I noticed that the last thread was full, so I hope no-one minds that I've started a new one!

I often wonder who looks after the Turner's children when they are work so much.

SpindleWhorl · 19/05/2021 15:28

They had au pair that lasted a whole episode, I think. Maybe Timothy is supposed to be doing it when he's not splitting the atom.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 19/05/2021 16:23

I've caught up today. Wednesday is usually my day off catch up on TV day.

So bloody heavy handed isn't it. It is like a year 5 teacher has explained to the class about a technique writers use to blend themes through stories and then asked them to write their own.

Oh look I'm teaching about PKU and we've talked about the introduction of screening.

Oh look here is a child with PKU who missed out on screening.

Oh look here is the new baby having the screening and getting the result in record time (by letter, really? How many weeks are we supposed to believe this episode covered?)

Oh look Dr T and Timmy the Future Dr are talking about how many diseases are hardly ever seen any more and Dr T is hoping that better screening (although he specifically mentions antenatal) will be available in the future.

Oh and of course the adoption theme too.

Next on Call the Dr, Dr T invents ultrasound scans, combined screening and the cvs for diagnostic testing. Probably with an exceptionally skilled approach messing he has a very low rate of miscarriage himself but some other hospital Dr will persuade a woman who want sure about having cvs and she will miscarry so Dr T will immediately set about inventing the NIPT.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 19/05/2021 16:27

Also, what was going on the the nanny interview bit? It was like a Disney comedy montage. Too nervous, too ugly, too pretty, just right.

Trixie just need to go shag the widower already. Then she can start calling Jonty her son and join Shelagh in the perfect mother brigade.

Clearly building up to some sort of crescendo with her mentioning her "meeting". She'll be confessing her alcoholic past before too long.

Maireas · 19/05/2021 18:00

Yes, Trixie will confess her alcoholism. Instead of being accurate and posh bloke saying "piss off then you alky", he'll be all supportive, acknowledging the problem of addition.
Which Dr Turner will cure.

Aye maireas Grin

With but the merest hint of MN head tilt and the air of a man who out hippos Hippocrates.

Clawdy · 19/05/2021 19:15

Lucille in real life...

Call the Midwife...or the Turners?
eggandonion · 19/05/2021 19:24

She seemed quite jolly on Graham Norton.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 19/05/2021 19:58

The lady that plays Lucille is beautiful.

They’ve certainly dowdied her down for the role Shock

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/05/2021 20:46

Wow, Lucille is totally gorgeous.

It does amaze me how actors can 'inhabit' their character so with the same 'self' they can be transformed. Noticed it particularly when the actor who plays 'Steve' in Keeping Faith turned up as a vicar in The Pact. A change of demeanour and a dog collar made him look very different despite looking almost the same (if that makes any sense at all!).

Nuggetnugget · 19/05/2021 21:52

Lucille. Just wow. I love her in Call the Midwife. She suits the role so well.

ImAncient · 20/05/2021 07:40

Wow ‘real’ Lucille is stunning!

Soubriquet · 20/05/2021 07:42

@Clawdy

Lucille in real life...
She looks so young!
diddl · 20/05/2021 09:56

@ImAncient

Wow ‘real’ Lucille is stunning!
Isn't she?

But I think that earlier on in the series she had a more flattering hair do also?

Soubriquet · 20/05/2021 10:16

She did. She came in in one episode upset because the hairdresser gave her a haircut and she didn’t like it.

evilharpy · 20/05/2021 14:06

Wow, I don't think I'd have recognised her as Lucille. She is stunning.

Someone please PM me the spoiler, it's annoying me!

itsgettingwierd · 20/05/2021 19:15

Another who wouldn't have recognised Lucille in real life.

Agree she's annoyingly beautiful and radiates a completely different personality in real life through her facial features than in CTM!

mumwon · 20/05/2021 19:38

I don't know what you lot are complaining about with warm milk - I went to school in Australia - ahem - in prehistoric 60's & they use to leave the crate of milk on the veranda next to the classrooms when temperatures were in the 90's - it wasn't warm it was hot & rapidly turning to yogurt or something - why we didn't go down with food poisoning I will never know! it was truly disgusting but we were thirsty & the water fountains were right outside the loos. nice.
We use to have this powder to drink to make fizzy lemon for dehydration - can't remember what it was called it came in a tin &you dropped a teaspoonful in a glass of cold water

MrsDoctorDear · 20/05/2021 22:19

I've decided to start again from the beginning.
Only on episode 2 where Chummy delivers the breech baby😭 You forget how good it was.
The current episodes don't compare.

Percivalthebabyspider · 21/05/2021 06:25

mumwon was it a type of barley water powder? I have fond memories of that too.

SirVixofVixHall · 21/05/2021 08:31

It is all so clunky now. Like the new Dr Who.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/05/2021 09:19

Don’t say that sirVix

He’ll adopt that role as well and Fred will get into all sorts of bother when he borrows the sonic screwdriver to fix Sister Julienne’s bike.

He will manage to eradicate Daley’s singlehandedly though and still be home to put the kids to bed...

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/05/2021 09:20

Daley’s Grin

DALEKS!!!!!

Maireas · 21/05/2021 16:32

@SheldonesqueTheBstard - now then, what on earth did you say to get deleted from the Harry thread?! Naughty!

I scolded someone who had accused someone of all the horrible negative things - you can guess what - as well as some other nasty pokes because it was unfounded, unnecessary and unfair.

I’ve complained to MNHQ because I think you should call out insult flinging - more so when it involves that. But calling people this or that with no proof or point - just because there are differing opinions - won’t be done under my eye.

I can’t watch that.

One day I will unmask my nc alter ego who had no end of nasty unwarranted behaviour on a thread. And apart from about 5 people, most stood by or piled on. I’ve never forgotten it.

So I spoke out and I’ve clearly breached something (I may have quoted phrases of the post so maybe that was it) so here we are.

I don’t believe I was horrible. But they were telt 🤷‍♀️

Sorry maireas. Detention it is Sad x
