Can anyone explain the "Mawwage" accent Kevin was doing at Kate's wedding?

It’s from The Princess Bride, Peter Cook as a priest at the wedding. In the show it was Sophie’s favourite film as a kid, I think there was a Princess Bride themed birthday party flash back?

MadisonAvenue · 13/05/2022 11:14

I’ve read an interview that Mandy Moore recently gave and she said that she’s got a feeling that episode 17 will destroy people but that 18 is a bit lighter.

Juniper68 · 13/05/2022 11:22

Is 18 the final?

lurkingfromhome · 13/05/2022 11:43

For those thinking something is about to happen to Kate, it won't - we know she is alive at the deathbed scene as she is there at the flashforward to (her son) Jack's first big concert, which must be around 5 years after Rebecca dies.

Netaporter · 13/05/2022 11:46

I’m hoping that the train reference goes back to the Caboose? But I think that is clutching at straws.

I’m thinking yy to President Randall but it didn’t look like he took the call in the Oval Office when older Kev calls to say it’s time?

I think we are supposed to think that Philip released Kate’s potential after being stifled by her weird relationship with her mum, and her Dad, then her brothers and then Toby? Agreed very few divorces end up that amicable or why she would then ask Toby’s advice and not her actual husband?

hope we see more of older Jack and Hayley who seems rather forgotten in all this…

OrangeBall · 13/05/2022 11:51

Hurrah! Thanks @Steala I will download it quickly before it goes 😂

HerbErtlinger · 13/05/2022 12:13

Kate definitely isn't dead, we see her in a flash forward with grown up Jack.

I liked the interaction between Kate and Toby but didn't think it matched miserable/uncomfortable Toby that we see in the death bed flash forwards

They are probably busy with work/Uni/life & don't want to keep running off to see Granny Pearson.

I like the idea that they might be slightly less enmeshed!

Is it not just that in the wedding scenes and the last couple of episodes they were an awkward age where the you get actresses were too young to play them and the older actresses too old?

But I mean will we get flashes forward in the final episode which will include a president Randall?

His big first concert so he’s an adult

so did Rebecca live for another 5/10yrs without Miguel

we need to know how old everyone is at the cabin

Finally watched it. It all hit a bit too close to home for me. My mum was very ill and died last year. We had those family meetings and the cycle of caring for her. I'm starting to think I might not be able to watch the episode where Rebecca dies when it's released. It's still a bit raw.

Otherwise I thought this was an odd episode. Framing it around Kate making a decision and then ultimately going with Kevin's option (which we already knew they were going to do because of the flash forwards to Rebecca's deathbed scene) felt like a waste of time. I liked Beth pointing out to Randall that Kate and Kevin weren't children or wayward teens any more. I hated Philip mansplaining to Sophie and Beth about their inappropriate humour. 🙄Yet again, Kate's dynamic with Toby felt more supportive than her relationship with Philip.

But despite all my gripes along the way, I'm going to miss them all when it ends.

HerculesMulligan · 13/05/2022 13:22

I thought it was refreshing, if really bittersweet, to see a mainstream show devote a whole hour to how hard it can be to work out care arrangements for elderly relatives. Not sure I've seen that before.

Old Kevin is very attractive. Normal Kevin has never appealed, but when he phoned Randall....

Randall answering on a landline made me wonder if he's President. I hope not, that would be proper shark-jumping territory.

Aboutcoffee · 13/05/2022 13:48

I don't think Randall can be president for the deathbed gathering as didn't he go to collect Tess himself and there was not 250 bulletproof cars trailing along. But weird about the landline all right though but presume it was his Senators office?

Maybe the massive concert we see adult baby Jack going on stage for is actually Randalls inauguration concert.

I won't know what to think then.

But I feel we have another tragedy to come ☹️

diddl · 13/05/2022 13:49

to see a mainstream show devote a whole hour to how hard it can be to work out care arrangements for elderly relatives.

In a way it didn't though.

Rebecca was always going to get fabulous round the clock care no matter how much input there was from K, K&R.

No one ultimately was trying to juggle a job & do as much as possible to keep costs down.

Gaspingandleaping · 13/05/2022 14:15

I ended up watching it on Disney plus last night.

Still pissed off about how unrealistic dementia is being portrayed. The thing with the cat isn't really a good idea. If Rebecca had a cat when she was younger that would make sense.

As a musician she could be given something to 'fiddle' with.

They've focused on memory loss and some confusion but not on any of the other symptoms. She's a very neat and sanitised version of a patient with dementia.

Incontinence? Aggression? Speech/swallow?

Anyway....

I think that it was good to see Jack being an idiot not getting up with the babies or dealing with a poonami but Rebecca was too passive with him. Just eye rolling and getting on with it looking beautiful- so unrealistic.

Blossomtoes · 13/05/2022 15:04

Oh Lord, just watched it and I’m a soggy mess. That brought back my mum’s last few months so vividly. It’s sanitised because that’s how it is when you hand the basics of care over to someone else and can revert to being a son/daughter again. It reminded me so much of the way I could be with my mum after I bit the bullet and decided she needed to live in a care home. Those last few months were precious.

Thankfully her personality didn’t change, we didn’t have to deal with aggression, she could speak and swallow to the end and the incontinence wasn’t my problem.

Isthatarealname · 13/05/2022 15:34

Glad I found this thread. I don't know anyone who watches TIU.

I found yesterdays quite emotional, maybe because I was holding 2 year old DS whilst he was asleep and just watching Rebecca doing all the childcare. Very fitting seeing as I think its Mothers Day around now in the US.

I don't really understand the time frame, I work it out that Kevin and Sophie live with Rebecca in the new cabin for about 5 years before the end, but they all seem to age much more than that!

Someone mentioned Annie, She picks Deja up to go to the cabin at the end (and we find out Deja is pregnant) I think she was around Uni age but can't remember if they gave much detail on what she is doing with herself.

I remember Toby being really depressed in the flash forward episodes, which is why I always thought Kate died but not sure what that was about! He seems pretty happy now. I hope we don't end up with a Jack flashback filler episode because we don't really need 2 episodes for Rebecca to die do we?

Moaningturtle1 · 13/05/2022 16:17

Have we seen 2 baby Jack concerts? One smaller one in a bar/club that Toby and new wife and Kate and Philip (?) are at, and also a huge arena concert?

Yes. Definitely.

AnnesBrokenSlate · 13/05/2022 16:45

Yes, there were two baby Jack concerts. The one with his parents and their new partners standing at the bar in a smaller club, and one where he went on stage at a big arena with his wife/gf backstage.

I don't mind their portrayal of dementia and they worked closely with dementia charities on the storyline. We have dementia in the family and luckily none of my relatives were aggressive. They were forgetful, confused, disoriented but they were able to swallow and speak until the end. I've also worked with dementia patients so know that's not always the case.

Pinkcadillac · 13/05/2022 19:14

I'm so glad I've found this thread! I ended up watching the last episode on Disney+ last night.

I have also watched NBC's preview for next week and something doesn't add up.They show the gathering at the house for Rebecca's goodbye and the children are all sort of 9-12 years old.

But in the flash forward we had several seasons ago of Rebecca's death, Jack was almost an adult, wasn't he? I'm confused. Could there be two deaths to come? Kate and Rebecca?

EasterIssland · 13/05/2022 19:18

Gaspingandleaping · 13/05/2022 16:43

Yes. Definitely.

Yes. But was this before or after Rebeca passing away as we don’t know when it happened
I’ve seen a video for next week and once again Kate isn’t there
