Stars Emily Watson and Denise Gough.

Cant say I know much about it, but hopefully it will be better than Intruder.

Our tv screen had seized up !

Anyone else finding it a hard watch? Her breakdown is just heartbreaking.
Very. The bathroom scene was awful.

Brilliantly acted.

Lovemusic33 · 14/04/2021 21:50

I have found it good to watch and easy to follow, as someone who works in mental health and specifically with people with psychosis some bits are more accurate than others, I do think they should have done more research because as said above “it’s very unlikely she would be allowed to be alone with someone who’s potentially dangerous” though it’s not totally impossible. The way they handled the fire though was totally wrong, I’m sure they have protocol for handling a fire in a secure unit for potentially dangerous people. No way would she have been just left alone outside.

I honestly don't care if it's realistic. Dramas aren't supposed to be real life!
kerkyra · 14/04/2021 22:01

My TV seized up too, think I've missed a good five minutes of the end.

the80sweregreat · 14/04/2021 22:02

It was an ITV glitch !

Honeyroar · 14/04/2021 22:02

IPlayer to watch the end?

ForgedInFire · 14/04/2021 22:06

I didnt think I was that into it but I bawled my eyes out when they showed what happened to Abigail, even though we knew mostly what was coming

eatsleepread · 14/04/2021 22:19

Crikey, that was cheery! Wink

I just found her even more annoying than in the previous 2 episodes.
OhWhyNot · 14/04/2021 22:22

I found there were too many holes and yes lack of research was annoying

Forensic mental health is always about team work. Even the responsible clinician will report to other members of the team so you have a full picture for what is going on with the patient. She would have a huge number of people working with her. Endless meetings and discussions. It could have been really interesting how she split and manipulated the team (it happens)

Still bothered about the old cars Confused

Audreyhelp · 14/04/2021 22:28

Can anyone please tell me The name of the song that kept playing

Honeyroar · 14/04/2021 22:32

It’s called The End of the World, but don’t know who sang it.

runwithme · 14/04/2021 22:35

Sonia did a version but I don't think it was hers they were playing!

Audreyhelp · 14/04/2021 22:36

Ah thanks honey roar could t get it out of my head . Got it on Alexa now .

Clawdy · 14/04/2021 22:37

Skeeter Davis sang it back in the sixties.

MissBarbary · 14/04/2021 22:37

It's very irritating too.
SapphosRock · 14/04/2021 22:42

I found the Abigail scene really harrowing. Wish there had been a warning.

augustusglupe · 14/04/2021 22:56

Absolutely brilliant acting!! Best thing I've seen in ages.

ForgedInFire · 14/04/2021 23:06

I thought it was interesting they used "The End of the World" because it was also featured in Girl, Interrupted (another movie set in a psychiatric hospital) and Connie's physical appearance reminded me a bit of Angelina Jolie in that movie.

mermaidsariel · 14/04/2021 23:10

I switched it off halfway through the second episode. I found it harrowing, cliched and stereotypical. I just didn’t care about the characters. I forced myself to watch it tonight as a friend had raved about it. It improved a bit but overall I found it depressing and formulaic.

Fluffmonkey82 · 14/04/2021 23:19

Think they did at the start but yeah they should have issued another warning after the last ad break I found it distressing too but just tried to remind myself I was watching a programme..
Xmasbaby11 · 14/04/2021 23:28

I thought it was really powerful. Yes there were plotholes and it was not realistic, but I think it touched on some real problems with people with MH issues falling through the cracks, even if they seem to have family support. What Connie went through looked terrifying. I felt touched by Emma's story as well - she must have felt incredible guilt and sadness to have lost her daughter that way. I think the two strong leads made a massive difference to me and made me overlook the implausibility, whereas the acting in Intruder was so poor, it ruined the whole effect.

Wingedharpy · 14/04/2021 23:39

I have to say they nearly lost me when the Doc started to climb the tree to encourage Connie down, then sitting on a bench singing to her BUT, it pulled it back later and the what happened to Abigail scene, made me gasp.
Heartbreakingly sad.
Glad it had a relatively happy ending.
I can imagine the book being more nuanced and subtle but it was watchable.

Connie actress was excellent IMHO.

MaddieElla · 14/04/2021 23:41

I agree I nearly switched off at the tree scene but I'm glad I didn't.

Acting was fantastic from Connie's character. Harrowing. A horrible story of being failed by her family and he doctor.
