Really random question but near the start of the episode, Randall is looking at a picture of him and Rebecca. Next to it is what looks like a script or something. In a glass display box. Called Hell 400 or something? Anyone know what this is? I’ve got a vague memory of something like William’s poetry?

Pl242 · 19/05/2022 21:12

Also adult Tess hugging adult Deja. Tess looks like a foot taller than her!

I don't think there can be a spin-off, it would have to be in the future which is hard to do. The deathbed is around 2025 so Jacks concert must be 2035?

Netaporter · 19/05/2022 21:28

i’m still high-fiving myself at predicting the appearance of the Caboose (a word no one had heard of before this series 😂)

glad Kate made it. Loved Toby’s ‘you loved me best’ tho 😂

sad Miguel did all of the heavy lifting and then got less time than Beth at the end 😢

can’t see how this gets any better next week…

Pl242 · 19/05/2022 21:31

I’m watching it for the second time! Loving all the little details. Just spotted young Jack’s red welly boots (from the episode when he falls in the park) behind Miguel on the train.

Newpuppymummy · 19/05/2022 21:45

kyle should have been on the train. Agree Miguel should have had a much bigger role. Also think it would have been a nice touch if Randall’s birth mum was there

It can’t be 2025, that would make the big three 45. This suggests it’s 2034 which makes them 54.

Hahaha about caboose!

SapatSea · 19/05/2022 22:02

Gutted for Miguel. 'Ole Dr. K got a bigger spot in her journey through her life.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 19/05/2022 22:07

I so wish that Miguel and Jack’s roles on the train had been swapped.

Can anyone explain the connection between Marcus and Malik? Are they the same person? What am I missing here?

I thought the Marcus storyline was showing the effect you have on people's lives, and a circle if life type thing. Something Jack said became a catchphrase for another family, and the son who survived at the same moment Jack died went on to cure Alzheimer's.

Marcus was in the hospital the same night Jack died. The Dr went up to treat him and when he came back, Jack was dead.
Jack was talking to Marcus's dad and told him the "something resembling lemonade" thing which is what Marcus and his siblings talked about at the restaurant.
Marcus then started off researching cancer cures and from the end it seemed like he'd had a breakthrough in Alzheimer's treatment.

I'm not sure if the implication was that Jack died because Marcus lived (ie the Dr could only be with one of them).

Bellagio40 · 19/05/2022 22:33

There’s no connection between Marcus and Malik

Clymene · 19/05/2022 22:39

I found the Marcus SL annoying and distracting. I don't want a load of new characters being involved in this episode. It was about Rebecca. I didn't want to have to figure out who this other random family were.

Her family is big enough and quite complicated as it is!

Clymene · 19/05/2022 22:40

And I agree that Kyle should have been on the train. I don't know about Jack. If he hadn't died, she would have never got together with Miguel ...

kimwexlerfan · 19/05/2022 22:44

Yes you are right. I was out by 10 years. I think they overshot ageing Kevin and Randall too. Randall looks 64.

JustDanceAddict · 19/05/2022 23:12

I loved the train idea - thought that was so clever. Tbh I didn’t think about Kyle, but definitely thought the Miguel ‘catch up’ was far too short.
i didn’t cry, we all
knew she was going to die so nothing came as a big shock. I knew she’d hang on until Kate arrived though.
The Marcus thing was weird, did it mean Jack died so he could live to research Alzheimer’s meds that ultimately benefitted Rebecca. That’s all a bit ‘sliding doors’ for me.
Jack still may not have survived the heart attack even if the main Dr was there so not sure that really fits that narrative.

2fallsfromSSA · 19/05/2022 23:40

No I don't Think it meant Jack died so Marcus could live. Just showed the impact of words and interaction on another family. When life gives you lemons / make lemonade. When your cancer drugs don't work, see if they will help another disease.

2fallsfromSSA · 19/05/2022 23:42

I loved the train idea too. I was with my friend when she died 18 months ago and it was comforting to think of her passing as a journey like this.

alpenguin · 20/05/2022 05:04

There was I tissues at the ready and thoroughly disappointed in the ending. An amazingly well made and emotional show I cried most episodes this final season and it was rushed through the last few episodes. The train one was devoid of any real emotion. So disappointed… and a bit relieved that I’m. It a gibbering wreck after it

diddl · 20/05/2022 07:57

It was such a good idea but overall I hated it!

The "drama" of Kate flying for hours & will she make it?🙄

And she's setting International curricula now?🙄

Sadly it was always going to be Jack at the end.

Couldn't Miguel have been the one guiding/supporting her through as he had done in life?

I mean he literally gave his life for her & for what?

What was the point-to just "fill in" until Kevin was able to retire??!!

RedMake88 · 20/05/2022 08:03

I did wonder about Kyle. I also missed Miguel (I only went to the loo for a quick wee so shows how small his part was in it all!). I like the filler story. The shock of Jack dying although I’ve seen it before was the saddest part again.

The future bits with all the family members saying goodbye - I’m glad Toby got to speak to Rebecca. I imagine as a cast it was very emotional but it didn’t hit me in the same way as the Miguel episode. Miguel is the unsung hero in This Is Us. Maybe not so unsung because I think we all recognise the role he played.

I get it had to be Jack at the end but I do think Miguel should have had a bigger role on the train. It would have been heartbreaking to see Miguel hand Rebecca over to Jack though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/05/2022 08:24

Also kate didn’t look older compared to grey Kevin and Randall

This is a good article about the series. Interesting to see Milo's view that he didn't like that Jack cut Nicky off. And the Kate actress didn't want Katoby to split up.
