Just caught up on i

PAFMO · 20/06/2022 14:29

Ooof.
As I was saying ..

As Ashfield born and bred my gong for most realistic accent goes to Mr. Sparrow so far! We're much nearer to a Derbyshire or a Sth Yorkshire Sheffield/Doncaster accent than a Vicky McClure/Nottingham accent.

I remember when the real case happened sitting watching as it unfolded on local BBC/ITV news and thinking how utterly daft it seemed that there was a loon with a crossbow on the run in Sherwood Forest.

I would have said Andy as UC cop but not now he's walloped JF with a shovel. Lorraine Ashbourne possibly now if we can have a woman.

CoffeeWithCheese · 20/06/2022 20:28

I grew up in the Durham coalfields in the Miners Strike era - it's interesting to see as someone who adopted Notts as their home town just how different it was round here then in terms of the views of strikers/those who worked through it.

Vicky McClure doesn't have to be in EVERYTHING from Nottingham though - she WAS filming a couple of streets from here a few months ago though.

FuzzyPuffling · 20/06/2022 21:10

Daphne Sparrow has a hint of Scouse about her accent. Which is ok, she might not be local.

BishyBarnyBee · 20/06/2022 21:16

Was that Newstead Abbey? Stunning building.

FuzzyPuffling · 20/06/2022 21:41

Yes Newstead Abbey. Scene of many of my Sunday school picnics. I especially loved the Japanese garden with the stepping stones through the stream.

If the spy cop was sent from elsewhere it's most likely they wouldn't have a local accent.

Who saw tonight’s

ButtonSister · 20/06/2022 22:15

At the beginning tonight when they were showing the miners protesting they kept focussing on a young woman with red hair, as well as on a young St Clair. My money is on the spy cop being St Clair's now wife

WobblyLondoner · 20/06/2022 22:19

Does anyone else find the title music a bit weird and jarring. The last two episodes have had really intense and grim endings and it feels really odd to then switch to this cheery music!

Feel so sorry for Andy's son. Horrible.

Such a moving scene between Julie and Cathy. Do we know a thing more about their rift and whether it relates to the strike or something else?

Agree but I wondered if it was Daphne Sparrow or even Julie.

the80sweregreat · 20/06/2022 22:34

It's a strange drama all round.
I can't quite get my head around it all.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/06/2022 22:36

Thought tonight’s a bit boring

the rift between sisters was over their hubbys. As one striked. The other went to work

Xmasbaby11 · 20/06/2022 23:15

I found it a bit slow tonight but still good.

Scott is taking risks going into people's houses.

Really dislike Andy so hope he gets caught soon!

Rosehugger · 21/06/2022 02:41

It's not cheery title music, it was Geordie Black, a song about a miner too old to continue working but who has no choice, and how he's been working there since he was a kid.

I love the fact they really do show the absolute beauty of the area and don't just go into "gloomy pit village" mode - the north of the county is an incredibly beautiful area that's really underrated as the UK goes. I love driving around the countryside areas here.

I did laugh when they were complaining about the two murders and a peacock though.

I find it very hard to watch a lot of TV shows these days with them constantly pushing the boundaries of graphic-ness and brutality - it's nice to have a slowish burner one where the focus is on the connections between the characters rather than just how brutally they can bump people off.

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/06/2022 10:09

I live in Derbyshire which is a bit like that but more hilly. There are plenty of former pit villages which consist of a couple of rows of terraced houses surrounded by fields and woods. Nowadays there tends to be new developments added to them. It's not all grim up North (although Nottinghamshire is definitely Midlands not North).

absolutelynotfabulous · 21/06/2022 12:23

The pit villages are fascinating. Just a couple of streets surrounded by greenery. So different from eg South Wales.

I travel to Nottingham occasionally and wonder how much of the landscape is actually grassed - over pit waste.

Rosehugger · 21/06/2022 12:35

Lindsay Duncan is billed in episode 4 as "Elizabeth Hale". I kept getting confused as she is always being shown in photos and trailers and I don't recall that she has been in it yet?

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 21/06/2022 12:43

Popping on to this thread as I’m really enjoying this show and want to be able to discuss it!!
I watch everything with subtitles and the woman with the red hair in the protest scenes appears to be Julie.

A lot of it is. There are also some lovely country parks (in my area and no doubt Nottinghamshire) created entirely out of former industrial land.

the80sweregreat · 21/06/2022 16:02

The bit with the sisters behind the walls was sad :(
She should have gone round there, but too much history there to get past.

DuncinToffee · 21/06/2022 16:48

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/06/2022 06:22

Thanks for that. I hadn't clocked the bloke in the bar who had the fight with Salisbury was St Clair's brother.
