I keep hearing rumours but can't see anything set in stone. Does anyone know when the new series of PB starts?

OP posts:

Wow, that's fascinating. I love a good tv drama that teaches me something. But yes, it's chilling thinking about what may have been.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 07/03/2022 13:31

@Butterflyfluff

It’s really quite different this series.

I guess Covid reduced the big scenes but it’s pretty much all about Tommy.

With Ada popping up every so often to say ‘fuck’ a lot 😂

I know we all love Tommy but the lack of characters and constant moody shots are making it slow going

Ha! Yes I noticed that. When she walked into the Garrison last night in shadow I had a few hairs on the back of my neck for a second as it made me think of Pol.

And Alfie's (so glad he's back) story about the chap and the statue Grin

XelaM · 07/03/2022 13:58

Alfie's stories are always the best Grin

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 07/03/2022 15:10

And I loved Lizzie clearly disgusted at having to be social with Diana Mitford. Gosh her orange dress was gorgeous. I bloody ❣ Lizzie Grin

youngestisapsycho · 07/03/2022 15:29

Has Finn even been mentioned?

Tillymintpolo · 07/03/2022 15:30

It showed Finn at polly’s funeral

Walkingalot · 07/03/2022 16:46

I've just watched episode 2. It's lost it's sparkle. It's pretty dark and that includes the film light! Just not feeling it, not even with Alfie's ghostly appearance.

VivaDixie · 07/03/2022 17:12

Alfie's statue story really did echo modern times 😂
I also loved Tommy's Labour MP speech to his constituents. Again, it could have been said in a constituency in 2022

grannyjacob · 07/03/2022 18:18

I loved the first episode last week but am sorry to say was really disappointed overall last night. The scene in the cathedral was wonderful, what a backdrop. Loved Lizzie so obviously loathing Nancy Mitford. Was good having Alfie back in it. The rest was just too slow and dark.

Binglebong · 07/03/2022 21:08

Tommy's speech really was brilliant. Why is it tv speech writers are always better than real ones? Some in The West Wing were amazing!

OnTheBoardwalk · 07/03/2022 21:18

I’m another one who didn’t know about Oswald Mosley and Diana Mitford

I do love a show that makes me Google proper things and not just 'what other shows was that actor in'

Vote Tommy Shelby. Grin

Well, I would.

dapsnotplimsolls · 07/03/2022 21:58

Anyone watching the Real Peaky Blinders?

CBFA · 07/03/2022 22:18

Now I adore this programme, but the lighting and cinematography is all going a bit heavy and am dram at the moment, and can barely see a thing. I get it's the aesthetic, but it undermines the plot and characters if you're feeling let down by not seeing the thing!

Agreed. I couldn't tell who was attacking who in the fighting scene.
foxlover47 · 08/03/2022 09:34

@OnTheBoardwalk I am the same , I googled and I have to admit I did when some of churchills scenes were in the last series too

Thymeout · 08/03/2022 22:49

Well I love it! The fusion between the cinematography and the music and the politics makes it stand out from the rest. And Cillian Murphy is brilliant. Mesmerising. I could sit and watch him for hours, sitting on his horse, just thinking, with Nick Cave in the background. The darkness reflects the times.

Diana Mosley was a real bitch. I went to Decca's memorial do in a West End theatre, paid for by Debo, Duchess of Devonshire. Maya Angelou spoke about their friendship and we all sang the Internationale. I sat next to one of the Guinness grandsons. Nice lad. Diana and Decca weren't on speaking terms, no surprise there. Decca's second husband, after Esmond Romilly was killed in the War, was Jewish and her daughter married an African-American.

Motnight · 10/03/2022 12:34

I am loving the cinematic feel of it. Can't wait for Esme to return.

MissBattleaxe · 10/03/2022 20:10

@Thymeout what a story! Wow! How do you know Diana was a bitch? I've gathered a bit from Google relating to her very dodgy views but did you know anything personally?

I was nervous that series six wouldn't be as good and whilst Polly leaves a massive whole through it, I'm loving the music and cinematography and epic scenes. It's just superb telly. In between S6 I'm rewatching old episodes and it's immersive and transportive.

grannyjacob · 11/03/2022 02:12

Just noticed that I put Nancy instead of Diana. And yes, Tommy’s speech was good. Also looking forward to Esme returning.

Thymeout · 11/03/2022 11:45

@MissBattleaxe

No. Nothing personally. I've been a fan of Jessica since
I read Hons and Rebels back in the 60s and have read all the memoirs and letters between the sisters. (V entertaining.) It just seemed to be a given, just as Nancy was notoriously mean with money.
When Debo, the peacemaker, tried to get Jessica to meet Diana, she said something like, 'oh I couldn't possibly. She'd have Benjy (J's son) made into lampshades.' Typical Mitford flippancy, deadly serious underneath.

MissBattleaxe · 11/03/2022 13:33

@Thymeout What a family! I was reading some quotes from Diana and she really was an arrogant old cow by the sound of it.

XelaM · 11/03/2022 21:34

Diana wasn't even the worst fascist of the Mitford sisters- it was Unity who was Hitler's actual lover Confused and a member of his inner circle. She stayed in Germany but shot herself in the head as the war began

Thymeout · 12/03/2022 11:57

@ZelaM

Unity had an all-consuming crush on Hitler, but it wasn't reciprocated. She used to hang around the coffee shops he was known to use and eventually secured an introduction. He was more interested in her for her connection to the British aristocracy than anything romantic. Churchill was a distant relation.

Unity and Jessica were close in age and divided their bedroom into Russia and Germany, with the hammer and sickle on one side and the swastika on the other. Unity went to Berlin to take German lessons and Jessica eloped with Esmond Romilly, a Churchill cousin to fight in the Spanish Civil War. A British battleship was sent to bring them home.

Unity was a clumsy, galumphing teenager - a good heart but not v bright. She even made a mess of killing herself. Survived with brain damage for several years. Nothing like as sophisticated and charming as Diana. Peaky Blinders was right in saying that Diana was the brains behind Mosley.
