I agree Raahh - it does feel like they have bowed to pressure to have the big names there. It feels wrong that Ashleigh Barty is having to cut her season short due to Australia’s quarantine rules then they’re going to let unvaccinated players play.

In better news, Andy has won the first set against Hurkacz!

That’s good news for Andy - I keep forgetting that the tennis is on at European times after all the overnight US tournaments so didn’t watch it

I’m surprised at the AO - I thought they would be more hardline but maybe there are so many unvaccinated players that they were worried they wouldn’t have enough (top) players? I’m annoyed that Djok seems to have got away with it though

I also think there might be a bit of a public backlash - there are still restrictions on travel to and from Australia so it’s not a good look letting a load of unvaccinated tennis players into the country just to play a tennis tournament

Another good win for Norrie- and a very close first set in the match between Stef and Grigor. Stef took it- but it was the same first set result last year and Grigor took the match.

Grigor has fought back in the second set, serving at 4-5. But it's not going well- double fault, and now another error. Possibly not a repeat of last year on the cards...

I am watching the Ruud/Sonego match it's very close. Casper is getting very animated over something- not sure what- there doesn't seem to be any commentary..

And I keep reading conflicting things over the Australia/ Vax situation. The Prime Minister muddied the water by saying one thing but the Premier of Victoria has said that no unvaccinated players will be allowed -it's unfair to the people who work there and spectators, who have to be double jabbed. Djok has been moaning about the thought of quarantine again.

I wish someone would just come out and make a definite statement, and stop pussy footing around. If the rules are that people entering Australia need the jab (unless exempt for good reason, I assume)- then those are the rules.

And Casper has won- well done to him- he's having a great year.

I'm sure if I decided to head off down under they would be checking my vaccine passport! Should be the same for everyone. Mind you our Chief Medical Officer is saying the vaccine isn't working as well as hoped here which is pissing me off big time!

This is the first chance I've had to watch Berrettini this week -and he is not doing well- 6-1 to Alcaraz in the first set. I do like Alcaraz though- he is is obviously very talented- he's had some big wins in recent weeks.
Tsitsipas lost to Tiafoe last night- so a few upsets happening.
