@EthelTheAardvark

I can't remember why Rose and James couldn't have children - could someone remind me?

Didn't they get pregnant then had a miscarriage (at end of last season as middle sister discovered she was pregnant). Was the low sperm count information told anywhere?

@HalleLouja

The lovely dress Hannah was wearing was unfortunately not on the website.

If I had to hazard a guess I'd say Roland Mouret or, for a cheaper option, The Fold. But no amount of googling has found it!

I wasn’t sure if I’d watched series 1 and 2.

I liked it but found it a bit unbelievable, so the main character is a family lawyer, so’s her mum etc in the same law firm and they all know each other?! I could tell something was going to happen to James too which was a pity as I liked his character.

What’s happening with the woman with the baby? Is she a single mum? The man she’s having a fling with is he gay and in a relationship with the black lawyer?

Loving the outfits and houses.

@A580Hojas

I'm actually infuriated at what a shocking load of utter BOBBINS that was. Cliche-ridden, wholly predictable and drivelly NONSENSE. Is this what I pay my licence fee for etc etc.

@A580Hojas - I have to say, I feel like you!

On the one hand I liked it because it was different and interesting but the family law stuff (I’ve worked in this area) no one signs divorce papers, finds papers that quickly in real life! And those cringey podcasts, maybe it’s a city law thing!

I haven’t seen the main female lead in that much that I recall but I did see and like her in an Inside No 9 episode.

All too predictable for me, knashing of teeth over husband’s new GF, husband wanting to ditch GF after she wants a baby was that right?!

I like the fact that Nathan and Hannah's house is beautiful but also full of the random crap people leave lying around.
It does annoy me that everyone flings their bag and shoes at bottom of the stairs when they come in. I've been expecting "fatal trip" to be major story line since Series 1

Main charachter always worked at POSH LAW firm (or had for a few years anyway pre start season 1), but her mum and sister worked for their family company and during season 2 there was a merger as the family company had a good name but had financial issues (i think).

Am I a totally unreasonable to hate Nathan's new gf?? Stupid man should have wrapped it up. Not many grown women get pregnant accidentally.
I know Hannah treated him like crap but I'm still on her side!

@burnoutbabe - ah that all makes sense re the law firm. I haven’t watched previous series - or I don’t think I have.

I must speak to real life lawyer friends and see if their lives are as incestuous as the ones in this series!

@TaraRhu - I hate Nathan’s new GF but not for the reasons you do, I just hated her spouting her rubbish about divorce to someone who practices and is living through divorce!

I found Nathan to be a bit of a wet blanket so is this how he’s meant to be?! Agreed he is unbelievably stupid not to have used protection or even pulled out (!) if he didn’t want GF to get pregnant. Let’s hope if she continues the pregnancy he steps up to provide emotional and financial support for her (as well as his ex-wife and her DC).

The sister lawyers originally worked for the family lawyer firm run by the mum- then the eldest left and then the company she went to merged with the mother's as it was in financial difficulty.

Nina had a baby with an ex, who is a comic and left to make it big in LA and got back with his ex. Her gay lover is married to the Zander who owns the lawyer firm, i.e. is her employer.

did i recall wrongly? nathan was chucking Hannah;s affair with Christie in her face alot.

But didn't he get caught out for visiting a prostitute site? (can't recall if he said he went there for companionship??)

Though Hannah did sleep with Christie the night before the wedding too! was there some suggestion the back packer daughter may be his?

KillingMeDeftly · 05/04/2022 12:29

@burnoutbabe no, it was that Hannah found herself pregnant at the start of her marriage and had an abortion as she didn't know who the father was. I think!

The instant I saw his bike I said out loud "so he's dying in a bike crash then" - I did think they'd maybe be a bit more subtle about it and not thrust it into the first episode.

The whole family always being with each other and in each other's houses - just don't believe it. The whole family going to hospital FFS!

Nathan not mentioning his new partner would be coming to dinner, eh? It looked like it was just a drink between the two of them and then all of a sudden PARTY and new woman immediately making a tired old point about working mothers so everyone can feel sorry for Hannah?

Like I said ... rubbish. So annoying.

I think that Nathan was about the broach with Hannah the subject of his new relationship, then, a la The Archers, was prevented from doing so but the arrival, coincidentally, of all those other people. I find Hannah's response, her response to be played out through the rest of the series it would seem, to be vindictive and punish him, even though they both have agreed to end their marriage, to be out of character. She's a lot of things, but not, or hasn't been, that.

Wasn't Tyler American last season? He now sounds Irish. Perhaps the actor is, but he's not even bothering with a different accent anymore!

Report
Jourdain11 · 05/04/2022 14:24

I think Tyler was always Irish.

I'm not sure I find it believable that he and Nina would be continuing an affair 10 months later! His character seems different. In Season 2 he was a bastard on the surface and a good guy underneath; this season he seems Mr Nice on surface and I suspect he'll be a bastard underneath.

I thought they were setting up to do a bit of a Melanie vs NHD rivalry in S3, with Christie and Hannah's paralegal (Maggie?) crossing lines. I wonder if there were actor availability issues or sth with Covid regs. Incidentally, it seems that in Splitverse there Never Was Covid.

So sad to see James go, he and Rose were basically the only non-arseholes, and she was borderline. I can't believe Nathan would bring his new gf out to meet Hannah before even mentioning her, why would you do that??

I did like Ruth podcasting, that seems very her.

@Jourdain11 I think Melanie is in this season according to the trailer.

midsomermurderess · 05/04/2022 16:02

James was sweet, but the thing with drama, just see the Ancient Greeks, is that 'nice' people don't make good stories. And is anyone only an arsehole? Most seem to be a mixture of basically ok, sometimes areshole, depending on the circumstances.

It’s totally unrealistic that Hannah would have it so wrong that she was on the verge of saying shall we try again and that Nathan is in a relationship with someone that he has been seeing long enough that they have fallen pregnant and decided to keep it. And Nathan didn’t see fit to mention any of this before an evening out with all of them present. Also I wasn’t clear, did all the friends know about the new girlfriend? I got the impression they did which was spectacularly inappropriate from their ends also. Why would the friend be banging on about how great she was after witnessing all the awkwardness at the table??!

I’m not sure I really understand the spoiler ref the Action line announcement at the end. If it is that the female surgeon has what they are implying why would that mean she wants a divorce from her husband? Maybe I’m just being really dumb! 🤷‍♀️

I'm not married / divorced and didn't work in that area of law - so is it normal to have a clause in the agreement where you tell your ex about new partners for a couple of years? Was meant to be for the benefit of the children I think. Or maybe just a plot device!

The stand-up comedian father of Rose’s baby is played by the lovely Matthew Baynton, who plays the soppy/Romantic poet in Ghosts. He’s also in Horrible Histories and Yonderland.

I recently rewatched s1 & 2 to remind myself of the plots. I wish I hadn’t just watched the preview to s3, though, as it seems to have gone beyond episode 1.

I absolutely loved the first episode even though it was tragic. Bawled my eyes out. Do feel I may need to re-watch series 1 and 2 now though.

Started the second episode as only really get tv to myself on a tuesday morning for a couple of hours so can't always watch on a monday night, but tempted to try to just stick to 1 a week if I can so it's not over quickly!

Hope you aren’t feeling too bad.

Quick question I can’t remember James’s family as I wonder why his parents weren’t at the hospital. Yes I know seeing too much into it. But I can understand the family being with Rose in a crisis- mine would be but I didn’t get why James family wasn’t.

And I didn’t like the girlfriend either. Marking her territory I thought.

The girlfriend is Laura Pulver, who was in Sherlock. I thought she seemed familiar!!
