I loved it. I got through several tissues! I don't feel it was an anticlimax. It just reflected the gentle rhythm and cycle of life. It felt complete. I love that Kevin has grown into the man that Rebecca always knew he could be.

Just seen it. Bit of an anti-climax. However, I don't understand the disappointment that Miguel was somehow treated worse than Jack. The point was that Jack was the real love of her life not Miguel. She didn't divorce Jack - he died in horrible circumstances. If Jack never died, she would never have been with Miguel. However, Rebecca was the real love of Miguel's life - that wasn't Rebecca's fault, it was just Miguel's feelings . Unless I have misunderstood, the way that the writers have dealt with this in fact very common as to what happens with second marriages when a spouse has died in tragic circumstances and totally unexpectedly. My grandmother adored my grandfather but he died while they were in their early 30s in the Cyprus war of 1974 and she went onto to marry a lovely guy in her early 40s but you could tell that the love of her life "the one" was alway my grandfather. There was nothing wrong with that - my dad alway said they were so happy but the "the one" was her first husband

Usually people with dementia remember far back memories but whenever Rebecca had struggles with her nurse or woke up alone she’d shout for Miguel not Jack.

Housewife2010 · 26/05/2022 14:46

Only minor criticism was that when Rebecca woke up in the first scene she was wearing mascara, eyebrow pencil and lipstick.
But apart from that, I thought it was a beautiful episode and my face is tight with tears.

SynchOrSwim · 26/05/2022 14:51

I wish they had done a bit of s flash forward, just to show that they stuck to what they said and didn't 'drift'. I think there could have been a nice future Thanksgiving scene set to music with all of them there. Deja and Malik with their son. Could have planned around so we see a prospectus for the 'Pearson International School of Arts for the Blind', some 'Vote Randal Pearson 20??' badges etc, etc.

SynchOrSwim · 26/05/2022 14:56

Also did I make anyone else feel a bit shit about their life? 😄

Kevin was honouring his dad with a construction company hiring war vets. Jack living Rebecca's dream by becoming a success musician. Randall clearly heading towards a presidency! They are all pretty wealthy! I have an office job with a below average salary. Yay.

All those kids and grandkids there when she died. All the stuff about what you pass on. I have one kid. If she doesn't have any I guess I'm kinda done! 😄

Housewife2010 · 26/05/2022 15:00

Adult Deja looks and mannerisms are so similar to her teenage one. They have cast all the differing ages of the characters so well.

SynchOrSwim · 26/05/2022 15:15

Yes! Older Deja's voice was spot on!

That annoyed me too! MM is beautiful but I’m not convinced they weren’t false eyelashes!!

ColdHappyBap · 26/05/2022 11:42

I thought that was a really blah ending. Too much Randall. Too much flashback.

Couldn't agree more. Too much Randall and the very end was weird. A bit disappointed with that ending. I blubbed my way through it but the ending caught me out!

Netaporter · 26/05/2022 15:55

I think last week’s episode was so emotional this week was always going to be a A bit of an anticlimax. Loved seeing future Jack as a Dad. Cannot believe how identical future and teenage Deja are!

thinking about the train featuring the barman doctor from ep 1, I decided to rewatch the first ever episode again. As with the end, The first was heavily focussed on Randall. Love the fact that the character Maddison was listed in the credits as ‘not really fat rich girl’ 😂

MM was wearing eyelash extensions in the bed scene 😢

Poor Miguel. Fucked over so she goes back to Jack.

How sad for the kids and partners that the Big Three think of their siblings and parents as family before their own kids and partners.

It is a shame for Miguel, he was lovely but on balance it would be better to spend eternity in bed with Milo Ventimiglia.

Completely agree about how weird the family comment was! Surely you think of your own family once you've had kids?

The casting has been spot on, you would actually think tess and deja were the same actresses.
Nice episode but I wish it had been a bit more Big 3 centred rather than focussing on Randall but I suppose it was just a way to bring in the circle of life and he had the oldest kids. I would have liked the closing shot to have been the whole family.

Yeah I thought that was weird. I do know people who think like that though.

I liked Beth's bit about Randall going to trace Miguel's family, or travelling from parent's grave to parent's grave etc. And I liked Nicky's bit to Kevin.

TheGlitterati · 26/05/2022 11:19

I’ve just watched on Disney too.

i agree it was an anti climax after the last few episodes but I think it was ‘nice’. I sobbed all the way through more because I find what they say about clawing that time back really poignant, trying to be the best parent you can be, enjoying your children etc. it’s been the main theme all along and it resonates with me.

an incredible show with some amazing writers, I’m sad it’s over but I’m pleased they ended it before it turned to shit like so many others (looking at you greys anatomy).

This is exactly how I feel. I've just (2 weeks ago) had DD2 and the stuff about trying to hold on to time, remembering little moments really got me. I blame post pregnancy hormones I think.

And I agree about greys anatomy - I've spent too many years watching it to stop now, but I'm just waiting for it to slowly limp to a finale.

TheGlitterati · 26/05/2022 18:31

Me too with greys. I can’t give up on it whilst it’s running but I really wish they’d end it.

cardboardbox24 · 26/05/2022 18:57

I agree that the comment about family was really weird.

I also didn't like the final shot. Why was it of Jack? That annoyed me.

I thought the ending was ok. It was nice in the sense it was complete and life goes on. I completely agree that I don't get the disappointment for Miguel. Jack was her first love. It was as it should be and agree with the post quoted. Jack was everything. Father to the big three. I did find the flash backs a bit boring but in the end, the episode felt right. I didn't cry at it. I felt the message was life moves on.
What I didn't get was the weird message at the end. That somehow she would be a part of the big three. No idea what that was all about since she is dead.

AnnesBrokenSlate · 26/05/2022 19:50

I really liked it. I didn't cry at last week's episode but I wept a lot at this one. I think because it was about the mundane, about not knowing which moments will be remembered and which forgotten, which lessons will stick and which won't; how something that seems insignificant can resonate through the years and down generations.
Kate's worry about them drifting resonated with me ... I'm not sure about them imagining their siblings rather than their partners and children - but twins and triplets do have a more intense relationship than other siblings.
Also, loved the point about Jack and Rebecca meeting in the bar - relationships are so random and then you reach a point where you think, it could only ever have been that way. Sad😭
I told my DS I was watching the final episode and he said 'I don't want to watch it with you but if you cry and need a hug, just let me know' 😭
I think This Is Us has been so good at capturing that level of deep affection and love in family relationships especially between parents and DCs. And how difficult it is to let go, or transition.

Lurleene · 26/05/2022 19:58

Ah, I am a mess. I loved it, I'm glad it was low key, it was perfect. The best part for me was having my favourite version of Randall back, I've missed him ❤.

everylittlehelp5 · 26/05/2022 20:15

I was fine until the William/Randall scene. After that I just couldn't stop blubbing.

I liked the ending, If Rebecca had gone to Miguel at the end I'd have been disappointed. The whole show has always been about Rebecca and Jack.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/05/2022 21:02

Have to say I thought last ever episode was a bit naff

runs very fast 😂

too much on the past. About shaving. The bloody donkey

wish they had showed more of the big 3 kids grown up

we only saw jack old. And briefly

wouid have been nice to see the twins and hailey

possibly even deja son

Halfway through I was a bit meh about it all but by the end I had a little cry. It could have gone on forever. I kind of feel like they could have done it differently but they'll always feel like there are loose threads but that's life. And for that I think it was well done.
I have to watch it all again though!

Whhaaaattt!! I thought it was the same actress! 🙀

XelaM · 26/05/2022 22:05

Nicky and Beth were the only standout parts of this final episode!

WithAnXXHere · 26/05/2022 22:08

Yeah, there wasn't enough Phillip in this episode... he would have surely lit it up?

Gaspingandleaping · 26/05/2022 22:09

I thought it was really dreary.

Although yes I thought the adult deja was amazing too.

Anyway another vote for anticlimax here after the Train.
