I thought the exposition of the shame gay men are (unfortunately still) made to feel was wonderful and really moved me.

LadyEloise1 · 29/10/2021 09:44

I'm watching it on Virgin Media TV in Ireland who show ITV series usually weeks after they've been shown in the UK, it's on once a week here though the complete series is available to watch on the Virgin Media player.
I'm finding it very difficult to hear what the characters are saying and there are no subtitles available ( once again on a Virgin channel - ITV drama series Sad).
If I raise the volume the music becomes really loud. Unbearable.
I think I'll have to give up watching because of the lack of subtitles as it's so frustrating.
Some big names in it.
Martin Shaw
Neil Morrissey
I didn't recognise Anita Dobson. Shock
Unlike PheasantsNest I don't think Juliet Stevenson is a terrible actress.
I'll come back to this thread when I've watched it all, if I can stick with it.

AnkleDeep · 29/10/2021 11:46

Just watched the last episode. Thought it was excellent. Acting very good, especially Juliet and Anita.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 29/10/2021 14:58

Is the lead detective played by the actor that caused so many pulses to race in 'Our Girl'? He doesn't have quite the same allure in this.

I have a friend who was raised in such a tight-knit Plymouth Brethren type community, so found it very insightful.

Thought Anita Dobson was excellent in it.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 29/10/2021 15:14

Anita Dobson was very good, but I agree it was very far fetched that she'd have been able to overpower and stab the guy, she was so slight and fragile looking.

Thanks pp for the explanation of the Long Call.

Samcro · 29/10/2021 22:58

Just watched the end, bit late and everyone else will have turned the lights on.
Enjoyed it, but was confused, got rosa and lucy mixed up when they were talking about them.
All the men seemed very.. well shitty. Apart from detective and hsi dp.
Thought anita dobson acted her socks off.

Yes I realised today that he's Captain James from Our Girl. I knew he looked familiar so had to Google him.
Davros · 29/10/2021 23:47

@Cocolapew

I'm a bit disappointed at the outcome Confused. Everyone was so bloody miserable.
Agreed. And how many different people did they suspect, it went from one to another. I was also a bit fed up with that charity where they all seemed connected. It was alright imo, no more than that
madisonbridges · 30/10/2021 00:10

Just binge watched the 4 episodes. What absolute dire crap. No wonder it took so long for the detective (I can't even be bothered to remember his name) to sort it out, he was too busy gazing in his navel. I'm not a big fan of Martin Shaw but I wish he'd wiped out the entire cast. Ideally 10 minutes into the first episode.

Italiangreyhound · 31/10/2021 01:30

Clawdy I agree. Unbelievable ending.

Walkingtheplank thank you. I was wondering why it was called that.

longwayoff · 31/10/2021 07:53

Thank heavens for this thread it's saved me wasting an hour on Ep 4.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 31/10/2021 08:11

Thanks for that explanation @Walkingtheplank. I had wondered what the significance of the title was.

2020isnotbehaving · 31/10/2021 09:08

Ive decided not to bother trying after part 1. Shame but I was lost after that and if I’m like most of you will carry on.

RevolvingPivot · 31/10/2021 11:33

I got to episode 3. Then deleted all the series. Then re added again and skipped to episode 4 then deleted again 🤣🤣

mumofblueeyes · 02/11/2021 19:04

I was so excited to find Captain James on TV again but just lost interest in this as it was so unrealistic. There is no way a senior detective would be allowed to investigate a murder / abduction within a community he used to live in and where his own mother was a witness or involved. It just made the whole thing unbelievable. However, I did love the scenery and the beautiful house overlooking the sea!

Mooserp · 03/11/2021 12:41

Does anyone else find that Matthew (Ben Aldridge) reminds them of Greg James?

longwayoff · 03/11/2021 12:58

@Blondeshavemorefun, are u watching GUILT blondes? I would say it's right up your street.

longwayoff · 04/11/2021 12:15

Oh. I'm surprised. Try a couple of episodes together and see what you think. I have really enjoyed it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/11/2021 12:28

Many said s2 wasn’t good

I have to agree

Silly storyline

And you know me. I like most things on tv 😂😂

Ive just spent four hours watching that pile of drivel what a let down.

RaraRachael · 04/11/2021 20:09

I gave up after episode 2 as I found it tedious and dull. Normally I'll see a drama out to the end, but just couldn't be bothered with this one. Doesn't seem like I missed much.

diddl · 06/11/2021 13:40

Was about to watch but don't think I'll bother now!

Looking at the cast, the girl playing Gaby is Ciaran Hinds daughter.

shrugitoff · 13/11/2021 09:52

It's on weekly in Ireland where I am watching.
It's being ruined for me as I can't hear what the characters are saying and there are no subtitles. I have raised the volume but it makes no difference except the music becomes thunderously loud Sad
I find the female detective especially difficult to hear.
It means I only gave a rough idea of what is going on. Aghhhhhhhh

shrugitoff · 13/11/2021 15:43

I've just googled and I'm not alone re being unable to hear the actors - newspaper articles on it.
Of all the programmes I've seen recently this is the absolute worst re inability to hear what the characters are saying.
Whoever is responsible should be told to up their game.
