Anyone watching?

I wonder what happened to the niece?

Her mums in prison. Her dad tried to kill himself and her auntie abandons her?

neveradullmoment99 · 21/10/2021 20:17

@RightOnTheEdge

And Theresa giving Jean the badge back at his grave was horrible -sorry my sister killed your son and shagged your husband but here's the badge back.. I was thinking the same thing! Also why would Theresa even have the badge? Wouldn't the police have it? Surely it was used as evidence Confused
I agree. I did think, how did she even have the badge? What a horrible thing to do!
eddiemairswife · 21/10/2021 20:58

I think I'll stick with Midsomer Murders in the future.

Motnight · 21/10/2021 22:16

Why did husky voice sister crash the car? Was she trying to kill them both?

It’s something when MM is preferable to this shite.

Potentially great cast on paper but awful in reality.

Just felt so sorry for Eva, she’d need counselling & support - I’d have thought more realistic if they’d moved rather than Theresa tbh.

ChequerBoard · 22/10/2021 14:27

@Motnight

Yes, what was the point of crashing the car? By no means certain that it would be sufficient to kill either or both of them?

So much woolly thinking in the plotting of this 'drama'. It was like they started out filming just 'this is what happened' with then went back and made up odd bits on the fly to try and cobble together a mystery.

And I said exactly the same as other about the badge at the graveside scene! As if she would have had that key piece of evidence and how crass to hand it to the mother with a 'aw shucks' shrug!!

Clawdy · 22/10/2021 18:43

She found the badge in the car, but she would definitely have handed it over to the police.

neveradullmoment99 · 22/10/2021 19:29

Why was the badge in the car?

neveradullmoment99 · 22/10/2021 19:30

Oh I presume she took his body in the car. Grim.

TheOccupier · 22/10/2021 21:26

The murder scene was ridiculous. A bang on the head like that doesn't kill a 10yo or none of us would have survived to adulthood!

neveradullmoment99 · 22/10/2021 23:13

Surely as a headteacher she would have developed strategies to deal with children not handing things over! So stupid. She acted like a child in the playground wrangling over a toy!

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 23/10/2021 01:49

@lazymum99

And another fantastic house. In an idyllic area this time
The house they moved to was by far the best thing about the entire thing.
SpanishFly · 23/10/2021 09:13

I thought the single most ridiculous thing was that we should believe that a house with a child in it would have a broken lock on the back door, compromising everyone's safety (and the insurance!) which wouldn't have been fixed immediately, but left as it is for a while, and discussed many times in a "ooh, will you ever fix that lock?!" type of thing.

He obviously didn’t want the lock fixed through so she could sneak in and out. That said, I’d have sorted it myself if it was my house.
ChequerBoard · 23/10/2021 14:46

But could he not just have left the door unlocked? Not hard, the door handle didn't have to be actually broken for that to happen.

lollipoprainbow · 23/10/2021 14:49

Too much staring and mumbling for my liking please stick to motherland AMM!

Keepthechangefilthyanimal · 23/10/2021 14:59

Yes, That makes more sense!
GreenClock · 24/10/2021 11:55

The premise was so good. The cast was fabulous, every single one. But ITV ballsed it up.

I liked the nature/nurture idea. And Theresa going to great lengths to protect Ben was food for thought for most parents. But it was all so badly executed. Plot holes galore, unrealistic procedural stuff.

I liked, however:

  • The chemistry between Helen and Gareth.
  • Helen and David’s sterile house, reflecting the marriage.
  • Hints at David’s closeted homosexuality.

But overall, what a waste of a strong cast and an interesting idea.

BobGalaxy · 29/10/2021 17:48

Surely Theresa should have been charged with perverting the course of justice, after an innocent man was arrested and police time wasted due to her fabrication. Unless her sister didn't 'tell them everything' as she threatened to.

sleepyhoglet · 30/10/2021 21:10

I'm tempted purely because of Anna Maxwell Martin. Is it worth it?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/10/2021 18:12

No, it's not, Sleepy.
(eg watching paint dry) and I wish I'd never turned it on.
I watched because having started it I HAD to know who was responsible - but it was however many hours of my life that I could have sent more productively

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/10/2021 18:14

Sorry - just noticed my cursor must have jumped.

The line sfter Sleepy should be the last line of my comment.

Hearwego · 01/11/2021 21:37

This initial storyline could have been a good one, however it was too far fetched. Was hard work watching 4 hours of this!

A ten year old boy waking up in the middle of the night filming a woman sleeping with his dad, when he was fast asleep in bed minutes before! He was asleep when they were at it, so how could he have filmed them?!

RoseGoldEagle · 10/11/2021 11:04

So disappointed in this! Such a brilliant cast but just so awkward and stilted and a terrible storyline. Only good thing was seeing Jim as the police officer, I haven’t seen him in anything other than Ghosts, he’s fab!
