Well this is boring.

It irritated me a bit in that it implied that babies born with drug addiction and damage will grow up without problems. As @AngelsWithSilverWings notes, unfortunately some damage is virtually inevitable.

NarcissaMalfoysManicure · 27/12/2021 23:34

That creepy man whose wife hasn’t even been dead a year trying obviously to shag Trixie makes me feel a little sick. What a shit storyline.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 28/12/2021 00:09

@GoodPrincessWenceslas to be fair when we adopted her 13 years ago the medical advisor couldn't tell us if there would be any long term issues - just that generally babies born drug dependant tend to do less well at school. But this was based on children who stay in the environment they were born into.

What wasn't known is what happens when you take a child out of that environment and place them in an adoptive family.

Our daughter has been assessed by an Ed Psych and although she found issues with processing information she said DD was streets ahead of other children born drug dependant who had stayed within their birth families.

You would not know if you met DD that there are any issues. She's just a bottom set kid rather than a top set one. She is expected to get level 4s in English and Maths and maybe level 5/6 in history and music. Languages and sciences are a no no!

She's just a lovely, funny and kind girl ( when she's not having a hormonal teenage strop!)

i just liked some of the outfits

You are obviously watching it in a different way to me... The last episode of the last series showed very clearly that Matthew is still grieving...
Toddlerteaplease · 28/12/2021 14:34

Its pretty obvious that Matthew and Trixie are going to get together.

He's not creepy and not trying to shag her - that's not at all how I saw it.

Clawdy · 28/12/2021 14:39

In fact, I was hoping they would get together!

He is massively creepy. Wife just passed, infant son to raise, and he’s continually appearing in his car just to find ways to talk to her. Leave her alone you freak.
Holothane · 28/12/2021 16:11

I loved the leeches scene but I’ve got all the Christmas ones and to be honest the early ones are the best especially the first five. The Africa one was rubbish didn’t like the circus one either.

CPL593H · 28/12/2021 18:39

I think the one with the poor, poor woman whose babies had died in the workhouse and the young girl giving birth alone were the same Christmas special. It was brilliant but incredibly emotional and I think they made the right decision to go for something more upbeat in current times, although when Lucille fell over I thought it was going to be some horrible brain injury and Cyril weeping by her bed at first. Even the "gangster" was a softy! I think it also benefitted from marginally less of the Teal Turners.

Not perhaps best writing now but still enjoyable. Phyllis is a joy, did anyone see Linda Bassett as Queenie in "Lark Rise to Candleford"?

Nothing must happen to Reggie, BTW.

I’m hoping they don’t!

I just don’t like Trixie and I don’t buy this “covert glances” stuff with widowed man. I can’t see them as a couple, no matter how many huge, billboard-sized signposts the writers shove in. There isn’t any chemistry between them and I guess I feel it is very contrived, sort of “poor Trixie, she must get a man” storyline.

Watched that one tonight, it is brilliant. I bet they got stick for it being so downbeat. Remember the outcry when Downton Abbey went all tragic on Boxing Day, I guess now they have to err on the side of twinkly cheese not squalor and loss.
MrsJBaptiste · 29/12/2021 09:40

Did I imagine this or did Doct Turner call one of the gangsters 'Mr Biggs' when he was leaving the flat? Is this current series of CTM set later than 1963?

It was supppsed to be 1966.
MrsJBaptiste · 29/12/2021 09:54

Ah, just a coincidence then!

LavenderAskew · 29/12/2021 10:25

I don't remember what he called the gangsters. I was too distracted by how condescending he was being. As well as wondering if there was going to be some significant to whatsit Turner drinking rum.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/12/2021 11:24

Mr Big?

MrsJBaptiste · 29/12/2021 14:51

I was thinking of Ronnie Biggs and the 1963 train robbery but probably misheard and got my mind wondering!

ninnynonny · 29/12/2021 14:57

I just wanted Tim to get pissed and smack St Patrick

LavenderAskew · 29/12/2021 16:17

@ninnynonny

I was wondering of that was in the pipe line. I mean we're on a bit of a loop for storyline so we could have Timmy turning into a secret lush.
ninnynonny · 29/12/2021 17:25

That would be rather good!

Sorry, I was on my phone and very slow - I knew you were thinking of Ronnie Biggs, but I think it might have been Mr Big.
SantaClawsServiette · 29/12/2021 22:41

I think the Trixi with the widower story could have worked well if they waiting about a season, or whatever passed for about a year in the show, before having them meet up again. But it just seems like it's too soon and when he called looking for her for the baptism in the earlier episode it was quite obvious where they were going with it and it seemed way too soon.

milly74 · 30/12/2021 00:34

put it on for 5 mins, insipid, sugary, slow, everyone stood 100 ft from each other in case you know we get Covid. Turned off, won't watch new series either. Shame. It was good in early days.
