Did Kevin and Sophie have any children together? It didn't appear as though they did unless I missed this?

sunshineandshowers40 · 26/05/2022 22:14

I really enjoyed it. It made me think that I do need to enjoy the now and not always look to the future. I love Randall, he was on top form, he annoyed me for a couple of seasons. Also love Kate and Toby's post divorce relationship. Love Beth too, actually I love them all!

No.

I thought it was perfect - the humdrum of daily life with kids. And how that was the same from generation to generation. Loved the Toby bit, he was always my favourite.

And the point about who they consider their family, my ex DP would definitely say that - I always said to him that I never felt like I’d be “his family” as his primary family would always his siblings, his second family was his DCs, and I might scrape in as a 3rd family if I was lucky! If I say I’m having a family meal, it’s me and my DCs. For him that would be his siblings and his kids, in that order! He also lost a parent as a teen and I wonder if that has an impact on who you feel closest to later on in life. You don’t get to grow away from that family set up naturally.

I loved seeing Rebecca and Jack back together. Love Miguel but R&J are meant to be. He’s flawed of course, but I love him. Now I just have to start from the beginning and watch it all again!

Randall has often annoyed me and when it showed him trying to write the eulogy at the start I though uh uh, I'm not going to enjoy this. I was glad to be spared the eulogies and found the exchanges with William and Deja moving. My Gran died a few months ago and I was so lucky to have her in my life until I was 45 - what William was saying about the purity of a grandparent's love really struck a chord and started me blubbing. I could have done without the presidential thing though.

I really liked the swing pushing scene. My Dad died a few months after I became a parent and I always think of him when I push my children and repeat what he used to say to me as a child 'I'm going to push you as high as a plum pudding in the sky' (which I think was something his Dad said).

That's what I'll miss about This is Us. So many dramas are just so focused on romantic love and I think that the way that they portrayed family life and love really struck a chord.

I was surprised by the picture your family part. I am v close to my Mum and 3 siblings but would always picture my children first (I am single).

I wish they had done a bit of s flash forward, just to show that they stuck to what they said and didn't 'drift'. I think there could have been a nice future Thanksgiving scene set to music with all of them there. Deja and Malik with their son. Could have planned around so we see a prospectus for the 'Pearson International School of Arts for the Blind', some 'Vote Randal Pearson 20??' badges etc, etc.

Agree, that would have been a lovely ending too.

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 26/05/2022 23:44

The actual final scene caught me out, as though it had finished accidentally. I get that it was in reference to Randall taking in his family life, just as Jack had done, but really it was a strange end scene.

Theblacksheepandme · 27/05/2022 00:07

@dimples76
William and Deja never met.

I think @dimples76 meant Randall's separate exchanges with Deja and William.

Really disappointed in the last two episodes.

I blubbed each episode of this past series but the last two were so crap. I didn’t want all the gumpf, I wanted big fat ugly tears, I wanted to reflect on my own parents, life and death and family. I found the characters more unlikeable than ever, except the old uncle and Kate’s first husband. I’d have liked to have seen the grandchildren growing up, to see the big 3 older…. I just feel they pulled all these emotional strings then let them go at the end. I didn’t watch this to feel good, I watched it to sob about long passed family, about long lost childhood and impending old age.

so disappointed. So tacky.

CHiSOCG · 27/05/2022 07:06

i didn’t get Randall’s exchange with Deja over her having a Grandson. Black women here black women there comment. As his mother is white. Tess and the youngest haven’t been on much and it’s been very focussed on Deja. I just don’t think that would have been the Randall we know’s reaction.

They’re trying to make him a bit Obama like and Beth Michelle O like.

I’m not sure of the exchange between Toby & Kate. I think Toby may have thought those things but never actually said them to Kate. He was a proud man.

sonsmum · 27/05/2022 08:25

I will miss this show, and it's corny little lessons.
You did catch that when the big 3 were on the porch Randal mentioned Rebecca grabbed his hand really hard at the end. Then at the show end, Rebecca grabbed Jacks hand really hard shortly after the 'hey' and said this is love (or she said something similar) essentially to show the love flowing through the generations.
They tied it all up nicely, they were a great cast and it was a great show!

Yeah, there wasn't enough Phillip in this episode... he would have surely lit it up?

😂😂😂😂

I agree - that shocked me. Surely most people, once they have children think of them first. I thought the episode was pretty dull, more preaching from on high by St.Jack. He was so exhausting! Didn't like how pleased Randall was by "finally having a boy". So much death and misery in the world caused by the pursuit of male progency. Do they tell you that early in pregnancy in the US what the sex of the baby is? In the Uk it is at the 20 week scan - less likely to abort for sex selection at that stage and more definite.

She would have had a NIPT, which is pretty much the standard in most countries. They emailed me my results a few days after I had the test, at 10 weeks. It can include the sex of the baby if you want to know.

WithAnXXHere · 27/05/2022 10:24

Yeah, I hope Phillip gets a spin-off

Doubleraspberry · 27/05/2022 11:09

WithAnXXHere · 27/05/2022 10:24

Yeah, I hope Phillip gets a spin-off

That would be one of the oddest programmes ever and I would be there for it, watching through my fingers.

On the other hand, who would have predicted the success of Frasier? Maybe he is the next greatest TV character of all time.

Gaspingandleaping · 27/05/2022 11:44

I want a spin off with Jack. I'd love to see his rise to success and his own growth.

drwitch · 27/05/2022 11:52

No I think it has to based round the cabin - Cassidy and Nick etc. -Weird fact the cabin was the same as filmed in the Good Place (where the stoner who worked out the rules of the after life lived - the one that drank his own wee because he did not want to use any scarce resource).
A this is us/good place mash up would be good

Eleanor telling Kate "Ya Basic"

ThatNewGirl · 27/05/2022 13:24

Just finished watching the final two episodes, I've loved it. I'm really going to miss the show.
However I can't believe how Kyle was barely mentioned the whole way through. I really thought they'd acknowledge him at the end.

BinBandit · 27/05/2022 15:13

The difficulty with any spin offs is that the show is already in the future by the end and showing the grandchildren as grown up in anything more than glimpses gives a bit of a problem. I think this is much of the reason that it had to end imo.

Planker · 27/05/2022 15:54

Well I’m a red eyed blubbering mess

i can see how some have issues with the way some of the storylines were handled but overall it was amazingly well done

I didn’t know what to expect and had these final three lined up to watch as have been away.

loved it 😍

kimwexlerfan · 27/05/2022 16:18

Would have been nice to finish with Adult baby Jacks concert! I still believe it was Randall's Inauguration Day and nothing will change my mind on that 😂

OrangeBall · 27/05/2022 17:44

I found it a bit meh at the end though I didn't find it as focused as some others on specific people

I did kind of feel we could have stretched it to a few more episodes - to see how the kids panned out for example

Loved loved the Toby scene. Having been through a divorce myself I really related but I also thought cleverly done and no more of that annoying British twat (forgot his name!).

I will miss it massively. For ages it's made my Thursday commute home worthwhile as I watched it on the way back home on the train!

RoofFlower · 27/05/2022 18:01

I was underwhelmed by the last episode. I too wanted to sob and feel emotional but I just didn’t. It was a bit boring but overall I love This Is Us and don’t know what I’m going to watch now?
Need a good drama. Any suggestions?
