I noticed that the last thread was full, so I hope no-one minds that I've started a new one!

A teal shroud 🙄

MelissaVonStressel · 18/05/2021 10:13

Dr T is going to take umbrage at Timothy outshining him and is going to recruit a yay ninja to finish him off.

He saw off the trainee doctors, didn't he? SMJ's seen off the trainee curate. Mrs Turner is on the verge of seeing off the pupil midwife (the others don't count, they've not got names or back stories) I''m sensing a theme here.

Soubriquet · 18/05/2021 10:16

Anyone want to see Shelagh look really rough first thing in the morning

“Sorry kids. Mummy didn’t sleep well last night. We need to have a chill day today”

“Yay!!”

Mia5678 · 18/05/2021 10:17

Found the little girl playing Elaine very impressive, what an amazing little actress she is. Found the storyline very hard hitting.

What I couldn’t work out really is why her parents had taken her to see the doctor. I think I’m right in thinking she was portraying a 4 year old or thereabouts. Surely by this age you would expect a child to be walking/talking etc. I just found it so sad seeing her in the play pen unable to play! I can’t shake the image from my head!! :-(

Did play pens look like cages in the 60s?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/05/2021 10:26

Did play pens look like cages in the 60s?

Mines did. Mam was young with three under 5.

Cages were necessary!!! Grin

MajorMujer · 18/05/2021 10:48

Teal shroud, got it. I'll need more wool ........

I really want to see the Turners have a proper slanging match.

Ravenclawsome · 18/05/2021 10:58

Can you send me a PM too please @NewModelArmyMayhem18?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/05/2021 11:10

Right, I've done some PMs (sorry if I've missed anyone out). I'm not sure you're going to be overwhelmed by the spoiler though.

I wonder whether because Elaine was an eldest, the mum just wasn't as clued up about development milestones or was just in denial? I'm sure denial was much more a thing in those days.

Did play pens look like cages in the 60s?

Yep, we had one just like that. My siblings and I were born 1962-1974.
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/05/2021 11:14

Actually thinking about it, wouldn't it have been picked up by HVs or the GP long beforehand?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/05/2021 11:15

Obviously not exactly what was wrong with her but that it wasn't normal to be as she was?

Emmelina · 18/05/2021 11:32

Placemarking!

Did they have HVs in those days? I honestly don't know. As a retired Early Years teacher I do know that parents can be in denial about their children's problems.
eggandonion · 18/05/2021 11:56

A health visitor came out when I was a baby and told my mum to stop breastfeeding immediately.
So they existed! That was 1960.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/05/2021 11:58

I think it was more likely you'd visit a HV in a clinic than at home in those days? Anyway, presumably the mum would have presented at the midwifery clinic with Elaine in tow at some point (unless they left her home alone in the playpen?) during her second pregnancy!

Toddlerteaplease · 18/05/2021 11:59

Am I the only person who actually likes Mother Mildred?

jay55 · 18/05/2021 12:00

I want to see the Turner kids fight over who gets Timothy's room.

MyOtherProfile · 18/05/2021 12:03
**@MyOtherProfile* I sent you a PM and will send you one @ContinuousMonotoneBeep*.

I think the priest arriving was just a storyline to monetise their spare rooms and a precursor to getting the pupil midwives lodging there!
Thank you. Much appreciated!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/05/2021 12:03

toddler

No Wink

Soubriquet · 18/05/2021 12:04

Could I have a PM please

eggandonion · 18/05/2021 12:04

I don't think my mum frequented the baby clinic, which seemed to be where people went for baby milk and nhs orange juice. I know most babies near us got weighed in the chemists, as did most adults!
I like the 1960s episodes as that's my childhood, but the storylines were better earlier. I want the Turners house, it could be lovely.

I think the Turner house looks completely soulless and I usually like vintage things.
