I'm so glad I've found this thread! I ended up watching the last episode on Disney+ last night.

I have also watched NBC's preview for next week and something doesn't add up.They show the gathering at the house for Rebecca's goodbye and the children are all sort of 9-12 years old.

But in the flash forward we had several seasons ago of Rebecca's death, Jack was almost an adult, wasn't he? I'm confused. Could there be two deaths to come? Kate and Rebecca?

The kids are Kevin’s I believe

Pinkcadillac · 13/05/2022 19:29

Hayley is there too, next to Toby (dark haired 10-11 year old), and Philip has his arm around another teenager who might be Jack, he looks like 13-14?

Gaspingandleaping · 13/05/2022 19:45

Everyone's posts are still being cut off at the end. I wish MN would sort it - it's been rubbish since the upgrade.

Adding to my confusion!

Jack hasn't been seen in the death bed flash forward. Toby says he's spoken to Jack on the phone and 'they're' on their way.

The adult Jack are further forward after Rebecca has died

Pinkcadillac · 13/05/2022 20:26

Yes, I remember now. It is Kevin's teenagers that you can see in season 4 flashforward. Jack isn't there.

AnnesBrokenSlate · 13/05/2022 21:30

I think the flashforwards confused people because Rebecca's death bed flash forwards were intercut with baby Jack's flashforwards as an adult and meeting Lucy. People assumed it was the same timeline but it wasn't.

There was a timeline article that said the flashforwards of Rebecca's death are supposed to be when Jack, Hailey, Franny and Nicky are about 13 or 14. The original Big Three are about 52 - which is hilarious because the make-up team has aged them to look much older than that. It's another aspect that confused people about the timeline. Kevin and Randall look as though they're in their 60s not early 50s.

XelaM · 13/05/2022 21:57

Beth was so happy that Randall didn't get to move another parent into their house 😂

Cheese but quite nice episode

XelaM · 13/05/2022 21:57

Cheesy*

Oh, and Philip is insufferable 😣

pastabest · 13/05/2022 22:50

Adult Jack's first concert where we see him with parents x 2 and gf and Rebecca's death could be on similar timescales.

My prediction is that the train episode will go back to the caboose episode with Rebecca's dad.

I also predict Kate dies, probably not long before Rebecca. Possibly also train related and also possibly on the way back from Jack's concert. We don't see Philip at the cabin either do we? Perhaps he does too or perhaps he is the 'they' referred to travelling with Jack.

That is why we see Kev phoning Randall but not Kate at the end of this episode.

They have done the opposite all the way through implying that people might have left when they haven't. Perhaps this time showing Kate at the concert is the curve ball to make us think she outlives Rebecca when actually she doesn't.

Aboutcoffee · 13/05/2022 23:19

Could the scene where Kate and Philip and Toby and coffee shop lady are watching Adult baby Jack in a bar be a dream sequence? And in fact Toby never got married again and Kate died?

It is strange that Kevin phones Toby who says "they are on their way". Why would he not just phone Kate?

There is precedent for dead people showing up...wasn't there a scene with an aged up Jack even after he had died??

Maybe I am mad Grin

unhappychaos · 14/05/2022 00:21

All along I have been thinking you were all barking mad for saying Kate dies, but it suddenly seems possible.

She's not there at all in the promo for 6x17.

SynchOrSwim · 14/05/2022 06:22

I think they're messing with us and Kate will just get there at the last minute. I assumed when Kevin called Toby it's Kate he's talking about?

HerbErtlinger · 14/05/2022 07:31

I really don't think Kate has died. Annie is only university age, Deja is a med student etc in the death bed scene, Kevin's twins are about 10 and Jack is only a year or so older so no way would he be an adult when Rebecca dies but is definitely in his twenties in the other flash forward with Kate and Phillip and Toby and his wife watching him play.

Unihorn · 14/05/2022 07:49

I did wonder if Kate may end up being in the early stages of Alzheimer's towards the end of the series to sort of come full circle, but that may be too cruel...

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/05/2022 08:02

Does seem weird that Kate isn’t in the promo and all about Kelvin and Randall

tho they like to keep us guessing and talking

so sure she is fine

Netaporter · 14/05/2022 09:18

Or she misses the death by being stuck on a train in the caboose car? 🤷‍♀️😂

AnnesBrokenSlate · 14/05/2022 10:06

I don't think they meant the Kate issue to be a big thing. In lots of interviews, the showrunners have explained the timeline. Jack is still young at the cabin for the Rebecca deathbed scene. Kate is still alive when Jack is an adult.

User237845 · 14/05/2022 13:47

I am sooo confused with the timelines. So all of this week's episode was about 5 years in the "future"? Cos in the present, Kev's twins are 18 months ish, and they're about 6 or 7 now?

I suppose it doesn't matter really as only 2 to go but I like to get it straight in my head.

Liked the bit with Toby supporting Kate. They have more chemistry as a divorced couple than Kate and Philip do married! Think the makers realise that and that is why they put that line in, "Should we get back together?"

Finding it all a bit sad and melancholy now. The big thing about deaths of older people is that however sad, life goes on. But because the series is ending, it kind of doesn't!

notasillysausage · 14/05/2022 20:28

It’s a reference to the film Princess Bride, great film if you haven’t seen it.

BaconAndAvocado · 14/05/2022 21:07

When are the final 3 episodes out?

The third from last was out on Thursday, the final two are on the 19th and 26th in the UK.

blahblah81 · 14/05/2022 21:36

Am I not right in thinking we were led to believe baby jack was burnt by the bbq? Yet we've never seen that?

SudokuMania · 14/05/2022 21:38

Not a Kate fan - how could she have got a Masters degree (she didn't even have a bachelors did she?) and writing the curriculum for the State in a short space of time? A bit implausible I feel.
And where is the cabin supposed to be? I had visions of it being very remote and up a mountain somewhere - but it appears to be pretty close to a Chinese takeaway!

He wasn't, he had a bad fall when he wandered out on his own during Rebecca and Miguel's anniversary BBQ. The egg barbecue thingy was responsible in a way.
