The Marcus storyline confused me! the fact that deja was talking about her partner but didn't mention it was Malik and then it went straight to Marcus working in the lab I just assumed it was Deja's man!
Was very odd

AbsoluteYawns · 20/05/2022 09:23

What an incredible show. I also wondered about Kyle and hope he's in the last episode.
Amazing cast and writing.

Orpheline · 20/05/2022 09:59

I didn't want to have to think that hard, and work out who's who, at the end of the series. It had seemed to be going back to the initial episodes, where you just got carried away on a wave of emotions.

Moaningturtle1 · 20/05/2022 10:21

It was Beth’s goodbye that made me cry, talking about motherhood and how she’ll take Randall the rest of the way. Showing that motherhood doesn’t end until you die.

I was sad Miguel didn’t get longer, he deserved more. My theory on that is that it was Rebecca’s journey, current elderly Rebecca dying of Alzheimer’s. Her earlier memories and relationships would have been the clearest in her mind, the later part of her life would be jumbled and possibly forgotten. She might not remember how important Miguel was to her Sad

Figgygal · 20/05/2022 10:24

Also wish they hadnt introduced the marcus story, the kate drama and didnt do miguel wrong AGAIN

Blossomtoes · 20/05/2022 11:31

I think it’s as simple as Jack was the love of Rebecca’s life. It wouldn’t have mattered what Miguel had done, given the choice between he and Jack, she’d always have chosen Jack. I’d have found anything else unbelievable. It may not be fair but since when has life been fair?

MardyOldGoth · 20/05/2022 11:42

OK, so if afterlife Rebecca doesn't want afterlife Miguel, can afterlife me have him please?

I think she and Miguel had said goodbye vto each other already.

This is a good article about the series. Interesting to see Milo's view that he didn't like that Jack cut Nicky off. And the Kate actress didn't want Katoby to split up.

Brilliant article. Funny and poignant. I laughed out loud at the slump in the sale of stock pots. Didn’t that killer stock pot come from some old couple’s cellar. Could have gone the other way with everyone rushing out to upgrade 😄

And what did happen to Audio?

Blossomtoes · 20/05/2022 15:03

Thank you for sharing that @AnnesBrokenSlate.

AnnesBrokenSlate · 20/05/2022 15:53

It was a long read but I really enjoyed it so I'm glad you did too.

It made me rethink the ending. I think the point of the train was to show that Rebecca's main role in life wasn't being Jack's wife or Miguel's - it was being a mother. So William was there because he 'gave' her Randall and the doctor was there because he 'gave' her Kate and Kevin. Little Rebecca was there because adult Rebecca carried her and her own family's influences through to the Big Three.

The six series run sometimes felt focused on Jack because he was the hero and the constant ghost at the table ... but Rebecca was the one laying the table and keeping the family together over all the years.

I agree. The way she gives Miguel a confused smile when he says she's his favourite person. I think the whole train sequence is the dream of an old lady with Alzheimer's. She sees herself as young Rebecca, she's back in that time period. Even the adult triplets are mid 30's triplets in her dream, she doesn't see their oldest versions because she's suffering from advanced Alzheimer's at that point in their lives. Her relationship with Miguel hasn't happened yet in her reality

Gaspingandleaping · 20/05/2022 17:13

I cried proper fat tears at this. I thought it was beautifully done.

Research seems to indicate that auditory input still seems to reach people with dementia. Long after speech has gone, music (and voices) seem to be recognised Smile

I also thought Kyle would have been present on the train, and Miguel needed more air time.

I guess the story was woven around the triplets though so Jack being their Dad meant he was the person Rebecca 'ended' with.

Oh that’s a really lovely way of explaining it @AnnesBrokenSlate makes me rethink it too.

It is. That makes perfect sense to me too.

I laughed when Kev and Randall had the facetime call with Kate on the plane and she said she shouldn't have gone to London and they told her that her curriculum had gone international. there's nothing bigger than that!! Hmm

Yes, that whole Kate curriculum thing is ridiculous. Was it not enough that she was excelling at teaching blind kids music? The same with Randall becoming a Senator. 🙄

This. It was always Jack, like it or not.

WithAnXXHere · 21/05/2022 07:41

What a beautiful episode. Mandy Moore has knocked this role out of the park.

It was great to see little Annie again too! She's always been my favourite!

diddl · 21/05/2022 07:50

It wasn't so much that it was Jack at the end, but that Miguel barely figured at all.

pastabest · 21/05/2022 08:54

To look at it another way though Miguel got to live out his days with Rebecca. They had each other for the rest of their lives until Miguel died. Miguel and Rebecca didn't have unfinished business. Their story was lived to the full and completed.

Rebecca and Jack's story wasn't finished. It was cut short abruptly. Why shouldn't they be the ones who get to finish their story together at the end in death.

I saw it as Rebecca being able to say goodbye to Jack rather than a snub to Miguel.

ChuckBerrysBoots · 21/05/2022 09:40

I agree re:Miguel’s short appearance being reflective of her Alzheimer’s. I really liked the train analogy. We must be really soppy gits in this house as both DH and I shed a tear - I think mainly at the thought of having to say goodbye to our own mothers one day.

Itjustgetsbetter · 21/05/2022 10:19

I cried at this one. The writing is really beautiful. I’ll always love Miguel though probably more so than Jack.

FlorianImogen · 21/05/2022 11:19

I must be very slow as I dont know who the family were in the car accident, almost lost their son the night Jack dies?
