Well this is boring.

Elderflower14

there was a post on here back in 2010/2011 about a foster mother taking in a baby born to an addict

Lifeisnteasy · 25/12/2021 22:44

I thought it was really dull and went on for ages

Councilworker · 26/12/2021 01:02

@ivykaty44 I thought of EMIN/EarthMotherImnot too and that thread. Hard to believe it's over 11 years ago now. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/922821-drug-dependant-baby-advice-needed

There seemed to be less teal. The social distancing in the nativity audience was ridiculously obvious. Dr Turner is still irritating and Shelagh is such a simpering dolt around him. And when he explained to her that the woman was on her 5th baby and the risks to her I don't know how she didn't lamp him. Maybe he is slipping her a bit of heroin in her drinks to keep her so compliant

justjuggling · 26/12/2021 01:33

I loved it! Perfect Christmas night viewing!

ivykaty44 · 26/12/2021 05:50

Councilworker Incredible to think the baby will now be 11 years old & hopefully very happy & healthy

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/12/2021 07:00

It was all I was up for by the evening! We enjoyed it, but my goodness it's obvious which character is married to showrunner and sole writer Heidi Thomas. Dr Turner was a very minor character in the books, IIRC. I was pleased to see Miriam Margolyes again. Reggie was lovely. I also loved the bit about having the children she'd delivered as bridal attendants.

MeanderingGently · 26/12/2021 07:11

I thought this was lovely, I enjoyed every bit of it. These are always very good, I like the fact that they always address some issue of the day....I was a child in those days and remember many of the issues of those times. Beautifully done and very heart warming!

middleagedmarch · 26/12/2021 07:52

Shelagh and the dr are so cringy. Why is she so irritatingly simpering?

Have I dreamed things though? I could have sworn that a previous episode showed Reggie moving in with a girlfriend who also had a learning disability. I'm sure Trixie went out with that rather dashing good-looking and rich bloke with the nice car. Anyone else remember these things?

Best bit of last night's episode: nuns getting drunk.

Olliesocks · 26/12/2021 08:37

I hate the very obvious social distancing. I understand they have to, but what bride and groom stand that far apart from each other?

TrashyPanda · 26/12/2021 08:45

I enjoyed it.
Loved the whole wedding storyline. And Cyril asking Reggie to be his best man was so sweet.

Too much Dr Turner though. Far too much. Was great to see Mother Emmanuel teach him a lesson though. For once he was not omnipotent.

Not too much Trixie either. She is my least favourite character. Could they signal the fact she is going to get Rich Guy any harder?

Toddlerteaplease · 26/12/2021 09:11

As a nurse who looks after babies who've had cleft lip repairs. Kurt (the child who was in a previous series with the cleft lip) scar really annoyed me. A healed cleft repair doesn't look like that!

Although, we actually had something that Dr Smug didn't know. (The morphine dowse for withdrawal)

IsolaPribby · 26/12/2021 09:37

Not entirely related to the episode, but when Nurse Crane was remembering Barbara, I suddenly realised that the actress who played her is Alison from Ghosts! I had never made the connection before!

Willowwarble · 26/12/2021 10:07

I liked it and I got a sense that teal may be on the wane making way for an explosion of mustard 😉

billybear · 26/12/2021 10:08

tears in my eye a few times.had to look away when the leeches came out

milly74 · 26/12/2021 10:24

No idea why they are sticking to the social distancing thing other dramas aren't

Emmelina · 26/12/2021 10:29

Not long started watching this episode, making predictions as I go on!
So the young nun just mentioned she’s only seen 2 breech in training other than her own birth being breech. She’s definitely attending a breech this episode, yes?
(I love this show, I do. But the writing is so predictable lately).

LaurieFairyCake · 26/12/2021 10:31

middleagedmarch

That was another tv programme Grin - not call the midwife (same actor though)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/12/2021 10:34

It was probably filmed so long ago that we were still in stricter lockdown, pre-vaccines.

Kudos to the make-up department, btw, for the black eye and haematoma (if that's what it was). It looked horrific!

Soubriquet · 26/12/2021 10:47

I’m watching now (forgot about it yesterday) and I must say, it really isn’t what it used to be

Shame and it was a beautiful program. Now it’s just meh

ARabbitisaBunny · 26/12/2021 10:51

I caught a bit of it last night (probably watch it later today) and was immediately annoyed by a ‘pregnant’ character holding her bump like it was about to drop from under her dress! It seems to be quite common for actors to portray a pregnancy like this on TV at the moment - especially on Call the Midwife, which I find a bit odd as Heidi Thomas says they have a lot of advisors. Doesn’t anyone on the production team point out that no pregnant woman in real life walks round clutching themselves like that?

Emmelina · 26/12/2021 11:00

OH there it is. Tell them baby is in the breech position.
Heidi. Seriously.

lazymum99 · 26/12/2021 11:15

The actor who plays Reggie is Leslie Grantham (dirty den) son. Just found that out while trying to see which tv program he went to live with his girlfriend in

home2012 · 26/12/2021 11:20

Did anyone else feel they are foreshadowing something happening to reggie.
