I love it too, have watched it from the beginning. I’d love to do a degree in social history , but the nearest is in the north east and I’m south. Plus I’m 65!
I had measles badly apparently in 1961 when I was 5 so the recent episodes have been very interesting.
Anyone else play count the different silver cross prams in each episode?

TinselAngel · 20/02/2022 21:27

Do the paraffin and the fireworks were red herrings.

TinselAngel · 20/02/2022 21:27

*So

Pebble21uk · 20/02/2022 21:27

So... what was the point of the train crash then? I don't get it! A two-parter for what reason?

RachelGreeneGreep · 20/02/2022 21:29

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

Any predictions for the Christmas episode?

Shelagh’s oven gets spattered with grease from the goose.

She returns to the nuns.

Broken.

Very random observation - Sister Frances seems quite tall! I always think of her as being short....

upinaballoon · 20/02/2022 21:37

No, I'm not spotting the Silver Cross prams, Knittingnanny, but I know a woman who was in one when she was a few months old - not I.
The recovery from the glandular fever was a bit fast. Breaking the news so soon to the new widow seemed very hard. Would it have been done like that?
On the plus side, the regulars are all still with us, and the baby's young mum met the nice daughter who's mum's coffin the baby was buried in.

Partyatnumber10 · 20/02/2022 21:42

So I'm thinking Jenny Agutter waited until the last moment to sign her contract, holding out for that extra pay rise.
They filmed two endings, one in which Sister Julienne died and the baby got buried with her.
The other, we saw tonight.

I actually enjoyed it though and had a bit of a lump in my throat!!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 20/02/2022 21:42

@PriamFarrl ✨ 🌻

Maerchentante · 20/02/2022 21:49

Did I hear correctly that Dean was supposed to be eight months old? He looks quite small for that...

upinaballoon · 20/02/2022 21:49

Now for the really serious job of the week - making notes on Mrs. Buckle's outfits. She surpassed herself this week.

 1. A red patterned dress, with a beautifully cut collar, probably seen under a cape/coat last week.
 2. Black and orange patterned dress with a blue and white apron.
 3. Predominantly red, with central blue region, checked dress with a blue cardigan and blue beads, possibly Poppits left over from the 50s (?) Checks perfectly cut out, matching on either side of the central blue.
4.Blue and yellow patterned dress.
 1. Blue and white patterned dress.
 2. Turquoise and black diamond patterned dress, presumably cut perfectly, but I didn't really get a good enough look while they were posing for the photo.
ALL run up by Violet herself in between keeping house, running the shop and going to council meetings.
MadisonAvenue · 20/02/2022 21:49

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea

Gosh they really were efficient in those days with all the investigations.
Even in the 80s, my Grandad died suddenly on the Wednesday, a post mortem was needed and his funeral was the following Tuesday, six days later. That was the norm.

I hope we see more of Sister Hilda next series, she’s a wonderful character.

JinglingHellsBells · 20/02/2022 21:51

@littlbrowndog

Yes jingling. I neve4 watched it before but have binge watched all series. What a history on women has been a real education
I'm old enough to have lived through some of the 'history' and my mum and late gran certainly did. My Mum was offered thalidomide and (thankfully) turned it down.
Jourdain11 · 20/02/2022 21:51

I actually really like both Sisters Hilda and Frances. They're both very interesting characters.

FawnFrenchieMum · 20/02/2022 21:53

This whole series seemed to be a bit ‘lacking’ I’m hoping it’s because they had to film it all whilst socially distancing and it will be back to normal next series.

upinaballoon · 20/02/2022 21:53

Sorry, whose, not who's. I am ashamed of myself.

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 20/02/2022 21:53

That was so disappointing, was really hanging out for a death of one of the characters Dr Turner preferably

Tim's "acting skills" consist of looking startled and that seem to be the limit of his range.

Blossomtoes · 20/02/2022 21:54

@PriamFarrl

Well I loved it. I know it’s bollocks but I don’t care. And me and DH had a little cry at the idea of the baby going in the coffin. We lost our only baby at 14 weeks.
So sorry. 💐 That made me weep too.

💐💐💐💐for you and your baby.
AppleKatie · 20/02/2022 21:56

All that angst and St Julienne is still alive 😱

Violinist64 · 20/02/2022 21:59

I enjoyed it very much but it was obvious that Dr. Turner couldn’t be killed off - he hasn’t cured cancer yet. I wondered if he was going to beat Dr. Christian Barnard by giving Sister Julienne the world’s first heart transplant.
On a more serious note, I thought the young actress playing Carol, the teenage mother was excellent and very believable.

GruffaloSolja · 20/02/2022 22:01

Well that was the most disappointing series finale every. All that dramatic build up and it didn't lead anything.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 20/02/2022 22:03

That was such an anti climax - I was bored throughout the second half.

Tim really can't act, can he Hmm

It made me laugh though that Trixie's fella got himself into the group photo at the end!

PriamFarrl · 20/02/2022 22:03
@PriamFarrl I'm so very sorry for your loss Flowers.
Thank you.
We don’t often think about it but things like that do get you.

Good work there, @upinaballoon. My sewing expertise is non-existent but from watching the Great British Sewing Bee I see that experts can knock up a nice dress in a few hours.
