Anyone watched the first episode ? The US Downton Abbey set in New York in 1882.

Everyone keeps calling it the "US Downton" I loved it. I think possibly even more than Downton.

I would if it really was like that then in New York ie Old Money - v - New Money and the snobbery that came with that

What a fantastic episode.
Not a single dull moment… and the ending.
Did not see that coming.

youngestisapsycho · 04/08/2025 19:51

I watched the trailer… can’t believe it’s the last episode… thought there would be 10 for some reason 😣

vjg13 · 04/08/2025 19:59

That was a really good episode, did not see that ending!

MissMarpleRocks · 04/08/2025 20:05

Ooh the trailer! Thank you @HerdMentality

Not sure if this counts as a spoiler so beware about reading

I don’t think I have ever felt that shocked watching something. I literally sat there with my mouth hanging open. Did not see that coming at all.

Serenster · 04/08/2025 22:03

Two shocking endings two weeks in a row! And how tragic was poor Oscar’s story this week? The scene where Christine Baranski just looked at him and you could see the wheels turning inside her head was well done.

(I was slightly anxious about what happens next, but remembered Peggy’s suitor is hanging around waiting for her to come downstairs just over the road…)

afaloren · 04/08/2025 23:41

What an episode! I was so shocked - again! By the ending.

Poor Oscar.

MotherofGorgons · 05/08/2025 08:21

SPOILER.......

I do not think George is dead.
Hector turned out all right, didn't he? I thought he might.
Marian is so incredibly irritating she's ruining it for me.
I wish they had given more time to Nathan Lane earlier. He is so much more interesting than Marian and Peggy.
Anyone intensely annoyed by Cynthia Nixon's Ada voice, all whispery and wavery?

tennissquare · 05/08/2025 08:50

@MotherofGorgons Cynthia Nixon said in a podcast (how to fail) that she filmed The GA and the sex and the city follow up show at the same time and found it incredibly hard to move between the 2, I think she is almost over playing Ada in this series as weak, weird voice etc.

Mrs Fish is Carrie’s publisher in AJLT if you watch both 😉

Loved this episode! Shocked at the ending, but hopeful it won't be a major disaster.

I want it all: George to survive, Marian and Larry reconciled, the Newport Ball a massive success with all the divorceesin attendance, especially Aurora, Hector and Gladys a sensation at said ball and happily ever after, Peggy's past forgiven, the Russells reunited... Anything else?

NeedWineNow · 05/08/2025 20:59

Just watched this week's episode, that was an absolute corker! So much packed in.

They can't kill George off surely (but you never know). Definitely think that Clay is behind the attempt on his life. I'm wondering if the bullet gets Larry, but he survives and he and Marion are reconciled on his sick bed.

Actually cheering at Hector and Gladys and the way they supported each other taking on Lady Sarah. I so hoped they'd come good and things are looking very promising.

I hoping that Dr Kirkland defies his ghastly snobby mother and sticks with Peggy. I can't quite remember the story about her baby. Was it her dad that gave the baby up for adoption, or have I got that wrong?

Looking forward to next week's finale and am so glad it's been renewed for a fourth series. Hope we don't have to wait too long!

Amazing episode. Oscar 😩. George almost at breaking point, Bertha oblivious.

I'm not sure what year it is if 1929 is coming up god help them all.

Loved the clock story

Chemenger · 11/08/2025 09:53

It’s about 1890, so 1929 is a long way away.

Loving Oscar this week!

A fantastic finale I thought.

HerdMentality · 11/08/2025 10:33

Brilliant episode! Roll on Season 4!

justasking111 · 11/08/2025 11:01

I haven't seen episode 8 yet. Recorded it at 2am.
Looking forward to the ball

MissMarpleRocks · 11/08/2025 17:01

Omg! What an episode! Where will the next season go?

I love George and Bertha as a power couple, so hope that doesn’t go. Or they going to go the Vanderbilt route I wonder.

Anyone know about the accuracy of divorced women attending the Newport ball?

MissMarpleRocks · 11/08/2025 17:19

Forgot to add I love Oscar! Brilliant 🤣

Chemenger · 11/08/2025 17:22

I will watch tonight but I have just remembered that I have actually been to a ball in Newport, in the Rosecliff mansion. There were plenty of divorcees there, but things might have changed!

How fabulous! I’ve only ever been to a ball in Newport Wales. very specifically, the Celtic Manor 😂
