Binged it, loved it, binged it again to Shazam all the music!!

Anyone else watched it?

Gay, geeky teen falls in love with supposedly straight, popular, rugby playing lad. Just very sweet high school drama.

This is the most adorable tv show.

My daughter (13) has seen it and thinks it's good. My straight son (16) has a variety of lgbt+ friends in his close friend group but won't watch it because it's a romance, he hates all romance.

I loved it so much I read the books on the Webtoon app.
I have seen it twice and set to watch it a third time. It's such a heartwarming and lovely romance. Reminds me of my flirtations at school, and having crushes on boys, and sitting next to them in class.

This better win all the awards going!

Oh and my recognising Nick Nelson was when Kit played the boy in Get Santa!!

I guess its because hiring children, and making the actors match the ethnicity and sexual identity of the character they are playing reduces the pool of actors available. Joe Locke however has done an amazing job, you wouldn’t know it was his first professional part.

Harry, the bully, is a straight white middle class boy. I don't think the acting world is short of them.

The cast member they had most trouble finding was Elle - they were looking for a young trans woman of colour who could act. They got very lucky with Yasmin Finney who did a great job in her first professional acting role.

SarahAndQuack · 07/05/2022 18:13

I didn't think Harry was wooden - to me it seemed convincing, as teenage boys in that sort of situation often do sound very like that - they're basically playing a role, aren't they? Especially bits like when he says 'I see it's banter, the lads see it's banter' - he's trying it out to see how it sounds.

I actually thought the worst bit of 'acting' was the voiceover from the headteacher at sports day - I assume from the voice if was Stephen Fry though I've not checked, and I just thought it jarred in tone with the rest of the piece.

But anyway. I loved it. Definitely bittersweet though - I would have loved to see something like that when I was the characters' ages.

I binged watched four episodes last night and then the last four episodes this morning.

I loved it!!!! (39 year old married woman) 😂

Will there be a second series???

FussyLittleFucker · 08/05/2022 23:13

Loving this, watching it with my teens. Echoes of Schitts Creek...a similar squishy sort of vibe Grin

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 09/05/2022 19:26

Dd and I both enjoyed the series, I didn't pick up on the ED though and I'm usually hyper sensitive to anything food related as my teen dd has an ED. There were plenty of scenes of him eating breakfast and lunch and I only remember him once refusing dinner when he was v upset.

TigerLilyTail · 10/05/2022 05:52

I think the ED storyline must come up in later books. There were small hints in the series but they were very ambiguous, so I don't think anyone would have picked up on that if they hadn't read the later books.

I think series 2 is still uncertain. Series 1 was very popular and I guess it didn't cost a lot of money to make, but it's always so hard to tell with Netflix whether they will renew stuff or not.

ISpyCobraKai · 10/05/2022 08:11

It is in the later books.
I'd be v suprised if it wasn't renewed, so many people a similar age to me like it, and that's right up from my friend's 15yr old onwards!

PaddlingLikeADuck · 10/05/2022 08:28

Are the books called Heart Stopper too?
I might go and see if I can find them on my kindle.

Ndd135632 · 10/05/2022 08:32

No need, you can read them online. If you want to pick up where the TV series left off, to to 4-1

I just re-watched it and realised I have a major crush on Nick Nelson….I find it very hard to drag my eyes away from that lovely torso as his school uniform shirt strains over it……

Then I googled him and realised he’s only 18/19 years old and I felt quite ashamed of myself 😬

My husband thought the same, when I pointed out that he was 17 when it filmed he was somewhat worried! He is very much the type he had when he was a teenager.

17!!!!

Oh God!

I’ve always thought the “school girl fantasy” that some men have to be very odd as it sexualised the image of school age girls, yet here I am perving and fantasising over a 17 year old guy in a school uniform.

I can never watch the series again now 😂

sayanythingelse · 10/05/2022 16:07

I binged this last night and loved it. Another one who thought Nick Nelson was quite cute before realising he was 17 whilst filming. We're all off to jail.

Also, it's interesting to learn that the actress who played Elle is trans. I'd wrongly assumed she was an afab actress playing a trans teen, so that's great.

I might have to rewatch 😅

If there was a group of 30+ year old men having a mini perv/crush on a 17 year old actress then I think it would be considered quite grim so I guess we are no better 😂

That upper body though in his tight school shirt…..I don’t know how I can move on from that……

As much as I want to watch it again I’m n ot going to allow myself. I felt bad enough drooling over the character when I thought he was 19 years old…..so now that I’ve learnt he was 17 I am going to bury my head in the sand and pretend Nick Nelson doesn’t exist 😂

Simonjt · 10/05/2022 17:05

To further your discomfort, he turned 17 about four weeks before filming began 🤣

We’re going to start reading the graphic novel tonight.

PaddlingLikeADuck · 10/05/2022 17:12

Shit!!!

I think the only option, rather than never watch it again and pretend Nick Nelson doesn’t exist, is to delete this thread and pretend this doesn’t exist instead 😂

That way I can be left to my fantasies in the belief that he’s at least 25 😂

I'm going to go against the grain here. I've watched 4 episodes and while it is very sweet and I do like, I'm not loving it. I just don't know why. When I watched Its A Sin I just loved that and was completely obsessed with it like others are of this show. I can't explain it but by the end of the series I might have completely changed my mind.

It took me some time too. You’ve got to take it for what it is - kids falling in love. I found it a grower. Also have the music on.

tactum · 10/05/2022 20:47

I have absolutely adored this like nothing I've watched in years.
And like others I have a definite massive crush on nick- I know he's 30 years younger than me, but jeez the way he looks at charlie and smiles......I am lost!
Bloody love it, such a positive message for all kids out there, just love it!!

SleepCheeseBeer · 10/05/2022 21:00

40 year old straight woman here, I bloody loved it. The angst was so perfect and I fell in love with both the lead actors. Binged it.

NKffffffffcc22478cX127909a92b9 · 10/05/2022 21:06

49 year old woman and with a 16 year old son…..am slightly obsessed with the series but especially Nick and Charlie….and especially Nick. Get a grip woman!!

NKffffffffcc22478cX127909a92b9 · 10/05/2022 21:08

yes the uniform definitely is the best outfit on him…drool…..!

SarahAndQuack · 10/05/2022 21:27

I ... do find the drooling over 17 year olds a bit icky, sorry.
