This is one of my favourite Motherland lines. Along with "Why is it called a pornstar martini?" "Because it relaxes your anus". 😂😂

1 day to go!

I'm just binging series 1&2. I LOVE the pilot which isn't on iplayer but is on Netflix. There isn't a bad episode of Motherland is there? Every episode is brilliant

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 09/05/2021 18:18

My favourite line was when Mrs Lamb was shouting through the megaphone and no one could understand her, Julia asked Liz what she said and Liz said "She asked if anyone has cream for her itchy anus" GrinGrin

I've just been rewatching Derry Girls and it's just clicked that Ann is the same actress as Clare's mum.

She's brilliant in both

BigSandyBalls2015 · 09/05/2021 18:30

Oh of course! I hadn’t noticed that!

One of our local school mums has opened a shop of Scandi nic nacs.

DH always mutters "hashtag shitshop" as we walk past.

Today’s the day! :o

HKW81 · 10/05/2021 09:04

Is the whole series being released at once or is it an episode at a time?

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 10/05/2021 11:51

@HKW81 I read an article saying "series 3 will be available in iplayer 9pm Monday 10th March" - if it's true I'm binging tonight Grin

SingToTheSky · 10/05/2021 14:18

I am going to rewatch series 2 before starting the new one. :o

BottomOfTree · 10/05/2021 18:31

Rewatched first two series over weekend - so funny. I think I like the second series even more so fingers crossed for the new season! I loved the swimming pool party. That would be my idea of a nightmare. Julia’s just not a nice person so’s so self involved but I like to think it’s because she literally has no headroom to think of anyone else. She’s quite mean to her mum too. It’s Julia’s husband though that I can’t believe - he’s such a k ob. I wonder if they’ll feature him more?

I saw pp mention a Christmas episode. Does anyone know where I can watch this as it doesn’t seem to be on iplayer.

Dellabob123 · 10/05/2021 18:48

I’m new to motherland- just binge watching series 1 now.. absolutely loving it. I couldn’t get into it first time around, but totally am now. Does anybody know where Julia’s striped shirt is from that she wore in ep1 for the birthday party? It’s fab. I’m so late to the party and it’s probably been done to death.

Arrierttyclock · 10/05/2021 19:50

I didn't really enjoy season 1 but have just finished season 2 (yesterday) and really enjoyed that season so I'm really excited for tonight!

EarringsandLipstick · 10/05/2021 19:58

Enjoying this thread. I hated Motherland initially. I expected to love it, like Catastrophe because it's a Sharon Horgan gig.

I found every character vile & unfunny. I hated Julia with a passion. Thought it was over-wrought & unbelievable ...

BUT I re-watched on Netflix recently & totally changed my mind.

I realised all the characters are meant to be monstrous in a way, Julia most of all & Liz least so. There's some genuinely moving moments with her, like the time she buys a coat that Amanda is selling, and gets loads of attention, free flowers from the guy selling them in the street, and her horrible ex makes a move. Then it all ends badly as he makes it clear it's not her, it's the coat & she flings it aside. She just looks so sad. But happily, as she's walking past the flower seller in her normal coat, he gives her free flowers again. It's all very subtle & acted brilliantly.

Julia is a nightmare. But I now appreciate her nightmarish ness.

S2 is on Netflix tomorrow I'm recording S3 on BBC as in Ireland so won't be able to watch back.

Can't wait now!

Arrierttyclock · 10/05/2021 20:53

I think I didn't like the first season because Julia was such a pushover and I just wanted her to say no but I feel like she changed in the second, she didn't give a fuck about what people thought which made it much funnier/easier to watch

CaveMum · 10/05/2021 21:06
