet though.

I’m going to try to watch a replay to see what actually happened - poor Rafa!

kazzaD66 · 02/09/2022 12:50

I watched the replay of the incident. Bizarre doesn't cover it. At least it all turned out well and the plaster on Rafa's nose blended in so well to his skin tone, you almost didn't notice it Grin Unlike the fluorescent pink top and cap he put on for the interview Grin

Fizzywinegum · 02/09/2022 13:00

I’ve just watched it as well kazza - it was very bizarre!

I was also wondering if the medic had a plaster for every skin tone in his little box as it was a very good match for Rafa!

Raahh · 02/09/2022 13:25

Poor Rafa, I hope there is no long term damage. Other than to his pride, maybe.

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 02/09/2022 13:52

Apparently, he's done it before with a golf club but never a tennis racquet, until now!

Raahh · 02/09/2022 13:54

He's hit himself with a golf club? Oh dear Grin

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 02/09/2022 14:17

Well, we've seen what he's like with an electric whisk! Also, nearly knocking himself out when jumping before a match, without first checking the ceiling height! The man's an accident waiting to happen Grin Don't let him near the baby!

Fizzywinegum · 02/09/2022 14:24

Grin kazza

After seeing his reaction to his own blood I think he might be staying at the top end during the birth!
