Not a Kate fan - how could she have got a Masters degree (she didn't even have a bachelors did she?) and writing the curriculum for the State in a short space of time? A bit implausible I feel.
And where is the cabin supposed to be? I had visions of it being very remote and up a mountain somewhere - but it appears to be pretty close to a Chinese takeaway!

The cabin is close to a small town. Over all the seasons and episodes, we've seen them pop out for ice cream, cake, shopping, takeaways.

Deja looked to be a doctor in the flashforward ages ago. Or at med school

diddl · 15/05/2022 09:34

I like the idea that Kate has found something she enjoys & therefore has more confidence & has worked at it.

Hope she is still managing to do the teaching that she loves though!

I can't help wishing that she had a successful singing career-not necessarily to the extent that Jack seems to have.

Why did she give up singing?

SapatSea · 15/05/2022 09:47

IIRC in the flashforward it was Deja's first day of medical training which was why she was worried about telling Randall she was pregnant. In the US medicine is usually a second degree entry subject so you have to already have a degree or do a 3 year pre med studies degree equivalent. I guess we don't know if Deja had breaks in her education.

I think Kate started a degree whilst living at home when she was young but dropped out. When she was married to Toby she went back to Community College using her prior credits to finish her studies as she couldn't get the teaching assistant job without it.

I've just started rewatching from season 1 and I have a question that Google seems unable to answer: Where did the cabin come from? Did they buy it or inherit it? Not that it really matters!

Good question, I thought they really struggled to buy their house so I'm not sure how they would have bought a cabin too!

drwitch · 15/05/2022 19:48

I think they borrowed if off a work colleague and then took it over - (in season 1)

sunshineandshowers40 · 15/05/2022 20:14

That's what I thought too @SynchOrSwim

Thank you @drwitch

SynchOrSwim · 15/05/2022 20:26

I don't understand, surely nobody would just let a colleague have a house they own?

XelaM · 15/05/2022 20:29

I'm pretty sure it was explained in one of the episodes how the got the cabin. I just can't remember which season it was in.

SynchOrSwim · 15/05/2022 20:41

Google told me this

I thought this week’s episode was a bit “meh” / I loved the last 2 and felt this was a bit nothing but I guess it was all part of the story arc.

I really think they rushed Miguel’s demise. Was he a bigger love than Jack?

everylittlehelp5 · 15/05/2022 20:47

Apologies if this has already been said but in the flash forward episodes (deathbed one) Beth isn't there is she?

HerculesMulligan · 15/05/2022 21:10

My recollection is that I thought for a while during the flash forward episode that Beth had died. Then we saw her walking across a balcony at the ballet school and looking down at the dancers. I wonder if there might be a twist here (we know how TIU loves a twist) where they split Randall and Beth up, perhaps because of his political ambitions. WHICH WOULD BREAK MY HEART.

Yes she is, because they hid her for an episode (or part of an episode?) when we were supposed to think she and Randall had split up, and then it turned out she was there.

I thought Kevin bought it after he made all that money from the TV show

HerculesMulligan · 15/05/2022 21:27

Kevin built the new house, but I think the original cabin belonged to Rebecca's parents, didn't it?

WingBingo · 15/05/2022 21:35

Pretty sure DR K that delivered the big 3 left it to the family when he died.

Wasn’t he at Jack’s funeral though, and the cabin had been shown years before Jack died.

Yes and she had to bring a board game which I always wonder if they will mention when they catch up to the death bed scenes as it was mentioned twice (I recently rewatched the series)

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 15/05/2022 23:15

I’d like to speculate on there being a neat twist in the final eps. Think how it started, that lovely twist when you realise Rebecca and Jack are back in time, yet it looks so modern day. Could the final eps have a similar play on the timelines?

AnnesBrokenSlate · 16/05/2022 01:03

iirc one of Jack's colleagues (possibly his boss?!) had the cabin originally and let them use it sometimes. Then Jack and Rebecca bought it.

SynchOrSwim · 16/05/2022 12:46

An article I found online says Jack bought it when they were 10. Lots of people have said he got it from a colleague/boss so I guess he bought it off the colleague/boss when the kids were 10 as their finances were a bit more stable by then?

ButtonMoonLoon · 16/05/2022 12:53

I’m delighted to have found this thread- none of my friends seem to be anywhere as in love with TIU as I am!
I’m planning to rewatch a few key episodes from each season between now and next week- any suggestions as to which ones would be good, and is anybody else going to do the same?

Planker · 16/05/2022 16:31

Placemarking without reading - I’m away on holiday so will catch up on two episodes when I return.

i will be sad when it’s all finished
