Ten years after the Dexter series

I’m currently doing catch up of the previous series before viewing

I thought fab ending tho sad

Now Harrison will have to bear the brunt of killing his dad

I kinda hoped she would be behind him and shot him instead of him

Shame we didn’t see flashback of Molly being killed

I didn’t think he had killed coach

Just knocked him out

That’s the first death that shouldn’t have happened

He did t deserve to die

zafferana · 11/01/2022 10:45

Yes, I agree with lots of those @Blondeshavemorefun. I too thought he'd just knocked Logan out, that Angela had shot Dexter, and that it's a shame that Harrison will have to carry that burden in future. I guess though, in order to get Harrison to shoot him, he had to have broken 'the code'. If he'd always just killed dangerous people then Harrison wouldn't have had a reason to shoot him - he'd just have let him go - and then what next? Dexter is still out there somewhere? I think probably the creators of the show wanted to end it properly this time.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/01/2022 10:50

Def ended

But will Harrison be able to control his urges

Will it be back in another 5:10yrs

zafferana · 11/01/2022 10:50

One more thing - I liked how at the end Dexter was made to reflect on the fact that he was ultimately responsible for several 'good' people's deaths, like Deb, LaGuerta, Rita, etc and it was his actions that screwed up Harrison. He may have tried to live his life by 'the code', but killing people, however bad they are, had terrible consequences for good people too.

zafferana · 11/01/2022 10:51

Yeah, I also wondered whether Harrison will get his own show in future. I suppose it depends on whether a) there's demand for it and b) whether someone comes up with a good script!

I wrote a huge paragraph and lost it so please excuse my rambling while I attempt to write it again.
spoilers
I do hope that's the ending and they don't go for a Harrison spin off however it's interesting that Dexter's downfall began when Harrison arrived. I wonder if he knew more than he let on and was putting on an act, maybe he is more like Dexter. I did think for a second he would be more like Harry and wouldn't be able to handle seeing him kill but he didn't actually seem that phased. And of course he killed Dexter. There's definitely potential, if we assume he doesn't drive off and find that normal life he was looking for.
I would have loved another episode with the fall out and Batista arriving. I don't think it had to end with Dexter's death.
I was such a huge fan of the original series, I still can't believe it's over.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/01/2022 11:32

Wow! Excellent last episode! Agree though I would have loved Dexter and Angel to have met again.

Gosh, Angela really hated him by the end didn't she?

Felt bad it ended in the cold for him.

He made excellent crispy bacon and eggs, I'd totally have breakfast with Dexter as long as I avoided looking at the greasy fringe.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/01/2022 11:35

And I was pleased they went out and ended it on a bang with no doubt That Was The End. It would have been easy to squeeze another series but D and H would have had to move the it just becomes Serial Killer Roadtrip.

I guess there co I'd be something following Harrison next to see how he handles his Dark Passenger? Maybe ghost Dexter to council him along the way.

Yes! Wasn't there a flash back when it looked as if Harrison was in the woods and had seen the encounter with Matt and the Deer?
MeredithMae · 11/01/2022 11:45

I really, really enjoyed it and think the ending was perfect. It couldn't have gone any other way, really.

Will we have a Harrison spin off?

MeredithMae · 11/01/2022 11:47

Yes! Wasn't there a flash back when it looked as if Harrison was in the woods and had seen the encounter with Matt and the Deer?

YES! I wondered this! It certainly seemed as if Harrison had seen it all.

nuggetschicken · 11/01/2022 11:50

As much as I was disappointed in the ending, I'm going to watch from the beginning again Grin
Shame they removed the original series from Sky.

LanieM87 · 11/01/2022 12:03

I don't know if I'd be interested in a Harrison spin off, I kinda like how his future is open to interpretation now, I like to think maybe he will go off and find Aster and Cody - do they ever wonder what happened to their little brother?!

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/01/2022 12:58

I think he did

That was the night before he arrived

And yes he is def dead.

No wondering

Unlike last end of series

I felt cheated years ago

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/01/2022 13:14

Dexter also has one of the most ominous pieces of music in tv ever ever for its opening/closing credits, like nails gently down a blackboard.

Ahhh how I'll miss it.

MeredithMae · 11/01/2022 13:30

I genuinely loved the original Dexter, despite the crap ending, one of the best shows I've ever watched. This was a welcome addition and I'm glad I've watched it and they did it.

Emmas85 · 11/01/2022 13:42

I'm wondering whether there will be a spin off with Harrison and he'll come back to find the police chiefs daughter has had his baby?

DillDanding · 11/01/2022 13:42

Much as I don’t want it to end, I thought it was a great ending.

Pinkbonbon · 11/01/2022 16:05

I don't think harrison has a dark passenger though. He was just a teenager who was angry and hurting. Probably needs therapy but not a killer.

I did wonder if they were implying that the police chiefs daughter was pregnant with his child though. With the wording on the voice-over when he was passing outside her house.

Also, just a thought but, thet could easily do a second season where they flashback to show dexter putting on a bullet proof vest at the police station. Think about it, he has to convincingly fake his own death, otherwise the police will never stop looking for him. He'd be all over the news and found in a week. And the blood...hmm...could he have got that from the butchers place they were showing (where the guy was chopping up deer outside) ?

User6397254 · 11/01/2022 16:44

I thought the ending was quite fitting, at least it ended this time. I wouldn't be surprised though if there was a spin off series with Harrison and Dexter playing a Deb part in it.

I was going to watch series 1-8 again from the beginning but unfortunately Sky have removed it, hopefully it will be back soon

nuggetschicken · 11/01/2022 17:09

Imagine... Angela was standing there though... maybe she let's him go after finding out about Kurt. I need more Dexter Grin 3rd time lucky with the ending!

Pinkbonbon · 11/01/2022 17:41

Maybe he'll crawl off to the stream when no one is looking and make it look like his body was just washed away and they'll be like 'oh but he must be dead because he's lost too much blood' and that would throw back to the scene where he was being tracked.

BitcherOfBlakiven · 11/01/2022 17:54

When he was telling Harrison where to shoot him, I thought it was either

  • He was coaching him to shoot him in the torso because bullet proof vest, and he was planning to crawl away after Harrison had gone
  • Or because he wanted to die fast.
Pinkbonbon · 11/01/2022 18:08

Yeah I mean, he had the night in the cells to plan things and 10 years in that town to figure out what to do if he was ever sussed out. But he had to let Harrison think he was dead again so that they could both live freely.

LanieM87 · 11/01/2022 18:29

Oooo interesting theories! I'd never considered a bullet proof vest, but it could be very feasible!

Not sure how I'd feel about if they did go down that route. For me the show finished his story well.
