OP posts:
whoopstheregoesmyshouldet · 31/01/2022 21:56

We gave up on it. It was neither one thing or the other

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2022 06:49

It also had a good ending.

BucketOfPlumbers · 01/02/2022 07:28

Ds and I didn't realise.it was meant to be a spoof Blush but we are autistic so may have been oblivious Grin we are on episode 4 so far and enjoying it. The way the daughter died is just so unbelievable though! and the constant drinking annoys me

BlingLoving · 01/02/2022 09:53

Made an attempt last night - the humour was just too subtle. I could see it, but it wasn't funny. Stopped about half way though episode 3.

You could definitely tell it was a spoof from the start (well I could). I recognised lots of films. I thought it was funny.

BucketOfPlumbers

Sorry, I didn't mean to quote you.

However, the constant drinking was because she was an alcoholic and part of the story.

kindlyensure · 01/02/2022 12:17

Right, have finished it now - couldn't resist! And it did not disappoint.

Loved the ending. Bingo! And the appearance of (not a spoiler I think) a manic Glenn Close channeling her Fatal Attraction vibe was too funny.

I am not sure I am ready to see another series just yet. I wonder how tired the trope would be after a while, but on the other hand I do think there is some mileage in this - I think Anna is deffo shaping up to be the Agatha Raisin of the Girl in the Window/Lake/Train/Plane genre.

BucketOfPlumbers · 01/02/2022 13:40

@TakeSomeMoreTea
Probably references to loads if films, but we di t waych many so probably why we missed them. Also we tend to miss things like that anyway Grin

The drinking thing is a personal one. Close relative drinks and is an alcoholic etc so I realise it's part of the story but I tend to stay away from stories with alcoholics or addiction issues. This is my issue though, not to do with the series as such! Smile

CoolShoeshine · 01/02/2022 14:15

I’m really enjoying it. Took me a while to realise it was a spoof - my DH pointed out it was obvious from the title Grin.
Completely daft in places but definitely much better than Stay Close!

CoolShoeshine · 01/02/2022 14:18

Also - what’s the reference for the casseroles? Is there another film where a character does that?

Inkanta · 01/02/2022 15:10

American casserole must be different to British casserole, - never heard of having a slice of casserole. My casserole is meat and gravy. That casserole looks like it's made with pasta.

TakeSomeMoreTea · 01/02/2022 15:18

The casserole thing reminded me of Desperate Housewives. Women are always cooking for new neighbours, people that are ill or are bereaved in American films/shows.

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2022 15:31

A slice of casserole!
Some things were a bit surreal at times, but it was still funny too

MsTSwift · 01/02/2022 15:36

I thought it was funny! The guardian (sneery) review didn’t seem to realise it was a spoof! Was cringing for the reviewer…

Suzi888 · 01/02/2022 15:37

It’s terrible- but can’t help watching it and enjoying it… with a glass of wine Blush Each episode is really short and it’s fast paced which is also good (for me).

Egghead68 · 01/02/2022 15:40

I liked it. It didn’t deserve the terrible reviews at all imo

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2022 15:45

Short sharp episodes, funny quips , lots of thriller / horror type tropes and not bad acting
She'll make a good detective in series two I bet.
Find out what's going on.

Cas112 · 01/02/2022 15:46

Its a spoof of 'the woman in the window' that was also on netflix

Yes and other films like it.
Andylion · 01/02/2022 16:14

Also the ventriloquist's dummy.

The way he carried that bag, that must have been one heavy dummy!

Matching shirts too.
IcedPurple · 01/02/2022 16:43

The enormous buckets of wine really cracked me up!

I wonder if there will be a series two? (Sorry if that sounds a bit Partridge). They did seem to be at least giving themselves the option so I hope so. It got some scathing reviews but Netflix will be more interested in the viewing figures, and it was top of the 'most viewed' list when I checked. I would definitely watch it! It's fun, undemanding and Kristen Bell was hilarious.

givemepiece · 01/02/2022 17:40

Watching it now and I have one question

Where the hell can I get a cork screw LIKE THAT?!

momtoboys · 01/02/2022 17:44

Is it with Kristen Bell? I love her.

roarfeckingroarr · 01/02/2022 17:54

It's very funny; I like how it starts fairly normal abs then gets more and more of a parody (starting with M Mike). I didn't really get the last ten min of the series.

Kristin Bell looks AMAZING she's in such good shape.
