I'm all caught up! I was not expecting the last episode to revolve around that game of pin the tail on a donkey. I loved how they had the foresight to film some of it 3/4 years ago so the little kids could be filmed

Was that a bit about Randall going to eat fried stuff in Ohio hinting at aspirations to be president???

I still have many questions!!!

Yeah, I think he said that the DNC had asked him to go to the Iowa State Fair to shake some hands and eat deep fried Oreos so it looked like he was being put forward as a possible Democrat candidate.

Well every funeral that I have been to has had maybe a slightly younger photo but not one in their 20's

Mil (died at 96) had a photo of ‘her’ around 4 years old and another one of her at her marriage.
Shame that her children picked a picture of her SISTER at 4 years old. I thought the glasses would have been a clue … mil wore them all her life, her sister was never prescribed them. ……

I’m really sad that there’s no episode to look forward to this week! Any recommendations for similar types of show to fill the void?

Brothers and Sisters was similar in some respects, it’s old but of you haven’t seen it it might fill the gap.

BinBandit · 31/05/2022 20:42

I enjoyed Parenthood but don't think it's showing anywhere free at the moment. Offspring was very enjoyable but is a bit lighter.

BinBandit · 31/05/2022 20:44

If you don't mind subtitles, Bonus family is a good series. I also liked Rita which has a similar vibe but is about a teacher in Denmark.

I have been rewatching brothers and sisters

I loved it when it was on

there is a other show but can’t think what it is called. Had twins Juliet and a man
ans they were filthy rich

and think 1/2 siblings as well

sure title was something to do with money

Different tone as it is hilarious and easy to watch but Life in Pieces is brill, it’s on Amazon prime but might be elsewhere.

I loved Rita. I actually binge watched it. Must have a look at Bonus Family.

Parenthood is amazing! Loved it so much. It's my favourite "big family feel good drama".

There is also a Rita spinoff called Hjordis that you might want to watch.

Theblacksheepandme · 01/06/2022 10:27

@BinBandit
Didn't know there was a spin off. I loved Hjordis.

Sooverthemill · 01/06/2022 13:34

So I loved it. It tied everything up. This is Us was always the Pearson five. I loved the flashbacks and the post funeral scenes. My mum died 20 years before my dad who died 7 years ago. His funeral was the last time all my sisters got together ( logistics are tricky as we are in diff countries but our parents were a pull). I hope the big three manage to keep in touch.

brotehrs and sisters has Ken Olin as producer/ director so it has a similar vibe. He was also thirtysomething and there was talk of a spin off with the kids from that show.
all these tv series had heart which is what this is us gave us.

So disappointed about Kyle being completely forgotten about. It was dodgy enough that the whole show was built around the idea that you can just ‘replace’ a dead baby, but I was willing to push that to the back of my mind most of the time and enjoy the series. But not mentioning him at all in the final episodes is so thoughtless.

Agreed 100% it so sad that Kyle wasn't mentioned - a major loose thread.

Dirty sexy money?!

Gaspisplash · 02/06/2022 07:30

I loved Dirty Sexy Money!

It only ran for a season. Had Donald Sutherland and one of the Baldwins.

Was really good!

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/06/2022 07:45

Well done @ChimChimeny

I've been saving the last episode and loved it. Randall was always my favourite and loved his scenes with William.

Moofart · 03/06/2022 23:13

One thing that I thought was missed from the train episode was Rebecca reuniting with the baby she lost, after all, it was the loss of this one that paved the way to Randall.

Nospringchickendipper · 04/06/2022 10:53

Just caught up on the last episode, I must admit I was a bit disappointed in it.
I will never get over the fact that Manuel didn't feature more at the end.

Myhusbandsnores · 04/06/2022 12:22

Manuel? It’s not Faulty Towers. You can’t have thought that much of Miguel not to even get his name right!

Nospringchickendipper · 04/06/2022 16:48

Sorry my mistake Miguel.I do make mistakes at time.I’m sorry you where so offended by it.

Wallawallakoala · 04/06/2022 23:50

I'm really disappointed there was not even a mention of Kyle!

OhSister · 06/06/2022 16:37

When Rebecca walked into the caboose and there was a small child playing in the corner, I thought for a split second it was Kyle, before realising it was Kate. I feel they were so close to getting it right... She heard Kate's voice on the train, so she already knew she was there. We didn't need her in the caboose!

Rebecca could have walked into the caboose to find a baby Kyle happily playing and babbling in his cot; she could have gathered him up in her arms and had that reunion that every bereaved parent watching was surely waiting to see, and then taken him to lie down in the bed where Jack would also appear. They could have had their conversation with the baby between them.

I think was a really glaring omission in an otherwise beautiful episode.
