I've never not enjoyed a series of LoD, but felt that S5 lacked a little 'oomph', despite the stellar cast. This one is right back on heart-pounding form imo!

putcarpetdown · 18/04/2021 22:17

I reckon Kate lives - we would have seen it if she’d died. There’s no shock value in making us wait a week.

Jo shot Ryan?

Overall not a great episode tonight though. Scene after scene of people just exchanging information at the beginning.

And the ‘you do what you can in the time you have left’ scene was just so written. Urgh.

AC12theletterofthelaw · 18/04/2021 22:17

@WitnessNotSuspect

I reckon Jo shot Ryan.
Me too.
MotherOfGodWeeFella · 18/04/2021 22:17

Ted imitated the misspelling of definitely when he was impersonating whoever in the OCG was giving the orders. It's not bloody Ted who is bent fella!

I wouldn't be surprised if Jo had killed herself tbh.

To the pp who asked, Carmichael gave Steve his phone back after she had found out who he was speaking to.

NeedToKnow101 · 18/04/2021 22:17

@peachgreen Thanks

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 18/04/2021 22:17

I need to listen again but I thought it was said that Sam Davidson is Jo's mum (in the picture she threw the glass at) and Tommy's sister

Therefore Jo is Tommy Hunters niece and his son would be her cousin.

That makes sense with the DOBs that he isn't old enough to be her dad but could be her uncle if Sam is older than Tommy

TheSpottedZebra · 18/04/2021 22:18

The media seems to be saying that Hunter is Jo's brother, not father.
And

devildeepbluesea · 18/04/2021 22:18

Carmichael is Osborne's bitch. Osborne must be H.

I'll be oddly gutted if Ryan dies, he's a brilliant baddie.

PeskyRooksRGT · 18/04/2021 22:19

@peachgreen

I reckon Jo shot Ryan and so did Kate.
Yeah I was just about to say that mate!
PomLikeTheBattle · 18/04/2021 22:19

So sorry for your loss @peachgreen

Ilovecrumpets · 18/04/2021 22:19

Yes @EeeByeGummieBear. It actually felt a little uncomfortable to me. I assume/hope they had maybe spoken to both families given they merged the name

ceeveebeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 18/04/2021 22:21

The only time I’ve heard zygosity in real life is about types of twins, monozygotic (identical) or dizygotic (fraternal). So I think the close zygosity means brother and sister?

HopeClearwater · 18/04/2021 22:21

@devildeepbluesea They cast well when they found him as a child actor, didn’t they. Hope he goes on to great things.

RatintheCat · 18/04/2021 22:22
@devildeepbluesea They cast well when they found him as a child actor, didn’t they. Hope he goes on to great things.
I had said the same to DH. He's great and what are the chances of discovering him at that age!

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 18/04/2021 22:22

Holy cow. Although a bit lame having a hidden double shot.

Help me confirm these things:

Homozygotic - that basically means twins does it? Although don't think that would work with non-identical twins, which is what Jo and Tommy would have to be.

Hastings and Corbett - did Hastings give Corbett away when he went 'undercover' in that depot place or something? Is he feeling guilty for essentially getting John killed or did he do it deliberately?

Carmichael- I agree there's a real Q over whether she's a complete bitch, or bent. It feels like she's enjoying stymieing everything Hastings has in place.

The definately misspelling is still there! I need reminding.

WitnessNotSuspect · 18/04/2021 22:22

@TheSpottedZebra

Poor, Bloodlands was shit. Save your 4 hours and rewatch some LoD.
Seconded
AledsiPad · 18/04/2021 22:23

Guys... did you hear what Ted said when they started to go and get Kate?

“That’s my officer...”

ChocBeforeCock · 18/04/2021 22:23

Come on then @GlassBoxSpectacular let’s hear the failed theory Grin

@peachgreen Flowers

To be fair the OCG could have taken Jo and Ryan our because they found out about the surveillance and decided it would be too messy - they’d be arrested for trying to kill an officer and they know too much.

Also interesting that Ryan didn’t know about the surveillance. Carmichael did, obviously, because she called it off. I’m just pondering that and what it could mean.

I think it’s too obvious for Carmichael to be H. I suspect Osbourne is, or at least he is bent, and Carmichael is just an ambitious brown noser. I actually have her marked to come good in the end, when she realises Osbourne was supposedly complicit in covering up a racist murder. At the moment she is very establishment, but when she realises the establishment is corrupt, she will bust some balls on the side of the angels!

Place marking for next week.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 18/04/2021 22:24

Carmichael is concerned only with advancing her own career and she's been fed the line that Ted is incompetent.

mynameiscalypso · 18/04/2021 22:24

@LagganBubble

Apologies if this has been asked already- when Steve revealed that Tommy Hunter was related to Jo, was there something about the genetic link was very close- I took that to mean that Jo could be the result of an incestuous relationship between Tommy & his sister possibly? Am I overthinking??
I've seen that online (in den of geek's review of the episode). I totally missed it because I was so focussed on the name!
IcedPurple · 18/04/2021 22:24

@EsmaCannonball

One of the problems I have with this series is that it's centred on people we never got to know. We've never met Gail Vela, we've never met the guy who died in custody, we've never met this James Nesbitt ex-copper. It's hard to get invested in characters you don't know.

Jo's been billed as a complex character but she just comes across as completely blank. Watching her sit in front of that laptop just isn't as compelling as watching the liked of Tony Gates and Lindsay Denton get totally embroiled in the drama.

I'm enjoying this series but I agree with all of these points. Jo is quite a dull character, not helped by Kelly MacDonald's one-note acting it has to be said.
tigger1001 · 18/04/2021 22:24

@AledsiPad

Yes I did
ImAncient · 18/04/2021 22:24

Carmichael is a brilliant character. I think AMM must have great fun playing her. I agree with a pp who mentioned Professor Umbridge also played with such relish.

I can’t decide if she’s H or part of the OCG or just a meanie!
