Yes it's as ridiculous as ever but it's pure escapism, the clothes are fab and Gabriel is gorgeous!

Just what I need at this time of year Grin

@DifferentHair me too I love seeing the clothes as well. It's true that it wouldn't reflect reality at all but with Carrie at least, there were many times where she overdid her credit card as it was mentioned a few times but with Emily, there's no mention of that either or whether these clothes are a freebie or if her family back in Chicago are billionaires just like Mindy's family in China. I can understand Mindy wearing it where I only assume she purchased them before being disowned/trying to survive without her bank of father but with Emily it just doesn't make any sense. But beyond these questions, I really love most of her clothes and her hair is lush.

IShouldProbablyHooverMore · 29/12/2021 18:01

The prog is bloody ridiculous, but I love it. Pure escapism.

sansucre · 29/12/2021 18:02

Emily's clothes are all part of the fantasy of living in Paris and nothing to do with real life, particularly in terms of how much they cost. It's escapism costuming, so don't bother analysing how Emily's character (and the others) can afford to dress in the way they do.

doadeer · 29/12/2021 18:07

I think Emily comes from money.

I think a marketing exec at her level would be on £50k but rent is Paris is really high.

(Completely over analysying!)

pinkhousesarebest · 29/12/2021 18:25

I’ve just got to the bit where she gets the train to Marseille. Died laughing at her outfit. Is this how Americans think the French dress?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 29/12/2021 18:34

It’s fiction folk.

100problems · 29/12/2021 19:14

Zut alors @JayAlfredPrufrock diem merci pour vous!

Tableto · 29/12/2021 19:17

@Lamerexo

Literally the worst show ever but for some reason I am still going to watch the second season Confused
Lmao same here!

I thought it was a year all expenses paid or at least generous relocation bonus
doadeer · 29/12/2021 20:23

I don't think work would pay her accommodation in that industry. But I think I'm reading too deeply into this!

Movies and TV always ignore all reality of financial situations.

Bridget Jones living pretty much on the river in zone 1.

Early SATC cast living in amazing apartments.

cruffin · 29/12/2021 23:14

Pure trash but easy to watch when baby has gone to bed!! I also think Lily Collins looks incredibly thin and hope she is okay. You could see all her collarbones in that scene outside oh her birthday.

Lampyshady · 01/01/2022 02:50

I actually liked Alfie and thought he was nice and better for Emily than Gabriel who was beautiful but they have less in common and he cheated on his girlfriend of 5 years with her best friend which is just awful.

Jooox · 01/01/2022 14:41

I binged it last night but the American boss constantly eating and talking with her mouth full really ruined it for me. I ended up muting large parts in the end.

Blogdog · 01/01/2022 15:04

On Emily’s clothes - I read an interview with Darren Start and the costume designer Patricia Field (same designer as Sex in the City) recently. When asked about how Emily could afford the clothes he snapped ‘It’s not reality. If I wanted reality I would make a documentary’.

Does anyone think that Camille is less glamorous in Season 2? I feel they have toned her down a lot, particularly in comparison to Emily.

Frankii · 01/01/2022 15:36

Well he just sounds like an all round charmer doesn't he Grin

KillingMeDeftly · 01/01/2022 16:22

@Blogdog I thought the same about Camille. She was definitely more chic in the first season.

KillingMeDeftly · 01/01/2022 17:08

Actually a lot of the clothes cost less than I thought they would. There are some pieces from ASOS, River Island and Zara! And Emily's show stopper red dress in the finale was $399 - that's not cheap but I assumed it would be far more!

I'm surprised to see no Chanel for Camille. Her character is old money so you'd think she would've inherited some vintage Chanel!

Patricia Field is a genius at mixing High / Low fashion. She envisions the whole look. I absolutely love her work!

Omg the rear horrible outfit with the fluffy pink trim, weird golfer cap and striped trousers is so expensive!

Some of the tops are stupidly pricey.

jay55 · 03/01/2022 15:38

@Blogdog agree Camille was less glamorous, her hair looked awful a few times.

For me there were too many musical interludes. I love Mindy but didn't need her singing all the time. It felt like a lot of filler.

Delatron · 03/01/2022 20:39

Camille looks really different. Not in a ‘had work done’ way. Maybe she is pregnant. Or they’ve made her look less glamorous on purpose.

I heard on the radio today that French companies can be fined 70,000 euros if employees work/access emails at weekend. ‘The right to disconnect’ law. It was quite interesting to listen to the reasoning behind it.

BakeOffRewatch · 03/01/2022 22:01

Just finished it. What do we think she decided? I think we’re meant to think she’s hurt and will turn down the job, but I think she is vengeful after seeing Camille trick her, and is taking the job to stick around and be meddlesome.

Lily Collins had anorexia before from school, she’s open about it in interviews.

DifferentHair · 04/01/2022 02:26

@jay55 agree, I like Mindy but I don't understand why so much screen time was devoted to her singing. They established she could sing early on, the plot didn't benefit from multiple songs in various locations.

It reminded me of that character Jenna from 30 Rock who was constantly trying to sing in every situation.

KillingMeDeftly · 04/01/2022 11:55

The Ukrainian culture minister has complained to Netflix about the shoplifting character and I can't say I blame him!
