Thanks for the clarification Jessy.

Made my day.

Now can Bojo also be chucked out?

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 16/01/2022 07:40

It's currently 18:39 on Sunday 16/01 in Melbourne. Tournament begins on Monday

JessyCarr · 16/01/2022 07:42

He’s just said he will respect the court’s decision and cooperate with deportation.

JessyCarr · 16/01/2022 07:54

It will be very difficult indeed for Djokovic to enter Australia in the next 3 years following deportation. It’s not strictly speaking an absolute “ban”, but the hurdle for getting a visa will be so high that tennis-playing even of the highest quality is most unlikely to satisfy the teat.

JaneJeffer · 16/01/2022 08:06

Get him on that fecking plane quick!

Grin jane

This is great news to wake up to but I won't believe it until Djokovic is back in Serbia.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 16/01/2022 09:11

Right
Time to talk tennis now surely
Ahhhhh
Rafa all the way for me Grin

billysboy · 16/01/2022 09:24

Lets not forget that he filled out his application wrongly and broke isolation rules in his own country which ended up all over instagram

Very entitled behaviour and glad that someone in Aus has the got the guts to deport him

Fizzywinegum · 16/01/2022 09:25

Hopefully hobnobs - looks as if Rafa is playing at about 3am UK time (I think I’ve got that right - the Oz time differences always confuse me!) Rafa has got quite a tough draw though

You know who’s match was supposed to be on the main court - not sure if they’ll keep that match on there - don’t think quite sure so many people will be interested in watching another Serb play a lucky loser?

Raahh · 16/01/2022 09:39

Hobnobs fingers crossed.
Grin

Be difficult for Kecmanovic as the Serb Djok was due to face. I do wonder if they will move his match- bit unfair that he will have prepared for match - but maybe he will prefer to be under the radar a bit too.

kazzaD66 · 16/01/2022 10:16

The players in the top quarter of the draw must be laughing. Anyone who was (potentially) due to face him in the first week has a good opportunity to get through a couple of rounds more than they otherwise would have done, probably. I'm glad he's not there but I wish it had been sorted out before the draw was made!

He said in his statement that he was "uncomfortable that the focus of the past weeks" had been on him Hmm Even DH raised an eyebrow at that and said he thought ND always wanted it to be all about him Grin

DaggerIsle · 16/01/2022 11:09

I think he meant uncomfortable that people saw him contaminate kids and journalists and enter Spain illegally.

Fizzywinegum · 16/01/2022 11:59

I think he’s on the plane!

Just read that this will be Rafa’s first grand slam without either Roger or Novak (trying not to get my hopes up!)

JaneJeffer · 16/01/2022 12:30

I had a dream last night that Novak had been treated by Radovan Karadžić when he was masquerading as a doctor of alternative medicine whilst in "hiding". I mean, this didn't actually happen - but it could have!

The alternative medicine culture in Serbia and other parts of the Balkans is crazy popular. I do have a teeny bit of sympathy for Novax because I think he genuinely has a fear of medical intervention interrupting the "natural rhythms" of his body. I mean, this is a guy who thinks that "positive energy" can make contaminated food safe to eat. His beliefs have to be pretty ingrained!

There's also a bit of an "everyone hates us Serbs" culture hangover from Milošević's control of the press - the Muslims are horrible to us, the West are horrible to us, they all tell lies and kill and destroy our people... Don't forget that Serbia is not still a particularly stable democracy and Novak would have been almost a teenager (he is the same age as me) while there was still state press censorship which encouraged Serbians to have a massively huge chip on their shoulders.

All that said, he's still an egoistic idiot. I kind of agree with Murray though - it's bad the way it happened, not good for the tournament or for anyone. And I don't believe the Australians have come out of it exactly covered in glory. Especially when they've let all sorts of rich unvaxxed people zoom in and out when no one else was allowed to.

My favourite (Mladenović) plays Belinda Bencic tomorrow, a match she will almost certainly lose. I always thought BB would be the next big thing, but it's not really happened for her yet and obviously she had bad injuries. I can see Emma Raducanu losing early, sadly.

JaneJeffer · 17/01/2022 07:02

Vamos Rafa!!

My boy Pedro won his match. I read the score wrong first and thought it was the other way round and was sad but now I'm happy Grin

Grin Good solid won for Rafa after all the distractions. He can sometimes be a bit slow to get going. I was score watching a bit in the night(can't watch til I go home).

It's probably a relief to the players to get the tournament underway.

JaneJeffer · 17/01/2022 07:14

I watched some of the womens last night and Mats was on in between. They were talking to Our Boris and he appeared as a hologram type thing which was really weird!

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 17/01/2022 07:22

Well done Rafa - that’s a good start for him

I think I’ve seen the hologram thing before Jane - it was weird but probably even more so with (our) Boris Grin. He was on breakfast telly last week - I’m not sure that 7am is the best time for him!

I think Zverev’s match is on at about 9.15am - might try and watch a bit of that

Norris is out - he lost quite easily against Seb Korda

JaneJeffer · 17/01/2022 07:26

It's not the best time for me either Grin

Poor old Norris

Seb is a tough opponent.

Raahh · 17/01/2022 09:24

Kecmanovic won- probably glad of a win(unlikely he would have beaten Djok).
Not sure what the crowds were like ( did all the Setbian support leave with Djok?Grin).
