Anybody watched it yet? I binged watched the whole thing this morning 😳

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 01/02/2022 19:54

I loved her corkscrew gadget too !
Most bottles are screw tops now , but it was cool ! All those corks and she still looked in such great shape with glowing skin ! 😂

Inkanta · 01/02/2022 20:12

Yes she did look in great shape and lovely face!

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2022 20:43

All that drinking , she should have looked awful and have had to wear a fat suit to show some wine weight ( as well as all that sitting around too )
Instead she looked fabulous! 😂
I had body envy.
I hope they make season 2 soon.

thats what I couldn't get about the Guardian review which was "she drinks a lot but always looks perfect" - I was thinking 'yes, thats the point - in these these types of programmes the woman always looks amazing even if she's doing heroin every hour..."

IcedPurple · 01/02/2022 22:55

Yes, and her beautiful, spacious, light filled home is impeccably clean and well-maintained, right down to the generous supply of identical chicken casserole dishes.

StarlingsAreAmazing · 02/02/2022 01:44

The bread scene made me belly laugh. The guy stood behind her, pacing, biting his nails and exclaiming "WHAT IS WITH THIS GUY!"

A normally average scene made brilliant with comedic timing.

Yes the Guardian reviewer really did miss the point, unless he/she was being ironic. I noticed early on Kristen Bell was waking up from deep sleep with her face beautifully made up. It wasn't obvious to me at that point if it was a spoof. When I look back now was this film sending up other aspects of film making today, - like diversity inclusion and representation ... and also those sex scenes.

venusmay · 02/02/2022 04:04

I enjoyed it. I loved the jug of wine she poured herself daily! The overflowing bowl of corks! I'm hoping they do a second series.

I doubt very much the show was sending up diversity inclusion and representation in film making. Why would it? If anything it makes you more aware of the historical lack of diversity and inclusion in the genre being spoofed.

Loved the show. It was rollicking good fun!

Yeah I did also think how she's not fat from wine

Yes it could, or it could be spoofing film makers who tend to trumpet diversity inclusion like a badge of honour or like a fan fare.

Having diversity and being inclusive in TV and Films is a good thing. It’s been a long time coming and I doubt very much given Kristen Bell’s views she wouldn’t attach herself to a show that mocked being proud of this achievement.
Inkanta · 02/02/2022 04:44

Yes of course it's a good thing. I'm talking about filmmakers who wear it on their sleeves as a badge of honour to virtue signal their virtuousness. Film makers have been criticised for drawing attention to their goodness in this way - trumpeting about it.

I’m not sure where you are getting this from at all. Because her ex was black?

There was absolutely no suggestion of spoofing of diversity and no reference to race at all.

I don’t think this show is mocking the filmmakers you are talking about. That’s my take. I appreciate though we all have different views and perspectives.

Anyhow - sorry everyone for derailing the thread with something that probably requires it’s own thread. Back to the show - watch it! It’s great fun!

Inkanta · 02/02/2022 05:05

Its a spoof of film making in general and not a spoof of diversity no, of film making. That may include film makers inclusion and representation of diversity - I wondered if it was drawing attention to this side of things.

BrimfulOfBaba · 02/02/2022 10:16

@Inkanta if it makes you think that, people like you are the reason we need more diversity. Kristen Bell wouldn't attach herself to a project that was trying to make a 'point' like the one you're suggesting.

BrimfulOfBaba · 02/02/2022 11:35

@Inkanta sorry that sounded a little harsh. But clearly Netflix and other producers are trying now to make up for years of a lack of diversity. There is no suggestion in this programme that this is a tongue in the cheek towards those efforts, and I'd be wary of anyone who assumed it was.

BusterGonad · 02/02/2022 13:33

I've just binged watched this over 2 days, I loved it. I really liked the copious amounts of wine, all the chicken casseroles and handy man that did nothing all day! It was obvious to me that it was a piss take. I also watched the other one with Emily Adams. The woman in the window? And it definitely was taking the piss out of it. I'd watch season 2 if it was available right now. It was enjoyable and relaxing to watch.

mirabellemadrigal · 02/02/2022 14:57

Some funny moments

The serial killer
The dog paintings
😂

Andylion · 02/02/2022 15:46

Those classic Corelle casserole dishes reminded me of my childhood.

mirabellemadrigal · 02/02/2022 15:49

And Glenn Close!

BusterGonad · 02/02/2022 15:58

Yes, Glen Close was the cherry on the cake. Is it just me or did Anne have some lovely jumpers and boots!

IcedPurple · 02/02/2022 17:06

Also, her paintings were terrible!

the80sweregreat · 02/02/2022 18:12

I loved her dog paintings as ' the Mona Lisa' etc.
She did have nice boots and jumpers!
