Has anyone else seen the trailers for this? I don't know whether I can bear to watch it or not. It looks sooooo wierd!!!!

OP posts:

ROFL at crumbs

I do actually want to follow this woman round, then "by mistake" squash a Flake into her baby's sleepsuit when she's not looking.

Maybe I'd interchange "Help me!" with "RRRRRAAAARRRRRRGGHHHHHHH!" as well, in a big deep voice.

pixiella · 02/01/2008 23:41

the lady who misses her grandson so got a baby doll made to look just like him?? very strange....he didn't die or anything he just went to live in new zealand - if you miss him....go visit ! christ !

Fubsy · 03/01/2008 00:08

Aw, I missed this - was it as good as that progeamme about elephants that paint and are in a band that was on 5 earlier?

ChipButty · 03/01/2008 09:35

I think I watched the whole show with my jaw on the floor. Unbelievable.

tiktok · 03/01/2008 09:49

I watched this utterly gobsmacked....I did think it was laugh-and-point-at-the-weirdos TV, though, and it made me feel uncomfortable.

Granny seemed a sad and kind lady at first, but there is more to this than meets the eye - NZ is not too far for annual visits or bi-annual visits, and they did not look too poor for this to be out of their reach. I didn't buy their explanation of why they didn't see daughter, Harry and husband off at the airport either ('because we didn't want Harry to see us upset')....they have had a major falling out, I suspect, and webcam and email access is all the daughter is allowing them. If she continues to wave 'baby Harry' in front of the webcam, then she's gonna risk having that avenue closed, too.

The woman with the 20-odd dolls seemed a jolly soul and benignly eccentric rather than anything else. She is 'well-known in the reborn community' - that internet, eh??!

Nails woman and her seriously creepy husband - aaaaaagh. What was she doing with the pram wheels? Washing and scrubbing them after every outing? WTF????

southeastastra · 03/01/2008 09:57

people are strange, i suppose if they're happy.

the woman who made the dolls was very talented.

SheikYerbouti · 03/01/2008 09:59

The poodle perm woman washed the pram wheels

I cannot get over this
And they putthem in car seats, the weirdos

I expectyed it to be sad talses of woman who couldb;t have kids, but now, twas freaks on display

libralady · 03/01/2008 10:16

I'm afraid I haven't had such a good laugh in ages. DH & I caught the last 20 minutes and couldn't believe our eyes. At one point I was crying as I was laughing so much and I think the real Harry summed it all up perfectly. 'It's a doll you numbnuts!'
Can't belive the nail and perm lady. Really think she needs to be sectioned for washing the pram wheels if nothing else.

MummyPenguin · 03/01/2008 10:19

It took a while for the whole Harry scenario to be revealed didn't it? At first, I thought, like others that Harry was the lady's Son who had died, then bit by bit it emerged that he's her Grandson who's emigrated to New Zealand. I agree with what someone else just said, and I said last night, there's definitely more too it than that. A big fall out perhaps, but I thought more like because she looked after him for so long, when his Mum was able to take over again, the Gran was probably too controlling and taking over Harry too much and the Mum felt pushed out. As it had happened, she'd met a fella from NZ and emigrating seemed like a good option.

When my DD (my firstborn) was a baby, she was the first grandchild for 15 years and my Mum was all over her like a rash and sometimes if Mum was holding her and I put my arms out for her Mum would pull her away from me and I used to feel quite pushed out.

As for all the women on the programme, well, definitely weird yes, but the conclusion I came to is that they're not hurting anyone else. They could be doing worse things. However, I can't condone the woman with 5 of the reborns (including the one that was 'injured') spending all that money on baby equipment, and not any old baby equipment at that, £75 bottle holders and Roberto Cavalli baby clothes when there's children in this country living in poverty and starving. As well as in other countries. That's wrong.

becklesparkle · 03/01/2008 10:19

Very odd programme.

The lady with loads just seemed like a doll collector to me (although the really tiny "as small as they can survive" doll was extra creepy) but the perm lady and the granny...!

They don't need dolls, they need therapy!

MummyPenguin · 03/01/2008 10:22

Ha ha - over 260 messages - somehow I knew this prog was going to be MN fodder...

I actually thought, going back to the real Harry, that it was a bit mean of his Mum and Stepdad not to bring him over a couple times a year to see the Gran. But then we don't know the circumstances.... she didn't mention being invited over for any holidays. That's sad.

Pennies · 03/01/2008 10:36

I missed it! Is it being repeated at all?

MummyPenguin · 03/01/2008 10:37

It may be on more4 at some point, I guess you'd have to keep scanning the listings.

Twinkie1 · 03/01/2008 10:43

God the lady with the chav hair was just fucking bonkers - think she probably went to Lakeside - as she comes from Bexleyheath way! - and got one of those pictures done with her hubbie that shows you what your kid will look like and it was so grossly ugly she dedcided against it!

What a complete nutter though! Paying to go to the states and buy a scary fake baby - and it coming smothered - I mean poor thing would have croaked it with the nappy over it's head!

Watched some of it in the middle of the night whilst caring for sick DS - just got to wait till he has a nap so can watch the rest - can't wait!

MummyPenguin · 03/01/2008 10:47

Yeah, why not just have the 'baby' posted to her house from America? She was trying to act like adoptive parents on those documentaries where you see them being filmed in their adoptive child's country waiting for the arrival of said adoptive child in a hotel.

Martha200 · 03/01/2008 10:54

I don't know how the blokes could tolerate such behaviour. My husband would march me to the clinic if I started behaving like that!!

I hope these ladies don't spend too much time either with the dolls in cars because can you imagine if they were in an accident, the time being wasted establishing they were not real.. or Police pulling over one lady because did you notice she put the carry cot in the car but had the baby been real would be illegal? Have visions of a lot of time being wasted.

I am glad the younger lady does not have her own children, she seemed too much of a perfectionist besides her fantasy were a bit naive at times, newborns don't suddenly roll over and crawl off after a labour

Have a feeling now in 2 weeks time will be out and about reassuring people the new baby in my pram IS real seems a lot of people watched this!

Twinkie1 · 03/01/2008 11:38

Just found this one on ebay (thought may buy DD one as she is desperate for sister - DS not cutting it and I can't be doing with ever having anymore - DS more than enough for me to handle) - how creepy is it - doesn't look too alive to me either!

Really think DH wouod go bonkers if I spent so much on a doll though - and having ti support their head - I mean what happens if you don't - does it fall off?

lucykate · 03/01/2008 12:02

the woman with the curly hair is insane

does anyone know, if she goes out to work at all, or is she a sahm?

thegrowlygus · 03/01/2008 12:34

OMG. Twinkie. Lily Ann is a dead reborn baby. I swear I have seen more beautiful stillborn babies than that. What on earth would persuade someone to spend all that money on that?!

BadKitten · 03/01/2008 12:38

This program really disturbed me and made me feel sick. Mrs Perfect with her ultimate in self obsessed selfish perfectionist fantasy life and Mrs Granny whom I don't want to speculate about but clearly she has some very serious problems with her relationship with her dd as well as mental health issues.

becklesparkle · 03/01/2008 12:41

that is freaky Twinkle

that ebay doll is freaky shit, man

I love the way the only person bidding is called "chuckyshere" cos that's what that doll looks like

MrsWeasley · 03/01/2008 13:19

The Granny said that women to walked their dolls out in a pram where going to far (or something like that) but then she was doing it! eww

It was an odd, odd programme.

I am not surprised the DD moved to NZ. Wouldn't you?

pipsqueak · 03/01/2008 13:36

weird sad car -crash telly . agree iwth you mrs w - i would have been off to NZ like a shot if grannie carried on like that- seriously thought poor harry was dead the way she was going on . as for chav lady with hte hair and nails ....omg!
