For anyone interested, the BBC are showing Andy's match 8am tomorrow on the red button and iplayer.

Broady has got Kyrgios in the first round and Harriet Dart has Swiatek. Have to say, the Brits haven't got the best draws, on the whole Hmm

JaneJeffer · 14/01/2022 21:19

8 am on a Saturday kazza not a chance Grin good luck Andy!

Saw a photo of Liam in his boxers on court Grin

I heard about that Jane but haven't seen a photo. It can't be worse than his outfit. He looks like the love child of Dmitrov and Stan Grin

JaneJeffer · 14/01/2022 23:49

Naomi posted it on her story Grin

Slightly disappointed the jocks don't match his kit. Now that would be a look Grin

Fizzywinegum · 15/01/2022 10:39

As usual Rafa is talking sense saying that no player is more important than a tournament

I liked Stef’s response of I’m here to talk about tennis not Novak - may we proceed please Grin (although I think at one point he may have been against the vaccine …)

kazzaD66 · 15/01/2022 11:54

Yes, I'm sure last summer Stef was still maintaining that he didn't need to be vaccinated because he was young, fit and healthy. I bet he's glad he changed his mind, given the current debacle!

I'm not sure I've really watched Karatsev before. He was unplayable at times! Andy looked disappointed but this week has been a big step in the right direction. I just hope he can beat Basilashvili again next week Hmm He deserves the chance of a good run at a major.

Neal Skupsi has won his second title of the year Smile

Fizzywinegum · 15/01/2022 13:12

Yes it’s a shame for Andy but hopefully he’ll have a good run in the AO - I don’t think I would be able to pick Karatsev out in a line up either - apparently he’s got very big calves!

Raahh · 15/01/2022 13:34

I am currently in a spa in Center Parcs- belated birthday weekend. I'm not really a spa person.Grin

I was score watching this morning-I like Karatsev, he had some great results last year, he was the big surprise in the Russian team after their ATP cup win.

I see Kyrgios decided to stick his nose in things again- he thinks Nadal should have been supporting Djok.

Er, why exactly,? But any chance of a dig at Rafa, and he will take it.

I am cross that the whole fiasco is making me less interested in the Open than I would be normally.

Fizzywinegum · 15/01/2022 14:03

Enjoy your spa day Raahh Grin

Wasn’t Kyrgios calling Djok a tool a while ago? He seems to have changed his tune but yes any opportunity for him to have a dig at Rafa Hmm. Hopefully Kyrgios will lose in the first round and become a complete irrelevance again

Yes I just want it to be about the tennis now but unfortunately it will all be about you know who whether he plays or not which is annoying.

I still don’t think Medvedev got the recognition he should have for winning the us open because it ended up being all about Djok and the golden slam (or whatever!) and I think the same will probably happen with whoever wins the Australian open (unless it’s Rafa and he goes ahead with 21 slams …)

kazzaD66 · 15/01/2022 14:21

Enjoy Raahh
And if spas aren't your thing, have a glass or two of something refreshing to take your mind off things....Grin

Here's hoping Kyrgios loses first round...he's playing Broady Wink

JaneJeffer · 15/01/2022 15:44

A spa day is my idea of a nightmare Raahh but I hope you enjoy it Grin

I had a glass of wineGrin

I agree Daniil didn't get the proper respect for winning the US Open - we said on the last thread, it was like he spoilt the party all talk was still about Djok, even after Daniil won- emphatically.

Domi doesn't get the recognition he deserves for winning the US open in 2020- because again - it was meant to be Djok's year. If he hadn't got booted out.Grin.

I wonder what time the verdict will be at?

I have just read 'breaking news' that Djok lost the appeal 4 minutes ago.

But I have read this so many times now, it could be from a week ago.

Grin
Raahh · 16/01/2022 06:59

If it is true, there has to come a point where he isn't able to appeal again, surely,? Or this could go on forever...

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 16/01/2022 06:59

I've just had that pop up too

Presumably that's the end of the road for legal options, and he'll really be leaving?

ChessieFL · 16/01/2022 07:08

Hoorah!

Raahh · 16/01/2022 07:10

I hope so All- still won't believe it til we see him being mobbed by his adoring fans at an airport in Belgrade though.Hmm

And then I hope they stop giving him any attention, and focus on the hundreds of players who have managed to stick to the rules- whatever they might think of them- and not think they are above it all.

JessyCarr · 16/01/2022 07:25

Despite what the BBC says, this wasn’t an appeal but a judicial review - the difference being that a judicial review is a first venture into court (to review an administrative decision) whereas an appeal is to a higher court against a decision of a lower court.

Ordinarily, then, today’s outcome would have been subject to another possible stage (an actual appeal!) but the fact that they assembled the Full Court to hear it rather than a single judge precludes it. Basically it was decided that in the circumstances it would be better to get all the senior judges together to reach a decision that would be final, rather than keeping some judges out of today’s hearing so that they could hear any appeal following it.

So this really is it.

JessyCarr · 16/01/2022 07:30

Though I wouldn’t put it past Djokovic to try to argue that he should have another bite of the cherry.

ChessieFL · 16/01/2022 07:32

It will all be a bit late then though, won’t it?! The AO starts tomorrow (or possibly even later today? Not sure with time difference).

Fizzywinegum · 16/01/2022 07:34

Thanks Jessy - hopefully this is it then Shock. If he’s deported I don’t think he can apply for a visa for 3 years (although I’m sure he’ll try and get round that)

Glad I didn’t stay up all night for the verdict!
