@CurryLover55, I’ve got the two that aired as I haven’t watched them yet though I’m not sure if I can be bothered. ITV dramas are seeming quite rubbish at the moment.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/10/2021 20:56

@lazymum99

Dennis is Martin Shaw from The Professionals and Judge Deed. Far more attractive than Lucy’s dad. Although same full head of grey hair
I must be more observant !!!

Least we should find out tonight who killed and abducted

Is it the final episode tonight

youngestisapsycho · 28/10/2021 21:03

Yes, last one tonight

thebuswontfit · 28/10/2021 21:09

How did Ed get a job as a social worker when he was sacked from his last job for sexual misconduct?

ElftonWednesday · 28/10/2021 21:16

The pacing of the second episode was odd but the rest has been really good. It's only "dark" if your normal viewing is CBeebies.

Guessing he lied

Still bugging me who he is. Really recognise Ed

Also the women are only similar if you are visually challenged. I find all the characters distinctive.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/10/2021 21:29

I thi k too obvious to be Dennis

The actor who plays Ed has been in loads of things according to IMBD.
Poor Grace I hope she pushes Dennis off a cliff.

Cocolapew · 28/10/2021 21:45

Oh maybe not poor Grace Shock

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/10/2021 21:48

I'm a bit disappointed at the outcome Confused.
Everyone was so bloody miserable.

BIWI · 28/10/2021 22:11

I thought the last two episodes were much better.

Okaytellmewhatisavailablethen · 28/10/2021 22:13

Except for Pearl Mackie and her teens Coco - they seemed quite cheerful, with a takeaway en route! Interesting to see her in this - very different from Bill Potts in Doc Who! Oh and Lucy seemed quite positive overall as well.

Second series?

Clawdy · 28/10/2021 22:27

Didn't find it believable that Grace would stab someone to death, especially someone who was helping her. I know she was coerced, but it didn't ring true. Just felt it was a contrived twist. Some good acting, though.

That's true, Lucy seemed the most sensible person in it. I thought Anita Dobson and Martain Shaw were very good. Overall I did enjoy it, I gave up on Hollington Drive after 30 minutes 🥱
PrincessScarlett · 28/10/2021 23:27

Anita Dobson was brilliant tonight. So compelling to watch. Ben Aldridge was great too. That scene when he broke down when Jonathan was talking about how they never held hands in public because of his upbringing was so believable and emotionally raw.

It was typical Vera though in that you always end up feeling sorry for killer because of their back story.

Walkingtheplank · 29/10/2021 00:09

@Romeiswheretheheartis

Why is it called The Long Call? Confused
I found this:

You know the long call is the most complex vocalization of GULL’s repertoire can be heard year-round in mostly served as aggressive signals! So the GULLS SCREAMING, metaphoric WAKE UP CALL because this heart-wrenching, dark, twisty, nerve-bending story taken place at North Devon, people liked to act like THREE WISDOM MONKEYS!

They see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil because their reputation, their fake lives, their place at the society are more important than everything. They cover sexual abuses, domestic violence, bribery to resume their perfect, shiny, impeccable lives.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/10/2021 08:00

@Walkingtheplank that’s interesting

OP posts:
Clawdy · 29/10/2021 08:15

That description of the gull's cry reads a bit like a translation - "wisdom monkeys"? In the book Matthew describes the cry as sounding like "an inarticulate howl of pain" which I guess sums up the story.
