Good cast including Ben Aldridge - martin shaw - Anita Dobson - and Declan bennet (Charlie cotton from ee) as his husband

I always have subtitles but do struggle if some shows don’t have them

Just caught up with this on BritBox. I would say it was better than Angela Black, but frankly that's not saying much. Very much the mixture as before for an Ann Cleeves adaptation.

Senior police detective - tick
Something a bit different from most other senior police detectives - tick
Born and bred in an astoundingly beautiful part of the UK and now works there - tick
Sidekick of the opposite sex - tick
Murderer more than likely than not to be female (crime statistics? plausibility? what are they?) - tick

I prefer Vera and Shetland, but I suppose they've had a lot longer to get into their stride and find a winning formula. If this gets umpteen series, maybe it will do the same.
