Wonderful

I kept being struck by how much the actor playing Harry resembled the actor playing Mr Carter the steward. Do you think they could be related. Or am I just imagining the resemblance?

BernieBear · 10/12/2007 11:55

Is it just me and my two worlds colliding - but was the actor who played the Doctor's friend from Guy's, the chap who is in "Me Too" (i.e. Granny Murrey and her assorted crowd) who works on the train?????

It is killing me trying to figure out where I know him from. I'm right - I'm sure of it.

Somebody put me out of my misery.

MerryAnnSinglemas · 10/12/2007 13:36

It isn't the bloke on Me too (Raymond) - it's Joseph McFadden who has been in a few other things but I remember him as Prentice in The Crow Road, which was probably about 10 years ago now

He has taken the money and run MaryAnn because he is also apparently in Heartbeat
Oh Joseph, how could you?
I found Miss Matty's speech about the little rosy girl of two almost unbearably sad. Thw cow and the lace (and the circling spinsters homing in on the poor doctor) are all hilarious, but Elizabeth Gaskell wrote so touchingly and truthfully about people's emotional lives and disappointments.

bossybritches · 10/12/2007 14:08

I'm all behind with Cranford but am enjoying the repeats with DD1 on early Sunday evening. Judi Dench is heartbreaking as Miss Matty & I howled when her lovely fiance-to-be died.

MerryAnnSinglemas · 10/12/2007 14:17

Oh yes, the rosy girl - it is heartbreaking stuff - I keep trying to remember lines from it,there are so many great ones !

BernieBear · 10/12/2007 14:32

Of course - It was Heartbeat. Soooo embarrasing , need to get out more!

NadineHumbug · 12/12/2007 14:56

I recorded the programmes and have just had a wonderful couple of days catching up.

It's just too delightful!

Aaah, the English language as it should be spoken.

MerryAnnSinglemas · 16/12/2007 22:45

aaawww,it's over - this episode really did have me in tears - poor Mr Carter - and Miss Matty's brother coming home ( & Miss Pole !)and Harry and nice Miss Mary sorting everything out. - I loved it all !

Kathyate6mincepies · 17/12/2007 10:12

Wasn't it wonderful?

It is all going to be all right about the rosy girl of two because there's going to be a baby in the house for Miss Matty anyway!

The lovely clever poor boy is going to get his own education and then set up a school - and didn't you just love him when he said 'A thousand pounds? But that's too much for my education - it's enough to build a school so everyone could go to school!'

Did you think there was a hint that Miss Mary was going to end up with the silly doctor who sent all the valentines?

largevirginbirthandtonic · 17/12/2007 10:16

ooh I thought that Harry and Mr Carter looked alike too!Are they related does anyone know?

It was fab! Judi Dench was fantastic, and I cried when Mr Carter died. I haven't read Cranford, but it is on my list now

CarmenerryChristmas · 17/12/2007 10:19

I so, so, so enjoyed it. I sobbed last night and tv rarely moves a hardened old cynic like me. It was wonderful.

Have lusted after that man since I was 10 and he was in the Professionals

I knew he would be the brother

And I wept when Mr Carter died oh that was so well acted by that young lad.

I hope they do a Cranford revisited in 20 yrs time

largevirginbirthandtonic · 17/12/2007 10:24

Glad it was not just me, i'm rarely moved by tv dramas but this one is fantastic.

Dh thinks i'm bonkers, but do you know what? He sits very quietly on the couch while im watching

MerryPIFFLEmas · 17/12/2007 10:25

ooh just seen Kimberly Nixons own site (Sophy)
she has been Hedda Gabler and Miranda in The Tempest too.

MerryAnnSinglemas · 17/12/2007 10:26

I haven't seen anything I've loved as much as this for ages- will miss it but would love to have it on dvd to treasure. I didn't recognise Martin Shaw !! don't like him as a rule but he looked very handsome as Peter.

castille · 17/12/2007 10:27

Oh me too. I went to bed sighing happily, though v sad for Mr Carter. What a lovely man. What lovely Sunday viewing. Love it.

robin3 · 17/12/2007 10:28

Agreed.

How do you make the perfect Sunday night series even better? Answer: MARTIN SHAW. Couldn't be better.

Miss Poles face when she saw him...Imelda you are a genius.

Only complaint is how come they made so few? GET RID OF CASUALTY AND GIVE US THIS EVERY WEEK PLEASE!

ruty · 17/12/2007 10:28

Elizabeth Gaskell was so bloody wonderful. I didn't get to see the whole series but the bits i did see and the episode last night were fantastic. And all those wonderful actresses. Finally the BBC are doing great stuff again.
