Is anyone watching this series? Have only seen the first episode but just love the kids. They can't hide their emotions at all Grin liked Paul Hollywood as a stand in for Liam too, thought he was good with the kids.

Those Blowtorched Alaskas! Dear me, a couple of disasters there.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/01/2022 17:57

Bullet dodged indeed. Can a certain contestant keep up that run of luck?

murasaki · 20/01/2022 17:58

He is hilarious

LaBelleSauvage123 · 20/01/2022 20:57

Although Alyisha's dessert obviously tasted wonderful, I thought that it was basically just a cake with the imposter bits on the top rather than being a total illusion like some of the others' bakes. But she's a lovely girl so don't begrudge her Star Baker.

I don't really understand how Gabriel keeps getting through when he makes so many mistakes and his bakes look so messy!

Same. He's not too bad on the things he's practiced several times at home, but crap at following a recipe.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/01/2022 21:54

He's been very lucky that although he does badly in the technical at least one other person does very little better and also makes a less impressive showstopper than he does. His luck must surely be close to running out now. Nice lad, but my word, he's messy!

RavenT · 20/01/2022 22:32

I love this.
Am also slightly baffled how Gabriel is still in there, bless him!
Smile

Ellmau · 20/01/2022 23:59

I think his bakes must taste really good. (The non technicals anyway.)

LaBelleSauvage123 · 21/01/2022 08:25

As the mum of a DS with dyspraxia I recognise some of the traits - disorganisation, messiness, forgetting parts of the recipe etc. I am wondering if he has a specific learning difficulty and the producers are allowing for that ( as they should). His verbal style reminds me of DS when younger too.

Halsall · 21/01/2022 08:46

It's at least the second time that Gabriel has forgotten to put the flour and/or other (vital) ingredients into his cake....

LavenderAskew · 21/01/2022 11:16

Yes, not sure what's going on with that. Surely with a imposter how it looks is equally important as how it tastes. Gabriel was the worst of them for lookswise.

While part of Aisya's was a plate cake what she had made for the top was very good at representing the imposter

CheeseMuffin · 21/01/2022 13:21

I've met many an adult Gabriel - men who, despite the mistakes they make, rise up the corporate ladder, on account of being confident, white and middle class!!

sunshineclouds24 · 21/01/2022 13:36

@CheeseMuffin , David Cameron and Boris spring to mind!

I missed the end of an episode early in the week and figured he was gone so didn't bother to catch up and was baffled he was still there.

Is he the son of a producer?

It's a mystery.

CheeseMuffin · 21/01/2022 17:59

Gabriel is definitely going to be PM in 40 years time...

JollyHostess · 21/01/2022 18:27

Have been thinking many of the same thoughts about Gabriel! He does make me laugh though. I'd love to watch a documentary about his home life.

Harry Hill is just wonderful in this. He's warm and funny and really seems to enjoy talking to the kids. I bet he's a great dad.

On sheer entertainment value Gabriel certainly delivers! And to be fair, his showstopper looked amazing. As Liam said, he just needs to work on his technicals. I think he's such a showman that it's all about the showstoppers for him and he hasn't got the patience for the technical challenge.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/01/2022 21:02

How on Earth did Gabriel go through. All of his technicals have been terrible.

HandWash · 22/01/2022 09:13

Possibly! I thought that too, but surely allowances such as extra support following the recipe or extra time would be made? Rather than going through when you shouldn't.

He definitely reminds me of Boris Johnson!

SewingBees · 22/01/2022 09:15

Just catching up on this week's episodes with my daughter. She has very earnestly told me that you MUST prove your bread dough twice otherwise it'll be a disaster darling. She's five.

Underthestairsbears · 22/01/2022 09:22

It's very good. The little one - Mia? Was so unlucky though. She was amazing the day before and almost star baker and the next day it was all over. I also noticed that when they walk up to the table at the end to eat she was always a tiny thing at the back and the bigger kids stood in front of her. Kind of sad.

Also, I know they need confident kids for this but it's blatantly obvious these are stage school kids. They don't just happen to have dance/drama/singing as hobbies. It's probably still very difficult to get in with all the competition from these stage schools but still id love to see some normal kids doing this.

Having said that Kezia is amazing and seems a lot less showy than the others, so I'd love her to win.

Yes. Been told they were brilliant (despite being mediocre at best) and when they get things wrong it's fine as entertaining so progress anyway.

No need for Growth Mindset when there's Privalage Mindset - you just deserve to be brilliant but aren't expected to be.

LavenderAskew · 22/01/2022 09:48

Privilege not Privalage!!

Maybe some of them, but not all, surely? One little girl said she wanted to be a neurosurgeon
