I think Kate and jo survive, Ryan is dead, one or both of them shot him.

I don’t think Carmichael is h, it’s too obvious and the answer is never obvious in line of duty, and certainly not two thirds of the way through. I think she’s just a red herring and a shit cop. It’s always someone we don’t expect.

MazekeenSmith · 19/04/2021 06:28

@lolacola77

Mother of god I'm floating up the Langham the wrong way but can I just check, the 3 'H' so far are Hunter, Hilton and Biggeloe? I'm watching tonight's episode again and am confused with my back pain medication...
Dot, Hilton and Biggeloe Hunter wasn't a police insider he was a crim
MazekeenSmith · 19/04/2021 06:32

@Nodal

So. I reckon the boy and girl walking along the quay towards Marcus dodgy cops boat (James Nesbitt) was Chloe and her brother, Christopher Lawrence, the boy killed in police custody. Killed because both were caught up in the child sexual abuse ring somehow and that's why he was killed and she is out for revenge. (if not her, maybe Lisa?)
Lawrence was killed in 2003/4 and Chloe is about 25 so that wouldn't fit since Lawrence was an adult when he was killed.

Why does Chloe have to be related to Lawrence to care about police racism and the murder of a black man?

GrandmasNightgown · 19/04/2021 06:32

It's normal practice when there is a crispy critter, to confirm ID by DNA (which exists on record)

The attack on the vehicle was a crime and conforming identity of victims is required by the Coroner. Or are you saying that's entirely corrupt too, or perhaps just incompetent, and the inquest did not cover the aspects it should?

Charley50 · 19/04/2021 06:45

I woke up thinking about LoD. Chloe is doing some really great detective work. I think if she isn't the 'new Kate,' a point is being made anyway. Either she won't get the professional recognition she deserves for her detective skills, in terms of promotion (glass ceiling, black female), or she will, to show positive actions against structural racism.

Chloe isn't related to Lawrence. The Force would be aware of it if she was

Charley50 · 19/04/2021 06:45

Plus why would she be related to him?

ContinuousMonotoneBeep · 19/04/2021 06:46

Well I'm glad there's a week for me to figure out what has happened!!

I do hope Nesbitt has taken some acting lessons since Bloodlands and now has more than two facial expressions. Or even better he just stays as a photo.

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2021 06:48

Chloe is a good character for exposition. There is always one who reports everything and tells Steve/ Ted etc what they have found out. I wouldn't have a clue about anything if it weren't for her.

I do think posters have to stop forging connections between her and everyone else black, and just let her be a character. The series could do with rounding her out a bit maybe. I cry about Stephen Lawrence . As she said 'who wouldn't?' - or words to that effect.

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2021 06:51

Whether H is the person behind the computer , whoever that is, it's not Carmichael. She wouldn't misspell definately.

That points strongly to someone Irish or Scottish. God, I hope they don't dredge Nesbitt up to suddenly be uber H.

Bluntness100 · 19/04/2021 06:53

Nesbitt is a relatively big name, so he’s been dredged up for a reason,

It’s not Carmichael. I’d bet money on it, she’s a red herring. It’s just too obvious. One thing we know about line of duty is it will be unexpected.

ImAncient · 19/04/2021 06:56

I’ve been dreaming of LoD all night. My blood pressure is still high this morning Grin

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 19/04/2021 07:00

Bollocks, I need to go to work!

So, until I get chance to rewatch - did Lee Banks say Hastings' name, or did he say 'your boss'? Because 'your boss' could be Osborne...

GrandmasNightgown · 19/04/2021 07:02

I thought Steve already did the drugs test which is why occupational health are chasing him? Maybe not

If Steve had taken and failed a drugs test, I don't think it would be OH that were trying to reach him, or that it would be just by email.

Maybe it is just a catch up, and he's ducking it because he's busy and can't be bovvered with that department. And he doesn't seem to be in particular pain right now.

I think he said boss.
ContinuousMonotoneBeep · 19/04/2021 07:02

Well apart from Tommy Hunter - that was obvious to the point we decided it wouldn't be that!!

Agree with Chloe. She doesn't need to be related to anyone. (Well anyone one mentioned in LoD Obviously she needs to be related to someone to exist!!) She can just be a very good detective and one that finds thd idea of a dying man being mocked distressing.

GlassBoxSpectacular · 19/04/2021 07:02

Not sure if it’s already been mentioned as I speeded through the thread to catch up last night, but in the last season, when Ted & co were on the messenger app taking to the Big Bad, wasn’t it mentioned by the AC-12 tech bods that the IP address originated in Spain?

Why does definetely point to a Scottish or Irish person?

He said your boss. Steve than asked if it was Hasting and Lee said that he came in so confirmed it was Hastings

Quoting myself to add: which is where all the jokes about Nige retiring to Spain emerged from (even though I think the garden we see him mowing looks more English than Spanish).

Still, it seems the ‘retired to Spain’ but was right, just the character was wrong.

Can't recall, but if they are accessing though the dark web it doesn't matter where the ip is they could be based anywhere.
MazekeenSmith · 19/04/2021 07:05

Because they are both black and she's upset by police racism and the murder of a black man Hmm
passwordnotsecure · 19/04/2021 07:05

did anyone get the subtitles to the bit about the DNA? I missed exactly what was said?

Yes, they said at the time that it could have been rerouted. But rather coincidental that a name connected to lots of prior shenanigans has now been discovered to have relocated to Spain.

Ulysses · 19/04/2021 07:11

I'm really glad I started watching from the start this week to get the back story about Tommy Hunter, Osbourne and Fairbanks. There was so many layers this episode.

Agree with the PP about AMM, she plays Carmichael too much like a pantomime villain. I think there's maybe a bit too many Tedisms getting thrown in to, it's becoming a bit of a parody.

I think Jo shoots Ryan. Not sure why there are two shots though. Kate might have went for his leg so that he was still able to provide an account.

It really is gripping tv. I love when people zoom in to the diagrams and descriptions on the wall. Jo is Hunter daughter and niece - I wonder if she knows this (the daughter part)?

Chloe is a good egg full stop. There's no need for her to have associations with Tony Gates or Christopher Lawrence to want her to do a good job. I thought her sorrow at Lawrence and the actions of the police officers at the time completely understandable. Arnott is enraged by Fairbanks, doesn't mean that he needed to be abused himself to justify it.

GlassBoxSpectacular · 19/04/2021 07:12

Because they are both black and she's upset by police racism and the murder of a black man

Chloe is seemingly Tony Gates’s daughter, Gail Vella’s daughter, and now also a relative of Lawrence Christopher.

Because she’s black and distressed by the widespread cover-up of institutionalised racism Hmm
