Wonderful

OP posts:
JackieNo · 18/11/2007 22:01

Yup - haven't read it (them, in this case) . Really should.

Carmenere · 18/11/2007 22:01

I loved it

JackieNo · 18/11/2007 22:02

It's a real all star cast, too, isn't it.

Katymac · 18/11/2007 22:04

I thought it was wonderful (in between explaining to DH the intricises (sp) of the 19th C class system)

Jennster · 18/11/2007 22:04

Not read, found it hilarious. Loved it.

Jennster · 18/11/2007 22:05

My sister missed it, anybody know if it's being repeated?

PeachesMcLean · 18/11/2007 22:29

Oh joy of joy of joys. I loved this. Happy happy happy. Classic BBC costume drama and the whole point of autumn if you ask me.

DH said he enjoyed it too but was most amused by watching me enjoying it

JackieNo · 18/11/2007 22:31

I kept giggling out loud at it. It even managed to keep DH, who up till then had been asleep on the sofa, awake. He said it reminded him of Mapp and Lucia. I could see what he meant.

MarsLady · 18/11/2007 22:32

I've series linked it so that I don't miss any. I love Period costume drama. I laughed out loud so many times.

I just love Deborah. The potential for multiple weddings is great. All those single women who have "lost their bloom".

Secret love affairs of the working class. The deluded mother of a wastrel son.

Sunday evening TV at its best!

Mapp and Lucia wow. Heard that recently on Radio4. Never heard of it before, and certainly didn't realise it was a TV series too.

MrsTweedy · 18/11/2007 23:13

Loved Mapp & Lucia books and the series. Cranford is a delight, must put the books on my Christmas wish list. Adored the business with the oranges!

RosaLuxMundi · 19/11/2007 00:44

It is great. I have read the book and the feel of the tv adaptation is spot on IMO. Loving Eileen Atkins.

WendyWeber · 19/11/2007 01:14

Did you hear Judi Dench on Woman's Hour this week? Apparently when someone rolled up in a carriage Eileen Atkins was supposed to say "welcome to Cranford" but it came out "welcome to Ambridge" (so of course they all lost it and had to pull themselves together )

bea · 19/11/2007 09:09

wasn't going to watch it but found myself laughing out loud and thoroughly enjoying it... got swept away... laughed myself silly over the cat episode and then when the general made the coal shovel thing and the last line about being friends... almost blubbed!!!!

sphil · 19/11/2007 09:29

I blubbed when they all gave their candles to the doctor.
Thought it was wonderful - normally miss all these classic serials but am definitely going to make a regular date for this one.

Question - when Jessie came to Deborah's house after her sister had died, she sobbed that she'd thought she could be strong 'this time'. Did I miss something - did she have another sister who died, or was it her mother?

turquoise · 19/11/2007 09:39

Loved it.

Imelda Staunton usually irritates me but she was fantastic as Miss Pole - the gleeful line about tarring the stump had me cackling. Eileen Atkins is fab too. Proper sunday night pleasure.

bossybritches · 19/11/2007 10:45

Damn missed it too- I LOVE these period dramas, Peaches you're right the whole point of autumn!

Are they repeainf t later in the week? They usually do at some obscure time?

bossybritches · 19/11/2007 10:46

REPEATING it was what I meant......

bea · 19/11/2007 10:50

sphill - yup... her mother died...

saadia · 19/11/2007 10:54

I thought it was just marvellous, I have read the book and I do think that the BBC excels at this kind of thing, even dh enjoyed it and he would normally NEVER watch this kind of thing.

ChippyMinton · 19/11/2007 10:57

Loved the oranges bit - 'she doesn't like the word suck' then they went off to consume their fruit in private LOL

Piffle · 19/11/2007 10:58

wasn't it FAB- what super amazing fab cast.
DS1 13 giggled and loved it too.
Truly special bravo BBC!

Piffle · 19/11/2007 10:59

yes darn those incommodious oranges...

tissy · 19/11/2007 11:02

loved it too, but was a bit about how well that arm healed- what are we doing wrong in the 21st century?

Notyummy · 19/11/2007 11:22

Another big YES from the ny household. DH was a bit suspicious at first, but was chuckling away. He was doing the dishes and came rushing back into the sitting room to see 'if they had rescued the lace' ....bless
