Just finished episode one and need to talk about it!!!

Didn't like much of the episode to be honest. But the ending! I'm floored! Was not expecting that.

Episode 4 was excellent. I really like Lisa, Nya and Seema. Great additions to the cast.

Not too much Che thankfully, and actually that scene was pretty amusing. The podcaster accusing the social media woman of ghosting him was funny.

Bless Willie Garson. I’m glad his character got to have a fantastic trip to Tokyo at the end ❤️

Youdoyoutoday · 23/12/2021 15:25

Relieved by the lack of Che in episode 4!!

Willie Garson 😭

Not sure I like how much Charlotte and Lisa fan girl each other!! Have a normal conversation for God's sake!! Seema seems to be becoming the new Samantha!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/12/2021 16:11

I'm really enjoying it and ds who is 20 and has never seen SITC really enjoyed it too surprisingly.

JacquelineCarlyle · 23/12/2021 18:48

Seema would be a great substitute for Samantha - she can hold her own and holds Carrie to account! Plus she looks amazing!

TwinkleToppy · 23/12/2021 18:54

Carrie is Caroline? Mind blown.

KillingMeDeftly · 23/12/2021 19:34

@TwinkleToppy I know!! I never really thought of "Carrie" as being short for anything.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 23/12/2021 19:35

This was actually a very, very good episode omg!

JacquelineCarlyle · 23/12/2021 19:58

I'm glad someone agrees with me @Justheretoaskaquestion91 - I loved it!

Yamayo · 23/12/2021 20:43

My God the Charlotte storyline is excruciating.
Surely no-one who is on the board at the Met would be that socially inept?
The contrived way she suddenly listed all the artists was just ridiculous.

Still hate-watching but finding it painful.

Miranda is headed for a big breakdown and no-one seems to care.
I guess considering the writers she will turn queer and suddenly stop drinking and be happy again...

JMAngel1 · 23/12/2021 21:49

Episode 4 felt more like SATC - total cringe at Charlotte and her Black agenda though - really shocked anyone would think like that.

Loved Carrie back in her old apartment and the new girls fitted more in ( much less of Che thank god). Liked Seema? a lot - she can stay Grin
Loved the big white skirt and the nonchalent striped jumper and the green skirt/blue shirt outfit. I feel like some of Carrie's clothes are now so busy with multiple layers and patterns, it's hard to decipher what she's actually wearing.

Excited for next week now (please, no Che!)

JacquelineCarlyle · 23/12/2021 22:03

I didn't see it as a black agenda @JMAngel1 but more she was conscious of how white her world and friendship group is and was acknowledging / trying to address that.

1910username · 23/12/2021 22:24

If anyone wants to find out what it’s really like to be a black woman as actually experienced and told by them (rather than the characters in AJLT), I’m loving Insecure on NowTV.

Very insightful and funny too.

JMAngel1 · 23/12/2021 22:33

@JacquelineCarlyle
I think you're being kind to Charlotte's character (or lack of Grin). She only wanted to expand her friendship group so her new friend wouldn't think badly of her (as an aside why, is her new friend referred to by her initials?!).
Charlotte's motives were definitely questionable - I loved how her neighbour saw right through her.

JacquelineCarlyle · 23/12/2021 22:40

I agree with you @JMAngel1 but to me it was her being conscious of it and questioning herself rather than any malice or underlying racism.

JMAngel1 · 23/12/2021 23:04

Oh yes, definitely no malice or racism. Just more concerned about what her friend would think of her - she is a grown women in her 50s! She should own who she is and not try to concoct contrived relationships to look good in front of her new friend.

DaggerIsle · 23/12/2021 23:04

It's totally virtue signalling white privilege though- she's worried she is going to look racist and is desperate to invite any black guest- Anthony sees right through it when he suggests his 'ethnically ambiguous' Colombian waiter. She then tries to invite the annoying school mum instead. Not funny though- just rather crass.

I still don't get how she became the Thelma of the relationship (that friendship feels really contrived).

Speaking of aggressively woke the social media girl was so cringe.
I cringed when I noticed the wheelchair. Of course she would be. But the constant swearing? Was that supposed to be edgy and cool? I just thought it was horrifically unprofessional.

The only part that felt natural in the whole episode was Seema and Carrie's interactions, I also liked the professor's ambivalence about motherhood. That felt real.

Back on Carrie being a shit friend. Someone in another thread mentioned her shutting down talks about Miranda's drinking as being unable to deal with it in her grief.
Well she clearly noticed Charlotte refusing to order a bottle of wine at lunch. And thought it was hilarious.
And completely ignored the comment Miranda made on the phone about feeling invisible.

GellerYeller · 24/12/2021 00:03

I got the impression they were caricaturing millennial media types with the sweary girl.Like the character in Bridget Jones Baby who wants to 'nutribullet the shit out of it'?!
I did find the mums committee with the 'drop the ball' comments and them wrangling to be the one to book the best activity very realistic though. All that passive aggressive frenemy type stuff. I thought they got it bang on.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 24/12/2021 01:50

The awful Charlotte scenes pertaining to race were just cringey, and actually served to perpetuate some stereotypes.

AnnunciataZ · 24/12/2021 08:33

I think Charlotte's scenes were meant to be cringe though, and I've seen that behaviour many times from white people who "discovered" racism existed after George Floyd was murdered and now want to try and prove how aware of diversity they are. Mistaking one person of colour for another is also something I've often seen!

irishfeminist · 24/12/2021 08:34

I cringed myself inside out.

Despite the humour and fun, Thelma and Louise were a waitress and a housewife fleeing the law after one of them shot a man who'd been trying to rape her friend. What has that got to do with two incredibly wealthy New York women bickering over afterschool activities??

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 24/12/2021 08:48

RoseRedRoseBlue · 24/12/2021 09:37

Yes, I understand that, but it went too far. It’s the same as the whole Che thing - just constantly pushing or exhausting the same theme.

NutellaEllaElla · 24/12/2021 10:00

Thank you for suggesting Harlem - I love it!

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 24/12/2021 10:41

I spent ages yesterday trying to remember where I'd seen the actress playing Seema before - finally gave in and Wiki'd her; she was Saul's wife in Homeland, a role she was great in, but criminally underused. Looking forward to seeing more of her, she's fabulous. Not so sure about all the other peripheral characters they keep introducing, I'm starting to lose track of them all.

KillingMeDeftly · 24/12/2021 10:51

Sarita Choudury has been acting since the late 80s so she's been around for ages. She's British but I think she's lived on the US for so long that she's lost her accent.

When she was showing Carrie the guys on her dating app, did anyone else think that Steve would show up on there?
