Though it wasn't as good, it had a slight Unforgotten vibe about it.
I think Gemma Whelan wouldn't be a bad replacement for Nicola Walker if they decide to do another series of Unforgotten.

PrincessScarlett · 10/11/2021 19:42

@DevilWaresPrada

Shaw, the Irish cop wasn't on the roof. The 4 on the roof were the two cops Matthews and Lizzie, Farah and the boy.
Oh really? I was convinced at the very start of the first episode Sarah arrives on the rooftop after the girl and Matthews had fallen and Shaw asks her who she is 🤷🏻‍♀️
Blondeshavemorefun · 10/11/2021 19:48

You are right. ShaW is on the roof crouching done talking to who we know now is his gf

He asks sarah who she is

Maybe the older police man had a heart attack and fell, he was wheezing and clearly not fit or He lunged for the phone and they both fell.

2020isnotbehaving · 10/11/2021 21:07

Oh come on this is longest start in history just run the credits at start at be done!

2020isnotbehaving · 10/11/2021 21:08

Surely her phone just pinged where they are?

UpThePodge · 10/11/2021 21:25

But wasn't the phone in Matthews locker , that's why he needed the master key
colouringindoors · 10/11/2021 21:29

So is the black detective a baddie?!

colouringindoors · 10/11/2021 21:30

@DevilWaresPrada

Yes! She'd be great!

PrincessScarlett · 10/11/2021 22:00

Well if that wasn't a set up for another series I don't know what is!

JaneJeffer · 10/11/2021 22:01

Im still confused about the phone. When did Matthews take it off her?

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/11/2021 22:02

I thought tonight’s was good

Tho still not sure if Hadley was a hero or not

Did he try and save her

Or was that LIZZIE’s lying version of events

I’m wondering if will be s2

Esp as shaws wife has the phone

I quite enjoyed it, much better than Hollington Drive, The Long Call, Angela Black and that dreadful one with Noel Clarke.

I guess it was trying to tell us that getting justice is not clear cut. Still annoying that Ben and his mother were able to avoid being interviewed in what was a very serious incident involving the death of two people.

PrincessScarlett · 10/11/2021 22:05

@JaneJeffer

I think he took it off her when she was meant to be meeting Lizzie but we weren't shown that scene. He then put it in his locker and in retaliation Farrah took Ben.
JaneJeffer · 10/11/2021 22:14

Could Ben speak though? I'm not sure.

I think Matthews did try to save her.

I don't know whether it was telling us that it was ok for the cop to be racist because Farrah's dad was an awful neighbour harassing Ben's mum and keying her car or asking us if it was ok!

I felt sometimes like i was watching a kids programme if it wasn't for the sex and violence Grin

SiobhanSharpe · 10/11/2021 22:15

I liked it but i don't think it really explained how Shaw got to the tower so quickly -- he must have been on the roof incredibly soon after the event.
Unless i missed it/didn't get it. Always a possibility...

TitsInAbsentia · 10/11/2021 22:17

The biggest flaw for me is that you can rarely access the roof (especially when it contains plant equipment) without a lift key. Other than that it wasn't too bad, and at least it was only 3 episodes - grateful they didn't stretch it to 4 or 5!

JaneJeffer · 10/11/2021 22:19

I'd like to read the book now just to see how it compares. I thought some of the police talk was a bit cliched but it was written by a cop so maybe they do talk like that.

PrincessScarlett · 10/11/2021 22:25

Ben was supposed to be 5 years old wasn't he so would definitely be able to speak and Farrah said to him "tell them I let you go". If he was temporarily not speaking due to post traumatic stress there are specialists who deal with child witnesses. For the mum and Ben to just refuse to cooperate was odd and made it look like there was something to hide.

Clawdy · 10/11/2021 22:27

That ending was much less disappointing than I expected. I liked the twist with the wife glancing at the phone. I might have preferred Gemma W's character to be a bit more likeable, but I guess that's more realistic in a way.

JaneJeffer · 10/11/2021 22:31

Yes me too Clawdy but I think she was supposed to be miserable because she had split up with her girlfriend.

JaneJeffer · 10/11/2021 22:33

Princess I think he had additional needs though.

2020isnotbehaving · 10/11/2021 22:34

Surely the child is a witness you don’t get decide no as a parent and police just say ah well. Same with house warrant they wait outside while the wife says no and could be destroying all sorts.

So Matthews was racists but “not a very bad one” she saved his career and pension by lying because something about how it’s better people like her are in the force?

I was expecting the wife to hand the phone at the end. It’s not one I would watch again but nice try ITV

PrincessScarlett · 10/11/2021 23:04

Oh ok, I missed that.
