I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

Wonder if Kirsten D has remembered how to act yet? She was AWFUL in S1 - so different from SATC.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 29/04/2023 07:52

@LeQuern I completely agree with you she was absolutely painful to watch and I just don't get it...?! She was fab in SATC?

thebellagio · 29/04/2023 08:31

I just hope that there’s actual storylines this time rather than “what woke thing can we bring in this episode to lecture the audience about?”

the whole show took itself FAR too seriously. It was absolute hate watching. A literal car crash where I couldn’t stop watching but I hated every minute!

tribpot · 29/04/2023 08:33

I think part of the problem was that half her face is frozen and filled, so she can't act as expressively or naturally as she did in SATC. Equally I do think she has forgotten how to get into the character of Charlotte, as it was always a fine line to walk - needy and high maintenance but loving and resolute.

She seemed like a parody of the character. Plus, she’s lost her softness and prudishness (which was her ‘funny’) and developed a brash, over the top personality. It’s like two totally different characters.

'I just hope that there’s actual storylines this time rather than “what woke thing can we bring in this episode to lecture the audience about?”'

Absolutely. Less pronoun nonsense and less Che would be great. I see Aidan is back though. Ugh

Doubleraspberry · 29/04/2023 10:04

I find Charlotte’s face so distracting. It makes me sad that Kristen Davies looks in the mirror and thinks that she looks better with all that work than she would ageing naturally.

thebellagio · 29/04/2023 10:27

@Lottapianos the irony is that some of the storylines should have worked. Charlotte having a trans child is much more interesting than say Samantha having a trans child because it made character sense for someone like Charlotte who very much adheres to gender stereotypes to understand it. But the way it was written and developed was so poor.

similarly Che was just so badly written and it infuriates me so much that Cynthia Nixon, Sara Ramirez and MPK blamed the audience, rather than questioning how they created such an unlikeable fun sponge.

Skybluepinky · 29/04/2023 10:29

I love it and loved the orginal.

Yes, I really like Sara Ramirez from other roles, so was predisposed favourably to the character. For all of about two seconds. God, Che was (is?) beyond ghastly.

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 29/04/2023 10:31

I cannot abide Carrie now

thebellagio · 29/04/2023 10:32

i felt exactly the same @Corbally in fact because I DO like Sara, I think that’s what made it so much worse to dislike Che so much.

the self importance, the arrogance and the lack of any redeeming features isn’t because the audience was transphobic, it’s because the writers didn’t do their job properly.

tribpot · 29/04/2023 10:36

Yep I have liked Sara Ramirez in everything I have seen them in - but even Sara couldn't redeem this character as Che is godawful.

Netaporter · 29/04/2023 11:27

So if I recall correctly we all ended up feeling it was car crash tv. Except for episode 1 which was up there with Logan Roy’s unexpected death. I sobbed like a baby. Then it all went a bit tits up. Steve’s unforgivable character demise for no good reason, and then Che… I’m secretly hoping for a surprise Samantha return but given the very public messages Kim Cattrall wrote about SJP, hell will have frozen over first. I did love Seema’s character and LTW.

I’m looking forward to see how the Aiden storyline develops but my money is on Carrie not being Stepmother material 😂

Lottapianos · 29/04/2023 12:05

'I did love Seema’s character and LTW.'

OMG, Lisa Todd Wexley! What a work of art she is 😁 turning up to save the day with taco vans in that BONKERS combat outfit, with a hairbrush in this pocket, and a mirror in that pocket, like she's off to fight some kind of style war 😂

Love it

WonkyFeelings · 29/04/2023 15:23

Despite all its flaws, I loved loved loved SATC. I then hated the movies (the second one was beyond appalling) and then I hate watched season 1 of AJLT.

Still, I’m looking forward to season 2 because I’m the eternal optimist and the clothes look good in the trailer!

thebellagio · 29/04/2023 15:54

i would go as far as to say that SATC2 was so bad it’s potentially one of the worst films ever made and it single handedly ruined the SATC legacy.

tribpot · 29/04/2023 15:59

Yes, I agree @thebellagio . I honestly don't know what they were thinking. Not a great omen that Aidan was in that too! (Although I don't think John Corbett is to blame for what a bag of shit it was).

Can’t argue with that.

thebellagio · 29/04/2023 16:14

I think the shittyness of both films make AJLT even worse to be honest because it’s so long since it’s been any good.

I always thought the finale of the series was perfect so it frustrates me that the legacy has been so badly trashed by the key players involved in the series

Netaporter · 29/04/2023 20:32

@Lottapianos the ‘Essential safari’ was an actual collection for AW21 by Moschino. I looked it up at the time. Best fashion moment since ‘I had a bird on my head’ 😂

That's hilarious! Serious fashion people really do live on another planet

£1,735 Shock Who buys this stuff?? It's so ridiculous and unflattering, I don't understand high fashion at all.

MissTrip82 · 30/04/2023 09:32

I’m looking forward to it. I found both Miranda and Che utterly utterly plausible - middle aged woman ‘finding herself’ and not giving a shit about anyone else in the process, and a flat out narcissist who has mistaken adopting a persona for being someone. These people absolutely exist across society. I don’t see either as an error in writing.

I don’t think I’ve ever come across someone who uses the word ‘woke’ seriously who isn’t an utter arsehole but I think a trans kid and other identity questions are exactly what these women would be dealing with in real life. Wherever you stand on these issues - they would absolutely come up in a rich New Yorkers life.

Drunkpanda · 30/04/2023 09:46

I don't think Che is written as being a narcissist though, we're meant to think she's amazing
